I am just giddy with excitement over the release of Lament of Innocence! The release date isn't coming fast enough! It looks gorgeous, it sounds gorgeous, and everyone says it looks like Devil May Cry. But who cares?

I just love these games! They're full of gothy goodness! happy.gif My only problem with the whole series is that there are no vampires. I mean, there's a lot of them in Castlevania 64, that's the one thing they got right in that game. (Though, I don't hate CV64, but I do think they could've done much better.) But aside from that, there are no vampires at all. I'd expect a vampire to jump out of the shadows and try to bite me. Not even Dracula does that.

Now watch, there will be no one here who likes the series... laugh.gif

I used to play them on the NES and SNES. I miss those games. They had vampires in them back then.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PSX is one of my favorite games ever. I'm really looking forward to the next installment for PS2. Personally, I hope it's more like SotN than like the one for N64, but I'm sure I'll at least rent it regardless.

Yeah! The castlevania games rock all the way! I've played most of them on NES, SNES and PlayStation. user posted image

Mostly, I prefer the "exploring" type rather than the action type, meaning that Castlevania 2 (Simon's Quest) to NES and Symphony Of The Night to PlayStation were my absolute favourites of the series. But Castlevania 1 and 3 were great as well, although number 1 was a little too hard and didn't have a very good control system. I also hate getting knocked back each time I hit an enemy, however, that applies to all Castlevania games.

But the best one is Symphony Of The Night. Everything was perfect there! The graphics were wonderful, the music was excellent, the controls were perfect and you could get so much cool stuff. Plus I really liked the idea with Familiars. My vote goes to the Demon. He's definitely the greatest. Heck, when he reaches level 99, he does more damage than I do! user posted image

I can't believe that it didn't sell very well. Nowadays it's difficult to get a hold of a copy of the game, and I bought one from the beginning! How lucky am I!

I love Castlevania, though I can only beat the ones where you can level up (i.e., Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, etc.). That doesn't mean I don't like the action games, it's just that I need a lot more practice in order to beat them up (old Castlevania is known for being hard).

early screens remind me of both dmc and vagrant story. i was a big fan of castlevania on the snes, but i never really got into any of the late ones. loi looks promising, tho (at least from the screenshots, and i'm a graphics and gameplay whore), and i might pick it up. thanx for bringing this game to my attention smile.gif

I had a good time playing Aria of Sorrow : good system, with a lot of flexibility, and different endings.
I remember playing the old NES and Gameboy first games with great pleasure, but my favorite remains the SNES episode (it's the only one I owned the cartridge; sold it afterwards though smile.gif )

I wouldn't say that. I never played the game (But I want too... so bad...really bad...) but I have heard the voice acting. Now, I don't like to complain about english dubs (see my post in the "How do you take your anime" poll.) because I know video games aren't made to be like movies or whatever... And I do appreciate the people at least trying to make anime more accessible to the english speaking masses... And I know complaining will not change it.

But this is one of those places where I will say the dubbing needs serious work. Well, some of the voices were okay. Some of the others need serious work. (Maria... maybe she was going for a romanian or french accent or something... but I know Richter is not pronounced like that.) *shruges*

The sad thing is, I love this series so much, but I only own Circle of the Moon... I'll tell you right now, if the programmers didn't put the Thunderbird summon in that, I would never make it through that game. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif That's the only thing I use during the final battle.

Gyaaaah!!! How could I forget that?! You're totally right, Charon! The English voices are horrible. That was the only thing I disliked with the game.user posted image

Aw, come on! The voice acting was fabulous! Have you ever turned Alucard into a bat, flown into a tight spot, and changed back? Is there anything in video game dubbing that could possibly beat that shocked "...what?!" when he's human again?

...

Okay, yeah, the voice acting sucked. Especially the succubus' death cry. I was embarrassed just listening to it.

castlevania was sweet. ive played the first one on nes, super castlevania 4 for snes, and castlevania adventure for GB. super castlevania was cool, the original was the best and the gb game just sucked. i beat castlevania 1 (only took me from age 5 to age 13 laugh.gif ) but it was rewarding. hell, even sega jumped on the castlevania bandwagon.

p.s. death to cactuars

hoo boy...i couldn't agree with you more there.
Castlevania SOTN is probably the best in the series..what an excellent game! And the Familars were a great idea...although I used the Fairy more XD But yea, the voice acting sucked. Badly. (I *did* like Alucard's voice....)
I also loved Simon's Quest (CV2). What an awesome game! You could fight in day and night, monsters changed abliities and stats depending on the time of day, villagers turned into zombies..what more can you ask for? XD

I refuse to put up with your obvious prejudice against cactuars! I'm gonna get the CADL (Cactuar Anti-Defamation League) all over your hiney!

...

Yeah.

I think Castlevania should have cactuars, too. That would rock. happy.gif

Those things piss me off. mad.gif If they are in a game, I hope they're a food item. *Imagines Alucard slicing a cactaur in two, grabbing one of the halves after burning the spines off and drinking the cactus water.*

Ahh, Simon's Quest. Before that game, I never knew there was such thing as a graveyard duck. biggrin.gif That's not a stab at the translation. I personally think it gives the game character. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I didn't really find any use for the fairy. Sure, she cures your bad status, but she's taking it from your item supply, so I prefer to be in control myself over my items. Or has she got any other ability? I never really leveled her up.

And the sword familiar is probably great, but I hate that thing! I refuse to use it! And who made up such a silly idea? Having a talking sword flying around! Yuck! user posted image

Anyone remember CastleVania III: Dracula's Curse. It is the only game in the series where you can switch between characters during the adventure. This function was very interesting, because it added a more strategic dimension compared to the other games.

As far as I know, the only things the fairy does are use items for you (in some cases, only items that she can use), clue you into secret doors and stuff that you might be missing, and fall off of Alucard's shoulder if you move after letting her go to sleep on it. happy.gif

I liked the Sword familiar. Sure, it was silly, but it as also dead useful. happy.gif I guess I liked the bat the most--it was so cute how it fell in love with Alucard when he became a bat, too. smile.gif

Yea, the fairy helped point out secret places if you missed them on the map. She also used healing items and protective potions (resistance to fire, for example, if you had them) whenever you needed them. But she was cool nevertheless-while i was fighting, I usually didn't notice that I needed healing, so she did it for me sleep.gif
Actually, I DO remember CV3. You could play as Alucard and..I believe Trevor?
Pure fun, but very hard(i was 6 when i first played it..), if I remember correctly..

I totally agree with you. I've played it for some time now and still haven't completed it.

The demon also does this. And it seems like all familiars do, now when I think of it.

Oh, and in Castlevania 3, you could be four characters: Trevor, Grant, Sypha and Alucard.
