hey all,
haven't started a thread here in awhile but I had a quick question about this psp game. i've played every final fantasy and i truly love the series, but the only one i've steered away from is final fantasy tactics. i've never really been fond of tactical games, but i've kinda semi-had my eye on this one for awhile. a couple of friends highly recommended it even though i'm not into these types of games. plus, since its final fantasy, i was willing to give it a shot so i picked up a copy last night. i've never really played games like this much so I was just wondering what your opinions it (with out spoilers please ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanx homies! I love Tactics, both on the PSP and on the PS1. While there is ultimately more content in the PSP version, there are things you can do with the PS1 version that aren't possible otherwise, be they glitches or using a Gameshark to design your own class and skillset.
I would recommend knowing your status ailments and which monsters cause them, particularly at the beginning of the game. Goblins, for example, can inflict Darkness, which can be negated to some degree by getting behind your enemy before attacking, so it's not too bad. Poison, on the other hand, can be quite deadly if you don't regard it as a danger, and forget to heal that Poisoned ally before charging them in to battle. Another recommendation would be save lots, and keep an eye on what enemies you're facing in random battles. Particularly early on, if you're fighting at Mandalia Plains, you'll find Yellow Chocobos to be troublesome when they appear in groups (and they sometimes appear three at a time, with other monsters). My method of dealing with this is to lure them into a particular location, surround them, and beat on them until they're either at Critical HP or are defeated. If you get them to Critical HP while they're surrounded, there's a chance (higher in the PS1 version than the PSP version, if memory serves, though I could well be mistaken) that they'll use Chococure and heal your units in the process. If it's your first time ever playing the game, I recommend staying away from Walkthroughs, Job Class charts, and similar helper tools. While getting all the Jobs can be fun, I feel that the first time should be about immersing yourself in the storyline, rather than grinding away until you unlock Calculators or Mimes. |

I'll quote Suunok and repeat that a key hint for a new player would be to save often! Personally, I save after every battle and just in case, I always keep a second free slot for a second save just as a back-up. You'll definately want to warp your head around this great story and when I started, the first time I looked at a walkthrough was after I had beaten it for the first time.
One thing I will add, is that if you rush through the game like you can with other FF titles, you will regret it later becuase although every gamer is different, in my opinion, I think that this is a game that you want to take your time with. I find more success as a methodical gamer, myself and while you may not want to take ALL the time in the world, I don't think you should rush through it, either. -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh? I seriously think that Final Fantasy Tactics is a MUST have game. It puts the Final Fantasy series to a whole new level. I wouldn't say it best the orginal series though. Anyways, my best advices are 1, study your oppenents moves well and find a counter strategy. This grarentee that you wont get frustrated by making a mistake that you will regret. Trust me, unlike the orginal series, one mistake on Tactics could cost you the whole battle. And like what Suunok and FreeBird said, save like no tommorow.

just train a ridiculous amount in the beginning of chapter 1 get the hang of the game and try out the job classes and then go on, normally you train so high you skate through all the way to about the end of chapter 3 with little to no difficulty
and by then you can buy some of those weapons for classes you couldnt in the first few chapters -------------------- "Change the world? no one can do that, Im not that naive!" |

Well FFT for the PS1 is what really got me started in the Tactical type of games. I only played Orge Battle before that.
But anyway, the best advise I could give you is to train hard and often. Then also to learn as much as you can from each job class. Always experiment! They have so many combinations to use! -------------------- |

I'm not a real fan of tactical games either, but FFT is so wonderful and intricate, in both it's plot and it's gameplay, that it's engaging and complicated while still being relatively simply to figure out. It's really my favorite, and certainly the most underrated game in the series.

A good tactic to use is the surround heal method
step 1 go to mandalia plains step 2 kill off all enemies except for one goblin step 3 surround said goblin step 4 attack with 2 units heal with other 2 remainder of the party can go off and do their own thing step 4 lather rinse repeat. make sure you never have to wait a turn note when white mages run out of MP try to get them to a crystal and use potions to heal the goblin whilst they are gone I got Ramza to Lvl. 15 in chapter 1 and lvl. 25 in chapter 2 I haven't gone to chapter 3 yet though( Damn Gafgarion and your awesome Night Sword!) Save often!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tactics is all about plot. It's an amazing, amazing game and far and away my favourite FFT.
As far as tactics and strategies, just enjoy the game. There's absolutely nothing like playing through it for the first time, so don't try to break the game, just enjoy it. -------------------- Head Administrator, Lead Developer, and Official Proposition-Master of Heroes of Ivalice. |

Try to get a character level 8 on all job classes, that's how to unlock all the jobs. In general, ladies are better magic users and gents are better physical attackers, but there are no rules here...
