I have mostly enjoyed the whole experiance all over again on my downloaded verision on PS3 of the great classic that is ff vii
![]() ![]() ![]() Party members, levels: Cloud lvl. 88 Vincent lvl. 96 (exp plus lol) Cid lvl. 88 The scene: Northern Crater The enemy: 2 Gargoyle's The move: L4 Suicide...... Now i see what you all think but its not that straight forward.. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW: Vincent has Buntline equipped which in case you didnt know is a paired weapon, and in them slots is a 4* Final Attack paired with phoenix 3*. All members have x4 cut and as it is, no average creature is a problem to me as its over very much before they even have a first go (gotta love them Dazers) Now if you know Final Fanasty just based on what i have said to you thus far, you should be able to work out that when the L4 Suicide WIPED OUT ALL PARTY MEMBERS AT ONCE, then my Final Attack should have kicked in and be on the way to reviving me back to full health like my fall back option was. Yet once all party members names had turned red and was nil vincent stood up started to call Phoenix and then before the screen could change to Phoenix it cut out and i found myself instantly listening to the game over music... ![]() This infuriated me to the point of calling up a friend who like me has a vast ammount of playing time to his name, to discuss how that this could possibly be... His words after carefull consideration was that maybe it was a bug !!! So make of this what you will, just ask yourself would that of happened on a actual disk rather than a DOWNLOAD!!!!!! Your thoughts please??? ![]() |

Did Vincent have sufficient MP to summon Phoenix? My first thought is, of course, that he didn't have enough left, and therefore the summon failed. Otherwise, yeah, that sounds like a bug to me.

I know i didn't specify before... Doh yes he had full mp no magic apart from Phoenix, no need for magic when you can hack them down faster with X4 cut.....

L4 Suicide doesn't kill anyone. Just makes the target to go to critical status (Low HP) and Mini.

i think i have the answer... when the gargoyles use lv4 suicide they die, is like their version of final attack, so probably if it was the last gargoyle remaining your vincent's phx-final attack had no target available to attack, this is not a bug, the gargoyles pretty much owned you. if you were to have 'revive' materia instead of phoenix the result would've been different.
if a gargoyle hits your entire party with lv4 suicide you can revive the fallen with a PHX+Final Attack if one or more targets remain, if all targets are eliminated the SUMMON or MAGIC/ATTACK (or final input/command) will be cancelled. if i remember correct, lv4 suicide does not bring the target to critical and has no mini effect. lv4 suicide kills a target who's level is divisible by 4 (and 2) and brings DEATH to the caster. am i right? I'm not so sure.
Quote The scene: Northern Crater The enemy: 2 Gargoyle's The move: L4 Suicide...... First of all, everything I've read says that Gargoyles use L4 Death, not Suicide. The main difference (for your purposes) being that Suicide, as other posters have stated, sends the victim into critical (other sites say it takes off 31/32 of your hit points), whereas Death is an insta-kill, provided it's used on someone of the correct level, as you were. Quote when the L4 Suicide WIPED OUT ALL PARTY MEMBERS AT ONCE, then my Final Attack should have kicked in and be on the way to reviving me back to full health like my fall back option was. Yet once all party members names had turned red and was nil vincent stood up started to call Phoenix and then before the screen could change to Phoenix it cut out and i found myself instantly listening to the game over music... Now, I wasn't anywhere near the Crater, so I wasn't able to test against the Death move, but I did try a Final Attack/Phoenix combo against Death Sentence. Solely for the purpose of testing this issue. Final Attack never triggered. And by the way...this was on the CD version. So if it's a bug, it's in the game itself, not just the download. On the other hand, it may be that KO's that are the result of effects (Death Sentence and other insta-kills) are...shall we say...immune to the protection that is Final Attack. If that's the case, though, then I'd say the only weird thing is that he stood up and started to summon Phoenix...which I think Saffire Weapon might have the answer for, but more on that in a bit. Like I said, in my test, Final Attack never triggered. No standing up, no starting to summon, nada, just time ran out on the Death Sentence and game over. (My Final Attacker died twice from Death Sentence: once when my other characters were still alive...one of them had to use a Phoenix down on my guinea pig; and once after I'd made sure to kill the other two characters just to test this issue.) However, as to Saffire Weapon's response: Quote if it was the last gargoyle remaining your vincent's phx-final attack had no target available to attack .... if a gargoyle hits your entire party with lv4 suicide you can revive the fallen with a PHX+Final Attack if one or more targets remain, if all targets are eliminated the SUMMON or MAGIC/ATTACK (or final input/command) will be canceled. If found that one out in another test. One character had a few Final Attack/Master Summon pairings. I found out that what gets summoned in these circumstances seems to be random. The first summon wiped out the enemies...and while Cloud attempted to summon others (names were shown on screen...including Phoenix) nothing ever got summoned after the first one. Which makes the Master Summon Final Attack test sound like SW's theory, which is equally valid for the original poster's situation. |
