Also, thoughts on keeping these two human until the -10WB timeline?

How exactly do they change from humans into these monsters?

Honestly, I was half expecting everyone to answer "Yes Rex, we're lazy!" and in response I was gonna have to shut down this thread and do all the work myself...

I thought I told you, but I can't really do the technical stuff. I could learn, but I could mostly do is the storytelling aspects as we have been doing, and do the script/dialogue. That's the part I am able to do.

I think more backstory on Kefka should definately be included in the prequel. I've always wanted to know more about him than ''He's an Imperial experiment gone wrong'' ya know?

DelNorte,

Def in agreement on the Duncan sprites, looks good to me.

Glad I could help with the Ultros Sprite

A thought, with the RM2003 engine how many different tilesets can we incorporate into our game, any idea if we can expand it to be able to use all the ff6 tilesets? And are you able to send me your tilesets you have for RM2003 so I can see what I can help with?

Blitz,

Any ideas on the cause for their transformation? I'm thinking that maybe their change is incurred by the 3 statues located in the Cave near Thamasa? There's no mention of what THESE (video link) statues would do if moved... or maybe even if the letters on the backs of the statues were read? Thoughts? I realise Ultros doesnt appear to recognize these statues in this scene however maybe he lost his memory? And Ziegfried's mentioned here, what do we want to do with this character?

As for picking up some of the artwork, or RM2003 tech work, the artwork's pretty simple (Although DelNorte looks to be an artiste when it comes to ff6ish sprites though, bravo, I tip my cap...) Everything else is colour adjustments, allotments into hexidecimal tiles (if anyone doesnt know what this means or thinks I'm talking Reboot villains that means base 16 or for it's gaming application "16-bit", for this particular reference, each of the tiles are 16 pixel by 16 pixel) and then placing the tiles into sets and eventually using those sets to create maps in RM2003.

DelNorte and I are getting our feet wet on RM2003 right now (sounds like he's refreshing himself though), if you want to you can DL it and start fooling around as well.

Basically, tell us what you want to do and we'll help you get started on doing it!

I'd also like to get your opinion on this Chupon thing, I'm really perplexed over which one I like better.

I've never really thought about those before.

#1: Who made those statues? Obviously someone who knew about the Three Goddesses being turned into statues. But if it was the people of Thamasa, why doesn't Strago know about their existence. He knows of the Goddesses, but appears surpised about seeing them.

#2: Why would Ultros be there in those mountains? If the statues are secret, then how does he know to look there for them to steal? And if he knows to look there, does he know about what those statues represent?

#3: Who is Seigfried?

I think answering these questions can really get us further on many storylines.

#1:

Okay, if we are using my concept of the Blitz, a warrior group that helps hide the Espers, saves the survivors of WotM and then builds Vector, then they could have known about these copies of the statues. But, they do state that these statues also have power behind them. So, maybe it goes like this:

After the War of the Magi, the Espers hide the Three Goddesses in the Esper World, the Mage Warriors go to Thamasa, and the remaing people on the southern continent create Vector. The Blitz, who are great survivors, aid in all of these things, so that ties things together and can lead to the famed Magic Revival.

And I know you're going to hate this, but this could lead to Kefka originally being from Thamasa. His family leaves and becomes part of Vector's leadership. When his father leaves him (I'm thinking sort of like the Batman 2 story with the Penguin. They are disgraced by him, perhaps he's ugly or something, and that could explain the make-up later). Then, his Palazzo name is revealed to him, and his attitude begins to change. (He becomes like his father, except, he is armed with the secrets that the Blitz have given him).

The Blitz help the Mage Warriors remain hidden, but they also help themselves. The Golden statues (the copies) are basically charmed, and this leads to...

#2:

Ultros (maybe a different name before changing), goes into the mountain, and is transformed after he tries to take the G. Statues. He loses his memory, but is somehow connected to that place. So he goes there and stays. Now as to why he is there in the first place, that leads to...

#3:

I have tried to think of ways to connect some people in the game together, to add some more for us to work with.

There is this line, I believe in the SNES version, from and NPC in Figaro's prison. He basically says, "Edgar knows what the real threat is..."

I have always wondered about that. I've never believed that it meant Kefka or the Empire (bc Fig. and the Empire are allies at this time, and they're not going to tell the criminals their secret).

I've envisioned this massive band of criminals, led by Siegfried, that includes most of the main thief-like villains in the game: Clyde, Baram, Locke, Ultros, Chupon, and Sieg. as the leader. But this group falls apart:

Clyde becomes Shadow,
Baram dies,
Locke joins the Returners,
and Ultros and Chupon become... Ultros and Chupon.

