This conversation made me think.

Why did you choose your CoN name? What is behind the names you created for this site.

I know this is a silly topic, but I've always wondered what made you choose Ranger 51, laszlow, Glenn Magus Harvey. What do they mean? This is for everybody, I guess, I'm just curious.

Around the time I registered for CoN, I was playing through FFX2 and I thought baralai was pretty cool. Seemed like a badass yet was always calm and collected throughout the game. Amazing character in my opinion. Since he was my favorite character at the time, I just paired the name with my jersey number, 8.

What about you Blitzsage? I'm curious to hear other people's stories as well.

Well, I initially wanted to use something with Sabin, but the one I wanted to use I couldn't. Around the time I was personally creating some personal ffvi fanfic-like stuff for myself (still am, it's pretty extensive), and I focused on the Blitz. I created a Blitz hierarchy depending on how well you learned the Blitz Arts. The top was, you guessed it, sage. I don't know exactly how it came about anymore, but I really like the word sage (was gonna choose BlitzMaster, but BlitzSage just sounded good to me). Now I try to get that name on everything I sign up for.

Edit
thanks laszlow. I wasn't sure if there was a topic like this, but I figured since it was a little older that I might revive it for the newer members. Plus, it's rather cluttered, a little hard to look through all those pages.

Btw, I've changed my signature like I've been meaning to for so long. It's a small poem I wrote for Creative Writing extra credit. It's about my name.

Quote
Look to the dusk, and see that hope is fading
Look to the night, and see a world of despair
Look to the stars, and see the Sage of ancient power
Look to the dawn, and see all faith restored

There are many other versions, and the actual version I turned in is much longer.

Shining Force came out in the states in 1993 and I thought Kane of Runefaust was the coolest thing since sliced bread. I named the first D&D character I ever played Kane. Because of a translation error within the game, Kane is also referred to as Cain. My brother liked that version and our mutual best friend loved the name Kain from FFIV. So, we would always (jokingly) argue about whose spelling was the correct, the ultimate one. I now use Kane for just about everything.

Well, what with the old topic being locked (a first that I've seen since being here, as "thread necromancy" used to be encouraged and multiple threads on the same topic discouraged), here's my post from over there, stuck in this thread for posterity:

Quote
So I looked back at my old post in this [old] thread.

Well, I'm no longer working on that RPG project [that I described in said post]; I later decided that I didn't actually have a plot in mind, so I wasn't getting anywhere.

Also, I've shortened by spiel about where my username (which I use here and on various other sites) is from: I'll put it here so you don't have to flip back through the thread.

"Glenn" and "Magus" are from Chrono Trigger. "Harvey" refers to Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV. I put them together because Glenn is a reasonably realistic first name, and Harvey is a reasonably realistic last name. "Magus" got in on Rule of Cool, and because I wanted to reference Magus.

I've since met a lot more characters I like, but I've stuck with Glenn Magus Harvey (sometimes abbreviated GMH) because it's handy and easily memorable.

Screen names are a bit like old email addresses aren't they. Can be quite embarrassing trying to explain why on earth you chose it.

Anyways, I used to indulge in a tuesday night computer club at High School and I wanted a name that let everyone know who I was without being boring. So, my name is Martin: martineatron; mertinator; mertinatron. Mertinatron just stuck with me.

I don't use that name for anything else now though. I am spazamataz!

'sweetdude' from Dude Where's My Car. I can't remember why I was watching it or why I thought it might be a good name, but here we are. Lower case because 'Sweetdude' just looks ridiculous. The name's bad enough as it is.

I know it may seem that I chose my name because I'm a huge fan of Sephiroth, but actually, I'm not. I found this website searching for a final fantasy anime movie and ended up wanting to make a post when I ran across a thread I was interested in. I had FF on the brain and needed to register in order to make a post (at the time I figured I would make one post and never come back). This was the first name that popped into mind. I really thought that it would already be taken. I never dreamed that no one would have used it, but I got it and now I'm stuck with it. That's my story.

THE_MAN originated in marching band. One of my friends used the phrase "The man" to say "You're the man" or "That's awesome." I adopted it as my MySpace name soon afterwards. Eventually, I decided to personalize it a bit and made it all CAPS and added the underscore. Since then, it has been my username whenever I register for a new forum or similar online group.

I used to hang around the FFGURUS.net forums back in the day, at first I was Omni_Jenova, I got banned because of a Sapphire Weapon conversation, which was taboo over there, and so when I registered once again I took the name SaffireWeapon. I met Rangers51 over there and that's how I first came to know of CoN's existence, and when I finally decided to register I did so under the same FFGURUS.net nickname. Been loving CoN ever since, and since 2005 I've been coming here every once in a while to see what's up with the Final Fantasy and RPG community in general. So there you have it, consider me and my name a TRANSFER from another forum!

Some years ago, I took to coming up with a number of silly fantasy names for one reason or another. "Galsic" was one of them and, upon signing up for CoN, I picked it on a whim.

'Blades of Steel' is the title of a song recorded by a NWOBHM band called 'Satan'. I just loved their music (they're not even satanic!) and thought that it was a pretty cool looking name. So I chose it.

Then I have to retract my statement in the other thread about how good your username was, I'm afraid - I assumed it was a reference to the awesome NES hockey game by Konami.

I don't recall having posted in this new thread...

Well, basically, I was an emotional teenager and found double meanings in everything smile.gif

Relm Arrowny (Spelled wrong, haha) was the artist of the group. I like to draw. Easy enough to get.

But also, she was the runt of the group because of her age, and often seen as sort of a joke in terms of battle, and often just seemed a bit too cute to be taken seriously either way. Which was also like me, I'm a really clumsy, forgetful person, and people tell me I look "Lost or confused" a lot. sad.gif And, Relm's other girl friends were pretty, likeable characters with their own thing going on, and that's pretty much how I felt; my friends were all these pretty, skinny people who seemed to have everything right going on, and I was stuck with nothing, haha.

Way lamer now that you know the story, huh? biggrin.gif

Back when I signed up, (5-6 years ago?) I still played Starcraft and was in a clan called l)ark. Shadow was my favorite character from FFVI, so if you add them together you get l)arkShadow!

Nowadays I go by "Fenrir" or "Terror" in the things I sign up in.

My name is Nate and I've been playing Final Fantasy VII lately. I like to defend Cait Sith when people bash him. Plus Cait rhymes with Nate... It was really simple and it really didn't take all that much thought (like Cait Sith. JK). LOL.
