Y'know IV was a biiiiiit too linear(insofar as I have played it)whereas VI had sidequests,Collesiuememem,Places to go things too kill not just awww geez i'm dark knight and can never be with my chick Rosa...AWLD' on!there's a solution!why don't I just stop being a Dark Knight! seriously man It's an obvious solution but noooo Cecil just ignores it until some random light tunes him to have the crap beaten out of him by himself. And seriously Blades of Steel your Shadow comment about not finding out all about his past is just stupid because it's supposed to be unfathomable thereby making him mysterious and cool.Like Cecil in the beggining. In VI you can mix and match according to your particular style of play in IV your'e stuck with whatever the story wants to give you.And FYI IT WASN'T A GOOD BATTLE SYSTEM! I could liken it to a man with tuberculosis' death rattle. hack hack pause jerk twitch cough choke bleed die oooh sorry game over better luck next time!

VI is better in every way. That's not to say I didn't like IV, but it just felt a bit more like a casual game, with VI being an epic saga.

Yep.
FFVI has the graphics, though only slightly better.(GBA)
FFIV has, I'm not sure what. but I still liked it.(GBA)

I am not too sure which one is actully better but I had to vote four because it has some of my favorite ff characters of all time. the two stories are differnt in many ways especially since the story of 4 is more about redemtion a nd 6 is more about chivalry and stoping a power hungry, super carzy, extermely phycopathic villian. not to mention that four is kinad the first love story that most of the following game stry to implement

FFIV is great and a classic and all, but FFVI is more or less my favourite game ever.

Hard vote. Systematically VI is the superior game. More options, plus being the first true ATB game gives it the win.

However, I believe that that IV is the core of what an rpg is. A great hero with his own personal demons pursues against all odds to rescue the world from the clutches of an evil man. This to me is the foundation of any great rpg. While there may be other rpgs that came out after that are better (VI included), show me one before it.
IV was the first (and only) game that made me cry when I finished it, but VI was the first one that made me immediately start over and play again.

I'll have to go with IV simply because of one thing: The plot. It wasn't convoluted and confused and all that, and it didn't have 14 characters with back stories to wade through. It was simple and clean, and the story was what made it memorable. The love triangle, Kain's inevitable betrayal and Cecil's ascension as a Paladin. It works perfectly together.

This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy.

I was a soldier, now I just play one in video games.

Hmm, I have never really thought that VI's story was confusing. I've always thought the hallmark of VI's story was that it was told in a measured fashion that made the plot and subplot cohesive. And I've also thought that, in comparison, VI's story was more polished and seemless, while also being deeper and more complex (not in size, but in its style). Now, obviously that has a lot to do with the technology, and I'm not saying that you aren't entitled to your opinion. No, I respect it, but I just don't see IV's story being better than VI's.

VI had the better story, plot, narration (I think there's a distinction between the three), characters, soundtrack, and atmosphere.

And Kefka's the man, not least cuz, y'know, we actually got to know him throughout the story. Mystery villains you don't meet 'til the end suck.

VI is great. By comparison, all the FFs before it are trash in my eyes.