But the band actually survives into the original game, with Sieg. still in charge, and Lonewolf as second-in-command.

That's all for now, but I'll come back and edit.

Replying from work so please bear with me here, writing in 3 words at a time and authoring this message over a span of 5 hours...

Edit
AND, came back after work to make sure I didnt shove my foot in my mouth...

#1, I thought that in the video they say that the Espers built these statues...I went back and checked and it sounds like the Espers in fact did build these statues as a hommage to the real Stone Goddesses and imbued them with magic, maybe to seal the cave from view? It also sounds like Strago DID know OF the statues but he didnt know they were THERE...

And you're right, I do hate the idea of Kefka having supplementary powers embedded in his geneology due to Thamasa being his birthplace, I'm also kinda not liking him being trained in the art of the Blitz (unless he learns these skills WAY after his magitek injection).... Although pumping up his abilities earlier in the game might seem like it'd benefit the game I STRONGLY feel that it'd REALLY hurt the plot and the manner in which this game will mesh into FF6. Personally, I'm all for more Kefka and having his storyline intertwine into everyone elses, just as long as it serves the final purpose of being a viable explanation for his becoming the crazed lunatic we all know and love.

#2, I think that Ultros' connection with the statues should be that he tried to steal them, got transformed, lost his memory (up until a little before he discovered the location of the statues) and after being transformed tries to continue his search for the statues. I'm not certain about the name change though, lets leave this for now, it might add or detract from the story but in the end it's the smallest of details, we can easily just make this adjustment and see what we thing once everything else is said and done.

#3, The band of thieves seems like a pretty cool notion, this may move Ultros and Chupon into the -10WB timeframe rather than -30WB, makes no HUGE difference (i think?). I think I'd be FOR the mentioned group except Locke, I was playing with the idea of him being Baram's son... thoughts?? And this also would throw off the FF6 storyline since there's no Locke-Ultros interaction supplementing this backstory...which would leave me needing an explanation... How does Ultros remember Ziegfried but NOT Locke?

Anyways, going into a meeting, will check back tonight...

and DID!

blink.gif This is what happens when I play too much Dissidia. Sorry for not keeping up with the topic, that game is much more addictive than I thought.

The sprites are looking awesome. Bravo Del Norte.

So let's see...

Please don't make Chupon female, that would ruin the whole Mr.Chupon phrase (besides the creepy factor). Oh and, Ultros mentions he is “octopus royalty”, how did that happen if he was human before? Where are the other octopi?

Still not convinced about the Kefka in Thamasa thing. I think someone at Gamefaqs mentioned Albrook was hinted in the creation materials.

The band of thieves sounds pretty good. I believe Siegfried and Ziegfried are different characters. We could use the real one or the fake. And I don't quite remember, does Locke encounters one of the two at some point? There's the Phantom Train, the cave to Figaro and the Colosseum, which is optional.

Remember in the Opera House, Ultros treats Locke as if he had meet him before, but at that point he had only encountered Terra, Edgar and Sabin. Terra went esper-crazy and the twins are optional for that arc. It is an opportunity to fill a plot-hole.

Aaaah... Mr.Chupon!!! I forgot!!!

yes, it's gotta be the guy then...

For those of you looking for a frame of reference to the Opera House Scene (link) ...

I can see now how maybe Ultros does know Locke but Locke doesnt know Ultros... Locke Thief Squad addition rejection officially redacted... it all makes sense now... he'd have to be some kind of low level thug in the gang... for sure.

As for the "Octopus royalty" comment, Ultros is known for sarcasm and patronizing dialogue... who's to say that this (of all the exaggerated comments) is to be taken seriously?

Now onto (S/Z)iegfried... Ultros mentions Z during the statue talk, and Z was the one from the Ghost Train Robbery (link) , and apparently the imposter for the true S, since obviously the weight of someone being their true self being solely based in his being more hardcore and not dying in the same Sr.Behemoth type fashion... also Z (as in Zebras) is a fake letter... those are horses with paint on them!!!

Anyways,

Enjoy yourselves!

Okay, fine, I'll leave the Thamasa thing alone. You guys win, though a majority doesn't always mean that choice is right. Maybe it doesn't work.

But anyways, just a notion, but we need to figure out what Kefka's father does. What makes him give up Kefka. Extramarital affair? Political scandal. We have to figure out how or if he learns of his lineage.

