For a start, you find him in a coffin, he has red eyes, wears tight black leather and a cape, broods a lot, and in Dirge of Cerberus he has a glass of sinisterly red stuff (okay, it's red wine, but hey) that looks like blood. I know this is totally stupid, but I wanna see how many people reckon Vincent Valentine could in fact be a vampire!

I do agree with you. Vincent does have alot of vampire traits in my opinion, but we can't confirm this. Let's just leave it to Square to tell us if he is or not.

No.
He doesn't drink blood, he can walk in the sunlight, he doesn't need to be stabbed through the heart to die, nor does he show any other vampiric trait, except maybe transformations, but he doesn't change into a bat, wolf or mist.
Basically, he's a monster, but not a vampire.

He's not a monster, either. In fact, the game pretty explicitly states that he is the unfortunate result of Hojo's experimentation, nothing more or less. Yes, he exhibits rather feral and sinister qualities at times and, ironically, transforms into forms that resemble various horror archetype icons, but is himself still mostly human.

What was done to him was essentially Hojo's experiments prior to proper Jenova testing or the process that made soldiers, but it is safe to assume it helped lay the groundwork for what was later done.

The coffin itself had little to do with vampirism and more to do with his idea of repentance, penance and redemption.

As for the whole levitation bit, well, in a world where regular men can summon giant dragons and punches can have the force of nuclear explosions, is it so hard to believe that someone could float, or fly in a fashion? I'd call it a perk of the Mad Doctor's tinkering more than I would a blood-fetish.

I know he's not a vampire, it's just he looks like he could be. And as for the walking in sunlight part, the vampires in the Skulduggery Pleasant series can do just that, but ignore me...I know full well what he is because he is my favourite character, but sometimes even I like to poke fun at those I like.
Oh, and another thing, Vincent is immortal, yeah, but if he was stabbed through the heart he would probably die, like anyone else.

What this guy said

Now, to make this post not completely useless, Vincent could easily be made a vampire if Square wanted it. He exhibits enough common traits, and vampires can really be twisted in any fashion to fit the artist's desire. He could be a sort of "sci-fi vampire", a human that was made a vampire through experimentation from a mad scientist. From what we know, he isn't a vampire, but they could do it if they really wanted to.

DF said pretty much what I was thinking, but I I could have sworn there was something in the story where Vincent mentioned that Hojo has made him "undead." I wouldn't call him a vampire though. From what I remember, he always seemed more like a zombie that's capable if complex thought, and speed.

Definitely. These are really important themes in the entire story, but particularly in Vincent's path as an individual.

He doesn't exhibit any solid vampire traits, as said above. The key to vampires' popularity is the sensual appeal of the blood-lust, or the act of drinking blood. Since Vincent doesn't fulfill this, I don't think he can even be considered close to being a vampire.

Finally, we already know he is the result of experiments. That rules out any vampire-ness.

Edit
This better not be the result of someone reading too much twilight...

Twilight? Ewww. Course not. Like I said before, I was EXTREMELY bored and decided what reactions I'd get outta people. I don't think he's a vampire either, this is just for random reasons to be honest.

I WOULDDD LOVE to think vincent is a vampire.that would make him hotter.
but he isnt. how sad. he looks a LOT like one though.
i mean, he has red eyes, is inmortal, doesnt sleep or eat a lot, has this gothic-look on him, really pale skin, and u never see him in sunlight. well, u do, but. not that much. he drinks this weirdo red glass in DoC, ( i know is wine but still ), he's really strong,, he has this sexy vamp-like voice, and damn he is just HOT. all vampires are hot. I've read a lot of vamp books ( Southern vampire, anita blake books, vampire diaries, Blue blood, Dracula, etc ) and Vincent fo sure can pass as a vampire to me.
maybe square-enix would make him later a vamp. I wish they do.

He could be interpreted as a vampire. The vampire legends have been changed around a lot to fit the writer's tastes. And we don't see any of the characters eat too much in the game so he easily could go for blood, we just don't see it.

Count Orlok might indicate otherwise, though perhaps beauty is in the eye of the beholder. tongue.gif

On topic: One could make a case for vampirism, but until Vince chows down on someone/some thing's jugular I'm casting my lot with "non-vampire". Granted, that would make for an interesting business card:

Vincent isn't a vampire, but Square has admitted to making many vampirish references (I.E, barely any, if none at all, scenes that are animated with Vincent have full sunlight, to have his Limit Breaks take forms from horror films and novels, not to mention the really obvious ones) They (Squaresoft) said it was a joke that ran through the developers.

My opinion to how this could have happened is this.

Seeing as the horrible experiments could have just as easily warped his mind than his body, a lot of things could happen. I mean, the Turks, where he was from, usually have hobbies, and his could have been horror novels/movies. These, along with the rest of his mind, were warped and left to rest for 30 years, to twist, shape and manifest. I mean, A good horror novel can give me nightmares, let alone a whole load of them, but at least I wake up in the morning.

well, lets look at what vampires are today...

Glittery sparkles-No

Incredibly attractive-no (although a matter of opinion)

Cold skin-maybe

Speed-also maybe

Strength- no I say so because he uses a gun rather than his claw hand, and only attacks with strength while transformed.

keen senses-no, although if he did he could just say nothing.

They don't sleep- no

as far as twilight vampires go I'm going to say no.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
I hate twilight

"realistic" vampire wise? I'm going to say no, I think he is meant to be dark and maybe somewhat creepy, but when it comes down to it, he still has a heart. Otherwise why would he protect his friends at all?
