Well I've never played it but have you thought of buying a strategy guide? Or maybe you could try gamefaqs.com they might have a boss faq or a walkthrough that'll explain it...sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I've beaten that game. What exactly are you having a problem with? And which form?

i am having a problem with the second (i think) form, the one with the blue bubbles rising from the earth and the green "bombs" being sent in the characters direction... i just can't manage to inflict damage on it!!! and it's getting to be REEEALLLYY annoying

So you are in the shadow form right??? And your arm shoots firebirds??? I'm sorry it's been a long time... I think while the face appears on the surface you just need to wack at it...it'll flash when it recieves damage.

You can pretty much prolong the battle for as long as it takes to figure out the FBs weakness by using Shadow's liquid form. Simply go into invincible mode until her shots clear out, then fire off a few blasts at her face. There might be some other trigger, can't quite remember.

Damn good game, Zelda quality. I've got an Illusion of Gaia T shirt.

Block the mini-lasers, destroy the bubbles, and dodge the big blast. Then when you get a chance, go to town on Dark Gaia with the firebirds. That was basically my strategy.

I had to cheese the slide invincibilty to beat Solid Arm, though. Very tough.

Ha ha ha. I just realized I had the t-shirt too. It came with the game tongue.gif. I can't say I thought the game was zelda quality tho. I played through it like 3 times and I was always pissed at myself for doing it.

Was there ever an English cart of this game? I didn't think there was, but guessing from what ya'll are saying, there is! Anyways, I've played the ROM, (didn't get too far, about to the place after you go to that ancient colony thingy, I didn't even get his shadow form yet)

Yes, there is an English cartridge of the game. I want to say that it was out in 1993, but I have no idea if that's actually right, or if I just made it up.

Came out in '94 actually, right around the time FF3/6j was released. I remember that because it's on the cover of one of the Nintendo Powers that also contained some of their FF3 coverage.

By the way, the game was created by an English company. That's why the sequel, Terranigma, got a European release but never made it over to the States.

If you collect all of the red jewels, you are eventually granted access to a "secret" dungeon at the end of the game. That's where you find the secret boss, who is, in my opinion, the most difficult boss in the game. I can't beat him.

You'll have to start a new game to find all the red crystals. The secret boss is tough cause your stuck playing him as the kid with the flute. The story addition is pathetic, but apparently the boss is from the previous game. I'd avice you to skip it.

There was not a shirt with the game in the American SNES version, not that I wanted one.

I bought it at Toys R' Us when it first came out, and it came with a shirt. I'm certain of this now that I think about it.

I wonder if that was a store promotion, I can remember coming across copies of the game with the t shirt attached, but my copy didn't come with one.

I found my t shirt online a couple months ago while I was searching for Secret of Mana and old school FF apparel. Funny how I came up with nothing searching for those relatively well known games except for a shirt from this obscure action rpg.

Who would want the shirt? I'll add the following information about it to anyone who for some reason adores Illusion of Gaia and would actually want the shirt: It smells. Yes that's right, the shirt actually smells..It was some really bad material it was made out of, wasn't comfortable at all. I didn't wear it ever.

Incidentally, if someone even after hearing this wants an apparently rare, unworn Illusion of Gaia shirt, I'll sell it to ya if I can scrounge it up tongue.gif .

I know you wrote this post like 5 years ago! But I joined this website just so I could try to get that shirt. I've been searching for it for years. Illusions of Gaia was one of my favorite games! If you still have that search I'll gladly buy it from you (try to at least..I'm poor).

I hate to break it to you, but I don't think The Ancient visits CoN anymore. And I can't say this for sure, but I don't think any of us has his contact info, either.

...Also, isn't it Illusion of Gaia? Good game, that.

Is that the same Misato who recently joined the TerraEarth forum? biggrin.gif

What an odd, wonderful little game... I still have my IoG shirt somewhere, but it's in shabby shape. I actually wore mine (even though it's a large; I'd like to know how many of the people who bought that game were the right size for that thing).

It is definitely Illusion of Gaia! I totally mispelled that, and it's because I played it when I was very very young and my little brother and I always called it Illusions of Gay-a haha and it still slips sometimes. I can't help it haha.

Anyways, amazing game. My favorite game of all time. Epic plot...great great story.

Man...I'm dying to get ahold of one of those shirts. I tried e-mailing the Ancient...but haven't heard back...so that's probably the end of that.

And yes, I recently joined the Terra Earth forums. I've been on that website countless times and just recently found out it had forums. And ... wub.gif I love it!

Illusion of Gaia is still one of the best adventure games out there. In fact, all of the Soul Blazer trilogy count under that category. I finally acquired legit cartridges of all three of them and I could not be happier.

For the record, there does exist a "sequel" to Illusion of Gaia, although none of the characters or locations return. Officially, Terranigma is the sequel to it, but I don't really see it. All three of the trilogy have the same basic plot and such, but to call them sequels is a bit erroneous I think.

Terranigma was a great one too. But I don't know IOG will probably always be my favorite because it was one of the few games me and my brother had and we played the hell out of it smile.gif Great times...man why am I old now tongue.gif NO FUN!

People sometimes debate over how to characterise the relationship between Soul Blazer, IoG, Terranigma, and other games from the same developer, since they do have similar themes. Personally, I'm content to say they have similar themes and leave it at that. Anything beyond that is fan speculation.

And IoG is my favorite too. wub.gif

Ah, Illusion of Gaia... My first jump into RPGs without a friend. I played FFIV and VI prior to IOG but always with my nerdy friend. IOG was the game that I branched out on my own. I was 10 or 11. I also had the shirt. Wish I would've kept it.

I know it's been a few months, but I stumbled across this forum. I've just listed a Gaia shirt for auction. Link is here:

We don't usually allow a person's first post to be advertising. But, since the people who wanted the shirt haven't visited here in months, hey, maybe it will bring them back. Whatevs. -R51

I can help you with the final boss

The first form is when the boss opens its mouth and you shoot a firebird at the mouth.

When it opens its mouth it also shoots out some stuff into the air and blue energy rains down on you and you have to avoid it.

Second form you have to shoot the boss when its mouth is open again but avoid its laser attack

Also:There are blue bubbles floating around and its arms extend into some sort of energy balls that fly towards you which can be avoided if you turn into liquid form.

Just equip the item that allows you to turn into liquid and keep turning into liquid when the 2 energy balls go near you.

For the special boss from the mansion:

You have to go to the middle upper area and not go too near or you will be moved forward into solid arm and get killed.

You have to attack from a distance constantly and keep edging forward an inch sometimes so you have just enough distance to hit and not go forward and run into the boss and die.

BTW!! great game.

In fact one of my favorite games ever made.