As for the Blitz training him, not really training. The Blitz at the time of the 30WB story are very influencial in Vector's politics/gov't. I see them as helping anyone rise to power. I don't know, it could rather be Gestahl.

And it doesn't matter who made them. My reasoning was to attempt to reveal how Ultros and Chupon are transformed.

And I agree about not making Chupon a female. I get the women's lib, really do, but do we really have to do that?

I've never noticed this before, but this says that the doujinshi is not canon. So, I think that can give us some more room to work with.

Hey everyone! Sorry I never replied back.

I really really suck at art and programming, so I can't be of any help there. I do humbly offer my services as a script editor when the time comes, however.

Rereading the thread, I had a few ideas. Please forgive if they've already been mentioned, I read kinda fast and didn't quite follow on a few things. pinch.gif

* I've always liked the thought of Gestahl being Kefka's father and some poor Vectorite girl being his mom. This might smack too much of Star Wars.

* I really, really like the thief gang idea. Seriously, I'm already hearing their theme music. If you're using them as antagonists or recurrent nuisances, they can be like a Goldfish Poop Gang! Hey, maybe they could be mercenaries like Shadow if the money's right.

* There's some friction between Kefka and Leo at Doma, and it makes sense for that to not be the first time. I have a feeling that they butt heads constantly. Also, how in the world did a decent guy like Leo wind up in the Empire? I always figured personal loyalty to Gestahl was the only thing keeping him from walking away. Hmm... fic idea brewing...

* Last one's kinda silly, but I always figured that Duncan and Banon were brothers since they shared the same sprite. biggrin.gif Hey, if you need another female character, howzabout Duncan's wife? I was always interested in her story.

Those new sprites are absolutely beautiful. But now I'm shipping human!Ultros and female!Chupon. ohmy.gif

OK....it's been about 1.5 months since I posted last, not sure if there is any comunication between Rex and the other guys involved in this project. I have not been on lately due to moving and my computer broke. (it's fixed now smile.gif ) I'm making this post to let you know Rex I still plan to help just had a few speed bumps.

I had a brief demo video of a little adventure of Ultros and Chupon I was making two months ago that I wanted to post on youtube and share with you guys. Just to give a little example of what Rpg maker 2003 can do, but like I said stuff got put on the backburner and now i'm trying to polish up the demo at the moment.

Hopefully I'll finish it up by the end of this weekend and I just wanted to let you know Rex i'm still here, and hopefully we can start working back and forth provided this project is still going.

On a side note, I noticed the last post in this topic was awhile ago, and I hope there is no policy against reviving an old topic. I didn't see anything regarding it, or I overlooked it in the rules. So if there is I apoligize in advance.

DelNorte is still here? Woah, awesome. I'm looking forward to your demo.

I don't know what happened to the project... We just kinda stop posting. Dunno where Reidrex is and I have no idea what to do from here. But I'm happy to hear from you.

Oh and from you too MeaPortia. I absolutely love your writing style, sorry for missing your post. sad.gif

Yo Reidrex you still out there? I tried sending you some e-mails not sure if you missed or maybe deleted them. Just curious as to what resources you have as far as tilesets, charasets, etc. I have a bunch of ff6 resources available if you need them. I understand you are possibly still busy with real life stuff, but I just wanted to get a correspondence going, sooooo let me know.

I think what i'm going to start doing is creating the various cities such as South Figaro, Narshe, Doma etc in their current forms from the game. Then I'll start going backwords and disassembling them to a reduced state for the -30 and -10 timelines for the prequel.

As I go, I'll post pics for you guys to comment on and make suggestions. And if anyone is wondering about the demo I mentioned back in November, it is still coming. I got sidetracked with real life things, and L4D2 and Dragon age coming out didn't help either. tongue.gif

Anyone feel free to give me suggestions now too, for the maps. I'm going to take a look at some of the earlier pages in this topic, I remember there already being some suggestions on what these places would potentially look like in the past.

Yes, I am alive... unfortunately real life has swallowed me whole... I'm still very interested in this project however I'm finding it VERY difficult to dedicate time to sitting down at my computer to write responses or work on the mapsets.

I was using Paint.NET, FF6A mapsets I found online and a Grid I made to pull the independant tiles. I began working on a few but generally didnt make it very far past the world map and the beginnings of refurbishing the ghost train.

Del, I'll send you a response to your e-mail, we should probably correspond directly rather than through the CoN server, as it's a little cumbersome for me to log-in from my blackberry on the road.
