Yes, I'm curious. Nobuo Uematsu (*church chorus*) has composed several masterpieces, and I was wondering... in your opinion, what's the best soundtrack in the series?


I love FF9's. It's plain awesome. It sounds medieval, is clevery composed, features awesome tracks like You're Not Alone and Loss of Me... not to mention The Place I'll Return to Someday. And the two final battle themes rock.

FF6's good too, with Dancing Mad and Kefka's upbeat theme song. And even though a lot of people love Searching For Friends, I prefer Gogo's Theme.

FF7's is bland, monotonous, and uninspired. But as you are about to finish playing (probably thinking, this soundtrack sucks), they manage to pull off their saving graces: JENOVA and One Winged Angel.

FFX has that wonderfully placed Otherworld, not to mention all of Seymour's themes and battle themes, except the boss one, which sucks.

Trigger has its moments. Like Magus'.



So, you ask, what's my favorite? 9.

Melodies of Life.
Immoral Melody.
You're Not Alone.
Loss of Me.
Dark Messenger.
Funny upbeat themes.
Dramatic themes.
ZORN AND THORN'S THEME! YEAAAAH!

Truly, the best (on my opinion that is).

Haha, I loved zorn and thorn's theme. I was almost sad I had to kill them. (Almost anyway...)

Not to play devil's advocate but there is a lot of nostalgia attached to FF7 so that's easily my favorite.

Like you said FF9 was great and that's second place.

And I don't feel like picking a 3rd

That's a very mean question to ask. I'm having a hard time picking Uematsu work, almost all of it is great stuff. Let's see...

My favorite soundtrack would be VI, that's for sure. Then IX, and then.. hum-uh IV, no wait II.. no, III! V?

As for favorite tracks:

1.Searching for Friends (VI) – Yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with that one.
2.Castle Pandemonium (II) – IMHO, is the best music for a final level in a FF.
3.My Home Sweet Home (V) – Nostalgia, it delivers.
4.The Place I'll Return to Someday (IX) – Beautiful, just beautiful.
5.Terra's theme (VI) – My original VI favorite, but I kind of ruined it by hearing it hundreds of times.
6.Aria di Mezzo Carattere (VI)– Outstanding.
7.Coin Song (VI) – I turn sentimental whenever I hear it.
8.Eternal Harvest (IX) – Now, this puts me in happy mood.
9.Forbidden Land Eureka (III) – That part is what I like most about III.
10.Rebel Army Theme (II) – Phew, this last spot was hard to decide.

"Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine

I could swear we already had one of these... but a quick search didn't yeild any results.

My favorite has to be FFX. It has some strong themes that are catchy and stick with you (To Zanarkand, Besaid, Auron's Theme, Yuna's Theme, Tidus' Theme). It also has some great background songs that completely set the mood for the location and the feeling at that point in the game. For instance: Wandering, Sprouting, Phantoms, Via Purifico, Luca, Spira Unplugged (nostalgia, anyone?). It has great ups and downs. Overall a fantastic soundtrack that I find myself listening to on a regular basis.

FFVI has my favorite soundtrack especially the characters personal themes, Next would be FFIX and then FFVII. I'm currently playing chrono trigger and the music in that is awesome as well
