I'm not trying to say this game is racist or anything, but I noticed the other day that just about every human character (sans Kefka) that isn't an NPC sprite has dark skin. I mean Vargas, Dadaluma, those Brawlers, and the Gigas monsters all have the same dark skin color. Now I'm not sure if Brawlers and Gigas are 'human', but they look like it and you do fight brawlers with dadaluma and Gigas in Zozo... which is a town. Idk why square would do this or if it was even intentional, but it does seem weird to me.

What about Seraphrim, Barb-e, Siren, Starlet and Goddess? Don't they all have fair skin? I believe so actually. Although come to think of it, those are all females. Hmm, what an odd trend...
Edit Oh and Ramuh, he's a humanish guy, even if he does have a bit of a puny head and barely any skin showing. This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 19th April 2010 16:34 -------------------- |

Yeah, Ramuh does have white skin, as well as Kefka (clearly). Also, Ifrit has the same dark skin color as Maduin and the other espers/enemies I mentioned earlier... My guess is Amano designed them this way?

The game's most honorable and courageous character--Leo--also has dark skin, although his sprite is quite a bit lighter than his profile pic.

Yeah, about Leo.... his face seems to be multicolored, could just be some weird lighting though.

Always found it strange on FF6 how they make you fight and defeat Dadaluma. And they put Dadaluma in the city of liars. ( ZOZO ) mean isn't The Dadaluma a important person and Square makes you fight/ defeat him and make him out to be a liar ?? -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! Currently looking forward to Don't Know. |

This has come up before, but I'm too lazy to research. This can be attributed to what is either a Japanese or Chinese art style often using porcelain figures.
It is also important to note that the artist and every other person that worked on the game is dark-skinned. Not to say that you're not right, but that would mean that they are being racist against themselves. -------------------- |

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 6th May 2010 16:30) Wait, since when did east Asians count as dark-skinned? Well, I would concede that point, if Japanese people do not count as East Asians. Not to say that they are completely dark-skinned, but I'm just saying that without the picture's flash his skin is rather dark. Yeah, I've seen really fair-skinned Japanese people and some pretty dark ones. Kind of interesting how it can vary like that.

Because Final Fantasy VI was based in the 19th century, so slavery was still going on.

Quote (Anh @ 11th July 2010 11:38) Because Final Fantasy VI was based in the 19th century, so slavery was still going on. Well, slavery continues today. But most nations abolished slavery much earlier than the US, early in the 19th century. -------------------- |
