Math, always has been always will be my kryptonite. It seems to run the family I think as it is my moms weak subject and my younger sister's subject. I've been taking a summer course atmy college and it being Algebra II, I have had troubles many times. So all in all math is my weak subject.

I haven't been in school in eight years now. Honestly, I have to say that I didn't have a weak subject in school until probably my senior year of high school, where Physics gave me some minor issues because sometimes I didn't know the trig I needed to do the problems (because while you're supposed to take trig before physics, I did both simultaneously).
Nothing really beat me up too bad at University, either, until I tried to go after a minor in economics; the first high-level econ class I took was based on nothing but game theory and theoretical calculus, and I just didn't have the background to do well. I dropped that class and the hope of an econ minor with it. I guess that being said, I'd have to go with math as well, though it's pretty relative; I think if I went back and tried to start over with calculus now and really focused on it, I'd probably do okay. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Home Economics was my worst. It basically includes cooking, sewing, cleaning and good housekeeping in general. Cooking's not a problem, but sewing was a nightmare. Just trying to thread the needle made me stab myself. Also those old sewing machines we had in school were loud and dangerously mobile (when turned on). Complete disaster, although I did make some pretty good butterfly cakes in one class.

Well, I've always done well in the early courses of whatever I take. That said, I took an economics class and hated it. I didn't do well because I couldn't stand any of it. I couldn't focus on it enough to really learn any of it. I know supply and demand laws. That's about it.

Hmm... That would have to be any technology courses. Wood tech, food tech, fashion..
They were all compulsory in my first year of high school and I failed them all. Plus the teachers hated me! I can't imagine why.. Other than that I'd have to go boring and say Maths and Science. -------------------- *Sigh*....Times are tough |

I was always good in school. It feels weird to say was when talking about high school. I just graduated early this year, top ten % in my class(but I don't want to brag

Definetly math, but I hope to combat that this summer. I am studying on Math.com and I am going to refresh my mind when it comes to grade 11 math. I am taking grade 12 math courses this fall... Not looking forward to it, but heres hoping I can fix my math problem!

I've never really had a bad subject. Nothing to bring me lower than an A- at least. And I either have or will be taking an AP course in all subject areas. But I suppose I struggled the most in, well, Pre-Calc. It was very frustrating for me for some reason. AP Stats? A, no problem, loved it. Pre-Calc? Hated every class period, every chapter, and struggled to finish with an A-.
Edit I love history! That and english: the plan currently is to double major. They've always been my favorite over math and science, by and far. Math, hands down. I can handle it OK in business settings (accounting, tax, etc.) though I'm no wiz at it there either. When it comes to handling math in the abstract, and in the sciences, I'm at a total loss. Which is too bad, because astronomy is one of my favorite subjects, but I could never get deep into the physics of it because of my math handicap.

I'm weird. I am, by definition and coursework, a math/science person. However, I also have a bizarre passion for humanities, especially European history and the classics. I was almost a classics major in college, but I switched to physics (and changed again later) in large part because I wasn't interested in learning Latin and Greek. Gym isn't a legal answer, either, because I was always good at it.
My worst subject in high school was probably government. I liked US history okay, but studying the constitution and law never was very interesting to me, although I do follow local, state, and national elections pretty closely. AP Gov was my only sub-5 on the eight AP tests I took in high school. And it wasn't the teacher's fault, he was great, I just didn't like the material. My least-favorite class in college, though, was Differential Equations by a longshot. I hated that class. I busted my ass, and would get 50s and 60s on tests that somehow translated into an eventual B-. It was the last math class I ever took, and it essentially turned me off to taking any other post-calculus math. I was *shocked* when I visited a major advisor two years later and DiffEQ turned out to be one of the final credits working towards my B.Sc. because it was a math course beyond Calc III. It actually counted for something! -------------------- |

I feel like I should point out that my math weakness, while it did beat me up for economics, wasn't to the point where I didn't do 80% of my wife's Physics 101 and 102 homework for her when we were seniors at Uni. Just saying.
And just because BlitzSage brought it up, I graduated from University in the top three percent of my class. That was a class of roughly six thousand. ![]() This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 10th July 2009 12:37 -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I was a pretty good student, but it was entirely dependent on how motivated I was for the subject. I loathed Computer Science in college, mainly because it followed a path that was uninteresting to me, so I did poorly at it. I love math and was good at it but only to a point - the highest-level courses I took nearly prevented me from graduating. I think overall history was my weakest because it just doesn't interest me that much.

Spanish. We were required to take a foreign language class in high school and because I had taken two years in middle school I took spanish for all four years of high school. I think foreign languages in general are really difficult for me because they've always been the least interesting of my courses and I just never really felt compelled to do that well.

I don't really have that much trouble in anything, a bit in math, but that's mostly because I find it sooo boring.

