Sorry if this is in the wrong place I didn't know if it should go in the general Square Enix games section but...

Should I trade a game I don't like and a game I heard was good (Uncharted Drake's Fortune) that I own but never got a chance to play to get Final Fantasy XIII?

Game stop has it for $20.00 if you trade in select games for Wii,PS3 and 360 and my game I don't like is a select game and so is Uncharted so...

Should I make the trade? I don't have any other Wii or PS3 games I want to let go of and I don't own a 360.

Well, of course it's your decision. I almost never trade games, because they give you peanuts for them. And Uncharted 1 is a pretty good henchman-shooting and ruins-exploring game, and the sequel is the bee's knees.

I'd just wait it out. Gamestop's not going to run out of FF XIII, and you could always play other games in the meantime.

I would at least wait for the price to drop. That's what I'm doing.

This what you should do, of course is up to you to decide, but I would first finish Uncharted 1 which is one of the best games of the last decade, then I would take those two games (the one you don't like and Uncharted) and do the two game trade to get Final Fantasy 13.

Reasons to get Final Fantasy 13:

1. The game fools you at first with it's straight forward approach and linear story, but once you beat the final boss and reload the game to the final save the game opens up to a massive sidequest hunt and weapon upgrade experimentation.

2. The battle system was made so you could enjoy watching a good fight and not miss the action while browsing menus after menus. In my opinion I welcomed the change for once. Why? Each Final Fantasy has always put emphasis on making decision after decision come battle time. This time I just press a button and watch my team perform moves that they have learned via crystarium, the game's ability and attribute learning system.

3. The graphics are once again over the top. I have not experienced no slow downs what so ever even though every living thing at the battle screen is always doing something. Everything from the menus to the amazing cut scenes looks brutal.

4. Don't let yourself be fooled by haters who copy what other haters are saying... "Is not like the old Final Fantasies blah blah poop"... The game is not THAT great, but it IS a great game. If you enjoy playing older FF's, then go to PSN and download the PSone classics or just get a Nintendo DS and play the Re Re Re makes of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras.

In your position I'd definitely go with either renting or waiting until the game drops below £/$20. From what I gather, the game has half-decent gameplay and a good end-game, but the majority of the story and characters are pants. My evaluation therefore is that this game is worth about £20 or less, not £50 or whatever obscene amount they're asking. If you can somehow barter the shop into taking £20 worth of games you don't want then that seems fair.

Reasons to get Final Fantasy 13:

On the contrary, there are reasons NOT to get it, or, at least, to wait until it's cheaper if you so desire. The very reasons you have given are in fact by and large the very reasons one should wait or decline to buy it right away, or are indeed not even a reason at all in this day and age. Now, yes, I have ragged on this game a lot, but for once in my life, it's all justified, and I can even see in some cases why others like the very things I don't.

Since one must work through a poor start game to reach the moment where things get better, I remain puzzled as to why this is supposed to be a selling point to convince the people who can't tolerate the first twenty hours as it is. Getting good later is fine if there's something to really draw you in. FF13's mileage seems to be very variable in that respect, some people seem to love it when just as many seem to hate it.

Ask yourself if this is the kind of game you wish to play. Does a long, slow start truly appeal to you?

Some people liked the choices and flexibility. This simplified no-brainer approach you describe is a major turnoff. Yes, there is the Paradigm system it seems but again, that comes into play a long time after you're already bored of the characters and linear gameplay, and it has its work cut out to convince you it's any good.

Did you like choices? Did you not? Did you want speed? Did you want to be in full control?

Looking good doesn't make it amazing. This is hardly an argument in the first place. Everything these days looks impressive.

Don't let yourself be fooled by those with poor defences for the game's very real issues either. Both fan haters and fan boys in this case have a point and a counterpoint every time and thus far, the only real way to make the choice is to decide what you want out of the game.

Do you want a linear game that might not draw you in for the first twenty hours? Do you want to be learning the battle system until halfway in? Do you want to deal with characters you might hate with a vengeance? Do you want to have a lack of choices and freedom for the vast majority of gameplay? Do you want to deal with a story you may find dull and uninspiring for over thirty hours?

I certainly don't feel it's worth it new, or even traded in. Surely the fact practically everything raised in defence is at the same time the exact flaw with the game in the eyes of others and that every apparent flaw is then raised as a defence by others shows that this game is highly polarising. Indeed, when reading the reviews and views of the game, all you can do is decide on each of the points. Is it a flaw to you, is it a plus point. Read both positive and negative outlooks. Seek the middle ground. Decide which views seem to fit what you want from the game.

Alternatively, you have the resources to do so, try it first. You might be surprised. You might be disgusted. But by all means, wait. It's not worth trading in any game for it, it's not worth paying good money for it, because if you really hate it, you've lost out, and even if you do like it, it's got no reason to replay and you'll have given up another game you could have played too in Uncharted.

Therefore, I think that this game should keep you waiting. To get it, that is. We've all covered how long it takes to apparently start for real...

I really enjoyed a lot about this game. The characters I felt were very well developed, and the fighting was always interesting. I've never actually had to worry about loosing to a normal enemy before, but I found this happening several times in FFXIII. The game is definitely more linear than what I had hoped (I like FFX linear-ness, but anything in excess can be tiring), but there is definitely the motivation in plot and gameplay to finish the game.

I'm not much for trading in games, but if you've gotten your share out of Uncharted, then I'd go for it. If you aren't ready to part with it, on the other hand, I'd wait. It's definitely a good game, but waiting another month or two for it to come down in price won't hurt if you have other things to do.
