Well, the first time I came across this message I was in the Floating continent, fighting those clown guys that really look like Kefka. So, they use a spell (was it N. Cross or S. Cross? I can't seem to tell them apart. Besides the fact that one kills you and the other one freezes you) and one of my chars is frozen. The message appears: «You'd best be frozen!». Since those monsters were clownish, I thought they were mocking me. But as I fought other vile beasts, I discovered that this particular message appears every time you get frozen.
A simple question, guys. What the hell is «You'd best be frozen» supposed to mean? Thank you. -------------------- Snooping as usual, I see? |

Honestly, I have no idea why the programmers placed that particular message in there. I think they were trying to be funny (rather, trying to make the enemy seem nonchalant about nerfing you).
I can tell you Northern Cross inflicts 'Freeze' status and that casting a fire spell on your character will remove the condition. I hope that helps. |

Well, the status itself was never a problem for me, as it wears off fairly quickly. What upsets me is the message. Quit mocking me, stupid monster!

I also love Woolsey's work. It's got a flavor to it, and he definitely puts in the time and effort to make his work good.
Also, I think S. Cross is a fire attack, for what it's worth. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Well, that's supposed to be funny, and it's supposed to be funny and annoying. But I think it serves another purpose. It tells you that you're frozen. I don't even think there's an indicator that you're frozen, is there? -------------------- |

Personally, I always thought it was just some egotistical prick rubbing his success in my face. Which made it that much more entertaining when I smashed his face in the following round.

The frozen spell is one of the worst in the game. i've died iin many battles because they froze my characters up and i couldnt move. it happens a lot in the final 3 battles before kefka.

Quote (Sandyboots @ 30th May 2009 07:30) And have at least one character with a ribbon. Ribbons don't have freeze immunity. Nothing does. Cold Dust itself is an unblockable spell, so if it can apply the status, you're going to be frozen. N. Cross is another story since it can be blocked and is programmed to randomly miss on its own, even if it's otherwise guaranteed to hit because of Clear status. That may seem silly, but since there aren't any monsters immune to it either, the random miss factor is necessary to keep Doom Drgn Rage from being worse than NightShade (otherwise you could just Vanish/N. Cross everything without any resistance). -------------------- |

And if Cold Dust and/or N. Cross hit, do they automatically inflict freeze? This post has been edited by BlitzSage on 30th May 2009 18:46 -------------------- |

Thanks!, I stand corrected. Can it happen that all your party gets frozen on the same turn? That wouldn't be fair at all.

N. Cross and the like have a CHANCE to freeze. So yes, your whole party could freeze if it hits, but if not, a simple Fire will thaw them.

Frozen status can't be blocked, but if you have a non-frozen character, they can use a fire-elemental attack to thaw their allies. Otherwise, you have to wait (read: survive) until the timer on it expires. It lasts quite a while.
I once played with a game-genie code that let you change which spells were Strago's Lores, and I found that putting Cold Dust into the range for Lores (thus letting you freeze enemies) was one of the funnest things I found. Sure, you could just use Fallen One (which cannot miss) to take them to 1 HP, but, I dunno, freezing the enemies seemed so much funner. -------------------- Food is like magic in my ears. - Djibriel Ogopogo lives. |