I thought I was bragging. ![]() I was between 17th and 12th (never really checked. i was 17th but I moved up) of a class of less than 200. I had a 3.8, but to defend myself I was doing college work (albeit it community college) during my entire senior year. Actually I did well in most of those, except an online one and Composition. But most of those I got a A in. The classes through high school that I didn't were ones that were the easy classes I didn't care about. I'm glad you guys brought up Spanish. I didn't do well in that class because it was my freshman year and I really didn't care then. The class I was surprisingly good in was Innovations & Inventions (AKA Shop). Didn't think I would because I'm not a "shop" person, but I actually did a good job in there. If I had to pick my favorite subjects, and the ones I was strongest in, are anything to do with history and government, and sometimes I enjoy business and marketing related classes. If I had to say why, I love classes that engage you in things such as politics and world events. And I love all forms of art and storytelling, and history is sort of like a story. But what I don't like are classes that are formulaic (mostly math and chemistry) and anything else like that. -------------------- |

Can I brag too?
I graduated 5th out of a class of 379 while taking nothing but AP courses for my final two years, taking 12 exams total (all 5's except my history/government exams). I had a 79 average in Government and my overall average will still 102.6. I am graduating in 3 years with a degree in Ceramic Engineering and a 3.8+ GPA. Oh, it's bragging time?
My high school didn't rank. Because when you're one of the best academic high schools in the United States any form of ranking would turn into a bloodbath. I finished with a 3.77 unweighted, took 8 AP courses, and was probably only in the 40 or 50th percentile in my class of 400. I then went to graduate with a 3.2 GPA at a top-30 university despite getting a 2.1 for a semester during which I missed three months of school due to illness and had a nervous breakdown during exam week. I finished with a BS in Environmental Science with a minor in Astromony and was a president or co-president of two student organizations. -------------------- |

I was not good generally in alot of them.
But i was worse in math. mary has bla bla bla and bob has bla bla bla and if x=y y=what? wtf? hate problem questions. I was actually more interested in history and i didn't do bad at all in english.Back then though i was rebellious and i didn't want to study and i hated school and i was depressed. My issue is that the classes were almost all excrutiatingly boring, wich is why some people here find math and other stuff boring. I was about hmm 15? and i was in class and i found math to be particularly dificult for me.The rest didn't bother me because i did enjoy the history of the roman empire. Problem also that countries never talk about their downfalls or their bad stuff. They want to talk about the glories and glorify that country to death. spain never talks about the spain never mentions the spanish inquisition or killing off all the indians or religious fanatics or franco. If you read fully a book about history of a culture like greece and egypt and such, there are tons of things that are interesting that they never tell you in school,or at least when i was a kid they didn't and in that particular class. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. Almost everything. Sucked the most at Math computers Physical Education and Geography.. PE couldn't catch a ball or get into the main sport teams. But did enjoy studying and learning the bones and muscles of the body sadly that only lasted a month.. Geography was forced to take and the Teacher kept on walking outside because he wanted to really smoke more than Tech ![]() Math sucked at Math but during the final year of learning Math Sudoku came along and was really good at it. Managed to pass something and get a high score in math. I love love love mathematics. Abstract algebra, differential equations, topology, analysis, all good stuff.
Though this is the case, my worst classes through my undergrad career were science classes. I got C's in all of them because I loathed the process of having to memorize things. This happened in physics, chemistry, and geology. In math we're taught how things we memorize develop (which naturally gets remembered), but in science it feels like reading a factsheet and I hate it. I think I'd really enjoy higher level science classes, though. |

I've always been a good math person, but Calculus is really kicking my ass. I'm currently cramming second semester Calculus into six weeks over the summer after barely surviving Calc 1 in the spring (though admittedly with an extremely difficult instructor). English can be a weak subject for me simply because I really don't like writing papers. I hate getting bogged down in the minutia of crediting sources and such, and it's really annoying to me when instructors like to see writing process steps like notes and drafts. I understand that the best writing is often revised writing, but I just really don't like making major revisions to my work. That being said, I am in all modestry an extremely good technical writer (though not a very creative one) with a natural knack for grammar, punctuation and spelling. That, combined with my mean perfectionistic streak, usually means that I do extremely well when I actually get my work done and turned in at least somewhat on time. How an instructor feels about work turned in late really affects my overall grades, though (which would be why I ended up with a C in English 1 and an A in English 2). I really do enjoy analying creative writing, though; I just can't write that way myself.
In high school my worst class was probably Spanish. I don't think I'm really cut out for learning another language. That was almost ten years ago, though, so I might do better now. The physical sciences are my thing. Geology, Chemistry, Astronomy; those are the subjects in which I really excel. Though I've managed to stand out quite a bit in my political science and philosophy classes, as well. This post has been edited by Reod Dai on 13th July 2009 22:35 |

Quote (Caesar @ 11th July 2009 11:13) Can I brag too? Ego flexing is fun. LOL, well when you put it that way, here's my go at it. I was home schooled from the 7th grade up. My mother is severely mentally unstable and my dad was a truck driver (not to mention, they were divorced and I lived with my dad, who was always on the road), so I didn't have a teacher in junior high or high school, I just learned from the books. When I graduated high school I didn't have ace scores or anything. I finished with a 3.6. When I got in college I did well on my entrance tests and began majoring in English. When I went to Texas A&M's English department, the head of department asked me my back ground story and I told him the whole thing, to which he replied "You gave yourself a high school education and managed scores like this??!!" As far as "worst subject" goes, I'd probably have to say math. I'm still learning all kinds of neat little tricks and stuff, that I wish I had known back in high school, when it comes to numbers, and that's probably what keeps me interested in the subject. If not for that I might actually hate math, but I'm not terrible at it, I just find it an utter bore. I'd rather be writing essays, learning a second language, or studying biology (it's a hobby, my passion is language.. when I get my master's I'm leaving the country to teach English). Sooooo, I guess math is my worst subject.. it seems to be quite common from what I can see. -------------------- Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world. -Tiddles |
