OK, I just got word of a photography contest put on by my local newspaper. I want to submit as many pictures as I can, but I don't know how many that is yet. So please view these ten and vote for your favorite, so I can help decide which should get in if for some reason I'm limited. If you aren't sure, you can visit
http://r51.deviantart.com/gallery/ to see my entire gallery of photos that are up right now and suggest one of the others. Here we go.
Please vote quickly. I want plenty of time to get whatever photos I submit ready. Thank you! -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I visited your gallery sometime ago, and you chose two out of my three favorites.
I voted Failing Evergreen, because it looks so good, but my second choice would be Surreal Pool 3, as I told you before. Good luck. |

I voted for Mr.Dragonfly, because that's the one I like the best. However, were I the one submitting the photo, I might choose Empty Carousel; I don't know why, I just seems to me to be the one judges might like best.
If I was chooseing from your gallery as well, I think I might submit Gaslamp. This post has been edited by Iain Peregrine on 22nd September 2003 18:09 |

I like the Evergreen the best. After that, I'd vote for the dragonfly and the kitty.

They were all good
There's so many things to say, so I'll just say a main point in order from most liked to least: I voted Rayburn Mistress becasue I like the way the branches jump into view. Second choice would be the Mt Soledad Cross, because I like the angle you took on that one. Third would be the cat because the lighting alters the image to where it looks a little different at a first glance (and would count for both animals and humor). On Soledad Sunset, I like the angle the flag flapped right when you took the picture. It's just the way it is pointing seems to go well with the angle of the sun. On failing Evergreen, good choice with black and white. It fits the mood of the piece perfectly. On Sparkler Swipe, I like how the sparkler's light blended in evenly with the swipe of her hand, and caused the light to just explode and jump out at you evenly throughout the blur. On Dragonfly Recess, I didn't find anything particularly interesting/special, except the way the dragonfly's body is bent. I do like the crystal clarity of it, though. On Spray, I think it looks cool how the light is following what appears to be a hopping path of whatever that spray is. For surreal pool, I didn't enjoy the coloring of it at all. It just looks too much like a cheesy photograph of a UFO/alien I would especially not reccomend the Empty Carousel. It's just... this is going to be difficult to explain... The circular motion creates different speeds at different points on the carousel, depending on how far into the picture you look into. And since it gradually blurs at different depths into it, it all seems to blend together in an unappealing way. I hope you understand what I'm talking about. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Failing Evergreen
I really enjoy black and white photography, I've always thought I derived more emotion from them. This really is an excellent photo. I like how most of the pic looks alive yet in the foreground is a scene of death. The clouds are perfect and how the sun is just peeking out really works well. For the animal I would chose Libby, however I might be partial to it because it reminds me heavily of my cat Bob(the crazy bastard). -------------------- "My impersonation of an ordinary person was flawless." - Neal "Don't cry because it's over. Failing Evergreen looks to be the best of the bunch, but it was actually a tough choice. I liked the dragonfly as well... it was a tight choice between those two. But all of them are righteous....

Hey Ranger 51, you have some very nice artwork! You sure have talent. I voted for Libbie, whih is a very cute, and detailed portrayal.

God, I've only been away for a while, but geez, look at all the changes and all the new members...
Well, I just need to say "Hi, I'm back around now". I really didn't think this little event needs a topic of its own, though, so I'm just going to leave it be before Josh comes over and takes my head. *shudders at the thought, and holds on to his head* Well, anyway, I have to agree with the majority of the choices, the Failing Evergreen. Maybe it's because I usually like black-and-white. =P -------------------- Nine-hundred ninety-nine billion nine-hundered ninety-nine million nine-hundred ninety-nine thousand nine-hundred ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall... |

Well, I turned in my entries today. Here's what I went with:
Failing Evergreen Dragonfly Recess Rayburn Surreal Pool Sparkler Swipe Rose Gathering Rose Perspective There had been 250 or so photos turned in before mine, and there were still 2.5 days left when I stopped by. I doubt my chances of placing in any of the four categories I entered are very good, but I guess it was fun anyway. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
