Let's see if we do have as many people interested in a proper sport as we do American football, eh? It looks like Yahoo now has an EPL fantasy league, and now CoN's in it.
It looks like the gig is this: players can join any time throughout the season, and managers pick any players they want. People can buy any players they want, with a budget of $100 million, regardless of whether other teams in the group have also bought them. I know the season's kicking off in just a few days, but get in early to get credit for this week's matches. Here are the stats to sign up: just like football, post your team name here so we can keep track. Mine's FC Boston Merseyside. http://uk.premiership.fantasysports.yahoo.com Group Name: Narshe Premier League Group ID: 12200 Group Password: joshisacutie I'll be buying my players tomorrow morning. Guess I can't get Xabi Alonso now. ![]() This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 11th August 2009 23:59 -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Meh, might as well play. Pity there's no Jockshire Premier Fantasy Football, but at least the EPL's not usually a two-horse race at the top by Christmas. Mewsevelt United, following Newcastle right into the second tier!

Don't forget to put your team names in here, you lazy gits.
Edit Just completed my first team-buying for the first week. Messier is right, Liverpool players are pretty friggin' expensive. I picked up a couple, though. My big surprise is that I'm heavier in Spurs than I really thought I'd be, and lighter in Man City. Nice, I'm glad to see guys who don't really follow the sport willing to try it out. We're up to seven, as soon as Dragon_Fire finishes up, which he's doing right now. I think we can get to eight, as The_Pink_Nu1 wants in, he's just in the process of moving. Anything beyond that I think is a pretty good success.
![]() Don't forget that you can join the league any time this season, which runs from now until May. First week is now complete, and a bit disappointing. Out of the six people that actually got around to signing up, only three of them managed to fill in their lineups, and a full lineup is necessary to get *any* points for the week.
That being said, I put a bit of a drubbing on folks on the strength of yesterday's games, so the rank is as follows: 1. Yours Truly 2. Del S 3. Messier17 4. fbm, Neal, and Gears I'd suggest getting your players bought no later than Friday to make sure you don't screw yourself over again; same if you're making changes. If we can't get everyone competing in the next couple weeks, I don't really see the point in running this. If you need help figuring out the system or picking players, I'm in chat like sixty hours a week, at least. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I will play, but it'll have to be in about a week and a half from now. The computer I'm using at the moment doesn't like anything more than emails and CoN at a push.

So, Nu and Jav couldn't get in for this week, but two others got their picks in on time and are in the game for real, now. After week two of 17, I'm still in the lead, but by a bit more scant a margin. Messier took over second place from Del, and Mike and Gears got on the board, in that order.
Neal, did you drop out? I don't see you on the board at all. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I finally threw together a team based mostly on sentimentality. I was tempted to populate my back lines with Chelsea players and make up the rest with whoever was left, but that wouldn't be fun. Now that Tevez has scored that all-important first goal he'll hopefully start to have a real impact in his future games.

I finally had to sell Martin Skrtel. The Liverpool defense isn't going to get anyone any points this season, IMO, whether there's beach balls on the pitch or not.

I don't think I have anyone from Liverpool, but, yeah, if I did they would be sold pretty quickly after the last three games.
And to advance on what I said before, I sold Tevez. Didier 'Point Factory' Drogba is in that position now. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

It might be time to cut anyone on Liverpool, in total. I still have Carragher but he's only going to get points if Mascherano can stay un-suspended and do his job as a holding midfielder. I would like to point out that sweetdude is now winning the league and seems to pull a bit further away every week. I blame myself, largely, as I just didn't pay enough attention for way too long.
I will have my revenge, though. I shuffled my lineup for this week and it's already looking pretty good. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

It's all about winning, and being the best at everything.
There's a lot to catch up on here. I managed to drop Vermaelen before he got the red card and suspension which saved me a -9 for an expensive player. Really lucky there. I've nearly settled on a permanent 7 or 8 players with some big discounts, barring injury and perhaps some tempting double game weeks. Rooney and Drogba are just too expensive now so they're out. Shame that Paul Robinson is now injured, I bought him at 3 and he was pulling in between 7 and 28 points in a series of about 10 mid- to low-table games. Bent's a great player. I bet you'll have him on a huge discount right? The last time I picked him he got -1 for the game so I'm not going back again for more. Walcott is strange. He can do well one week then not even play in the next. Hopefully we can get some other teams modernised and see a bit of a fight for the last few games of the season. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. The finale to the season wasn't as epic as I thought it might be. I was expecting Chelsea to lose but then Man U to lose as well meaning Chelsea won it anyway. I'm glad that Spurs came fourth I think they'll make a half-decent Champion's League team, and I don't particularly like Man City. As for the fantasy football, winner winner chicken dinner and all that. It's been a lot of fun.

I'm marginally embarrassed that you came in three or so weeks late and still managed to come away with it by a healthy margin. :\
As for the season, well, obviously it was a massive disappointment for me. With Villa drawing, all we needed was one friggin' goal to move out of group play for Europa, and we couldn't muster that. Lousy season for Liverpool all in all - I don't really care who owns the team come July, or who manages the team come July as long as they get out there and buy SOMETHING that will give Torres some help up front so that his career isn't over by 27. With regards to Man City, I really want to like them. However, I don't really like Ade all that much, and he goes a long way to making me annoyed at them. Shame, too, because Shay Given (and Joe Hart, if they bring him back after the loan) are both class and I have a big soft spot for keepers. And Spurs? Well, don't get me wrong, there's a LOT to like about Spurs, and I'm actually happy to see them in the CL. I would rather it been at the expense of Chelsea or United rather than Liverpool, though. :\ -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I thought the big losers were Arsenal this season. I don't buy Wenger's excuses that other teams go out to injure his players and strategically foul when Arsenal have a counterattack. The injuries are bad but I don't think other players and managers really want to injure, they just want to get physical against Arsenal's small team, who without Sol Campbell would be about 5'3" tall on average. You need to sort that out Wenger, make your boys into men. As for the fouling to stop Arsenal's attacks, that sounds like a good idea to me. It's dirty and probably should be frowned upon more, but it works, and it wins games. Wins games Wenger. Wins. Games. van Persie's injury was a huge loss but the team really should've got themselves a new top CF at the transfer window instead of relying on Fabregas from the mid and Bendtner "I score tap-ins but miss everything else" at the front. Next season I might just fancy Arsenal to take it, however.
Liverpool have had an awful season, but I think the worst is still yet to come. The truly worst situation would be Torres to Chelsea, Rafa to Juventus and Gerrard to Real Madrid. If only one or two of those events happen it would still bode badly for the club. I actually think Rafa can win them some pride back next season, not that this season is anything to go by. However, if Martin O'Neill is offered a year with Liverpool and isn't restricted like his, albeit successful, tenure at Villa, he would be the only replacement I could imagine being superior. I'd imagine that O'Neill wouldn't take it and just wait a year or two for the Man U job. Yeah I agree that they need another CF, and another three if Torres leaves. Also, Drogba and Lampard scored half of all the goals scored in the league. What the hell? -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind.
