I am sorry but the Beatles are just so great. I mean the 6 continous tracks on Abbey Road 10-16 and then the 14 second pause between 16 and 17. It is just so awesome. And if you listen to their music alot one of the best things is the vairety of songs they have I mean you could go from some sappy Paul song (there still awesome, but alot of them are sappy) to some sittar song from George Harrison. It's just awesome. MY favortie album of theres used to be the White Album. But now I just can't denie it Abbey Road is there the best album of all time. Even though in some countdown they gave Revolver a higer score. Revolver is awesome. Right now I am listening to Rubber Soul alot which is another awesome album. And coolest thing about them is how they evovled I mean if you listen to their old stuff (which is still awesome like the clap double clap in I want to hold your hand is just awesome) it is just so much different then there new stuff. And the greatest thing about them is how many songs are going on at once like the cow bell in the background of "A hard day's night". Personally I think George Harrison is the greatest musician, but my friend thinks Paul is and the bass is pretty good. And anybody else who thinks the Beatles are just awesome just come on in and give me your favorite album and musician.

I love Abbey Road as well, Mean Mr. Mustard just gets me to smiling. The sun king brings me a nice feeling of calm zen. I mean, how many artists can make a forgien language sound good?

Yes, the Beatles were/are very good, but not my favourite band. My heroes are Oasis. "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" is the best album ever made in my opinion. But there's nothing wrong with Beatles. We play a couple of Beatles tunes in my band now and then.

At the moment I'm listening to Dream Theater. Just bought "Images And Words". Wonderful album...

wheatsac, i definitely agree with you on this. whether or not theyre anyones favorite band, theyre undoubtedly the most influential rock and roll band in history. most things i listen to wouldnt be around without the beatles.

THE BEATLES influenced (among countless other people) OZZY OSBOURNE who was the singer to BLACK SABBATH who influenced metallica, guns n roses, zakk wylde, and many others.

i think my favorite album would have to be "let it be", but my favorite beatles song by far is "i've just seen a face", on the help album. if anyone here likes guns and roses, has anyone every noticed that the melodies on the last bit of the verse on "ive just seen a face" and the last bit of the chorus in "my michelle" by gnr are identical?

george harrison is my favorite beatle, i always side with the lead guitarist in any situation (kirk hammet, slash, angus young, etc.). words cant describe how i felt when he died. he will be missed.

half of the beatles may be gone, but they will never die.

Hey have you guys heard about "Let it Be - Naked". It is supposedly going to be what the Beatles orignally wanted it to be released as see they recorded back in 1969 and didn't release then after there old producer/director don't what there called died Phil Specter came in and changed what the Beatles wanted it to be. Supposdely Let it Be was supposed to be just the Beatles you know no extra tracks just the 4 beatles jamming. It sounds really great. But I am skeptical becuase the thing that makes the Beatles great are there technical melodies but count on me buying it when it comes out in November I am pretty sure.

I for one never considered them the greatest band. I did like most of their music, but they certainly were not my favorite. For one I couldn't stand most of their stuph before Rubber Soul, far too old school pop for my taste.

I never understood how they got to be so popular after they stopped being pure pop cause their later music sounded really...british. There was never mistaking a Beatles song on the classic rock stations, I don't think anyone else ever used that kinda tart rythme (sp?). Not to say that I didn't think it was good, but I just seemed a bit too high brow for the pop culture taste of the time. Well...oh hell, that's the closest I'm gonna get to explaining it. Anyway...

So yeah, they aint my favorite and for such a good band, they don't seem to have been imitated much like everyone seems to say. I haven't heard their influence on practically any pop music after new wave.

I ask because I've only met one other person who doesn't know about the beatles. You may, and maybe I made a bad assumption, but not knowing the Beatles is like not knowing that there's a moon.

I really liked the Beatles, aside from the fact that they were druggies. One song, which is one of my favorites by coincidence, it's lyrics sound really... weird. It is "I am the Walrus".
Anyway, the Beatles rock all.

Yeah and that inspired almost every major rock group after that to be the same way.

The Beatles were in the right place at the right time with the right ideas and they took advantage of their opportunity. The musical revolution was bound to happen and the Beatles were there to get it going. If not them it would have been another group of which would have been the inspiration for future music in a different way, for better or for worse.

That's not to say that the Beatles weren't good. They came up with good sounds and ideas that no one else had thought of or executed before, and they had the freedom of claiming all the uncharted land they wanted. They had it easy once the foundation was in place, whereas today it's very difficult to be unique.

As for me I appreciate the Beatles' contribution to music and there's no doubt they were great for their time. However today Beatles music to me seems too simplistic and lacking in the instrumental complexity and talent of which is pretty much standard today (well certain types of music anyway), not to mention recording quality. I feel that modern music offers a warmer and more pleasing sound to the ears, though Beatles music is full of artistic talent with catchy lyric and tune integration.

The beatles are (were?) great and although their music isn't something I listen to regularly, but it always puts me in a nice mood.
Also The Beatles and Elvis Presley are great people to me because they influenced people who influenced people who... (ad infinitum)...people who make great music.

About the drugs problems of rock bands...well... it IS a s***-load of stress, isn't it?
I know it's not right, but it could be worse.

The Beatles did to rock music what Elvis did to pop - they defined the genre. Every possible subcatagory of rock (unless you want to count hip-hop, which I don't) can be traced back to the Beatles. They were insanely innovative and really profficient with a number of instruments, including ones that are not traditionally thought of as rock instruments, such as the sitar and cello.

Favorite Album - Revolver or the White Album
Favorite Song - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Favorite Beatle - John Lennon

Lennon's songs were the best out of the 3 (I don't count Ringo as a legitimate songwriter for the band) songwriters, even though all Lennon and McCartney's songs are technically given joint credit.

Yeah, you don't seem to know much about music. I would be willing to bet that most of the bands you like either love the Beatles or love bands who love the Beatles.

The Rolling Stones were actually much more a precursor to a manufactured boy band.

Color me silly but I always thought the Monkees were the precursor to a manufactured boy band. Course they did it with a self referential wink o da eye and they had wit, which I notice was pretty heavy back in the sixties and seventies.

Guess what I just learned. After reading some things about the Beatles I discovered that the beatles were inspired to do Revolver by two things. I knew Bob Dylan was one of their big idols and I knew they were trying to be more like him in the album. But what I didn't know was that they were also inspired by Pet Sounds (The Beach Boys). The reason is that it was one of the first 8 track albums and the amount of melodies that they put on it was incredible. THats why alot of the Revolver songs had the same guitar overdubbed twice, lyrics overdubbed and lots of extra things. So I looked into Pet Sounds (and bout the album which is really good) and discorved that Brian Wilson was inspired to make it after listeneing to Rubber Soul (album before Revolver). He says that every song on Rubber Soul gave the listener a new and original musical experience, and that is what he wanted to do with Pet Sounds.

Yeah, they may have brought about controversy to inspire all the good bands. But the fact remains they helped spawn boybands. Even if Metallica was part of the result. Its a SIN!!! j/k

The music still blows IMHO.

I disagree with you on the spawning boy bands part. If you look at the music that came after the Beatles there weren't boy bands. It was just bad music. Boy bands really didn't start till the early 90's. True they were the first thing close to a boy band (the media was obsessed with them), but alot of people of different ages and classes liked there music not just mainly girls of the ages between 12-16? Somewhere around there and unlike boy bands not making that much headline news the beatles were seriously an obsession. They were almost always in the newspapers.
