It is very difficult for me to make a choice. Final Fantasy 7 was the one that made me an RPG fan, Final Fantasy 4 was the one that made love old school RPGs, and Final Fantasy 10 showed me how beautiful games can be.

I'm going with Final Fantasy 7 because I've played it more than 10 times, yes I know is too much, but I can play through it in a week, and at least once a year I have to go back to the game that's most nostalgic to me.

Knights of the Round is simply the greatest attack I have ever seen in a game! Is called 'Ultimate End' for crying out loud.

This poll is... weirdly specific. It's basically a "favorite FF" poll that is parsed down to five games, because of a particular detail. You could argue that each of those five games set the standard and established a tone for its respective era, but I hardly think it's worth arguing about. I'm starting to think that my post here wasn't even worth writing.

But hell, I'll vote Final Fantasy IV, because it was the first RPG I ever played. It's not my favorite FF game, but it's probably the one I've played the most, since I've played almost every version.

Is 'weirdly specific' because I'm almost certain there is already a poll with all the Final Fantasy games in it. I post it this because I'm curious to see what FF fans feel or think about this Final Fantasies in specific.

Just for the record, my favorite Final Fantasy is FF VI, closely followed by FF IX. I like FF IV, but I played it so many years after it was released that I really wasn't caught on it's mystique or lore, whatever.

I think I see what you're getting at here. There's something different about getting a new console and then playing the first FF for it, like the jump from 2D to 3D, so this selection can be distinguished by experiences. I voted FFVII because it was my first ever game for a console and still probably my top game for funny anecdotes and memories.

It's interesting that all these first games for consoles were ultimately surpassed by the last game for the console, IMO anyway. I prefer VI to IV, IX to VII, and XII to X. And already I prefer FFXIV to XIII because I don't have to watch adverts for it whenever I switch on the TV.

Hm...I'm certainly no VII-hater (Or I-hater...or man, even X-hater anymore) but it'll have to be IV for me. Not the first RPG I played (I think that would be I, actually) but the first I really understood and completely, totally loved. All three of the SNES games are among the best games ever made, in my opinion, and it all started with IV. And yeah, that first moment of the Red Wings flying over the land was HUGE to me the first time I saw it...even though I had already played a few SNES games, it looked absolutely gorgeous.

And don't worry about beating VII 10 times. In all honesty, I'm pretty sure I've beaten VI like 40 times.

FF7 is the most important of those games mentioned, and it is probably the best game on that list. The three top tier FF games are really IV, VI, and VII. And out of FFIV and FFVII, I personally think that VII is better. There are a lot of haters out there for VII, because it's popular, but no one can deny that it's a really great game.

I had to go Final Fantasy VII but I think I'm kind of biased. I just remember opening it up and being amazed at the look of everything. It was a gorgeous game & like nothing else I had seen video game wise.
