I'm about to go see it in about an hour or so. Has anyone here seen it yet, or interested in seeing it? The trailers look a little cheesy, but I always say, "Don't knock it 'til you try it." Everyone has been trashing it since the trailers came out. I guess I'm just not so critical about things like this. Anyway, thoughts, comments?
Here's the trailer, in case you haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ_gVa6pAIY -------------------- Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world. -Tiddles |

i saw it. while it wasn't good...at all, it really wasn't awful. overall, id say its about a 4.5 ish. the acting is awful, but it is a bit true to the series, while simultaneously not being that true to it. its just sub par, but not brain damaging

I actually didn't think it was that bad. It seemed cheesy because the characters had next to no time to develope the story, so everything kind of ran together. Honestly though, I thought the special effects were ok.
There were things at the end that really bothered me, and I think they could have done a better job at choosing the cast but I have to say, even though it wasn't that good, it was still better than I thought it would be. -------------------- Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world. -Tiddles |

I think they strayed too far from the true anime storyline. It could've been so much more. I don't want to spoil the film for others but I thought it was mediocre at best. The good special effects didn't save the movie.

The film is made of lol. I mean, seriously, it is.
I can't really say I didn't enjoy it. I was terrible as a film and it was even worse as an adaptation, but I liked the humor and the romance. And the fight with the school thugs. -------------------- You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one... |

I expected nothing more and nothing less. It's called Evolution for a reason, so all the twists and changes didn't bother me. My only complaint was Shenron and the summoning. The sky was not that dark, there was no lightning, no strong winds, and worst of all, SHENRON DIDN'T SAY A WORD.
The movie feels incomplete, but still is somewhat entertaining. One of my female friends said it was a "cute" movie, so I guess it's okay. Let's hope Dragon Ball Z Evolution is not a "cute" movie, it has to be an "awesome" movie. Was it just me or did anyone else saw that huge explosion when Goku was looking at a dragonball? It has to be the Saiyans! Please God let it be!!! -------------------- PS3 tag: TipoDLuffy "...quite possibly the greatest game ever made" |

Completely terrible in my opinion. For anyone thinking of spending money to see this movie I recommend you save your cash and wait until they show it on TV. Probably won't take that long considering the quality of the film.
Character development is limited to Goku and the 5-10 minutes spent on his relationship with Chichi. I guess you might be able to count the 2 minutes or so spent on Bulma and Yamcha's relationship. But who really watches Dragonball for character development? I was expecting the fight scenes to be over the top or impressive, but they were pretty tame overall. None of them really had any intensity and all of them were pretty short. Even the fight with Piccolo. The fight with the high school bullies was lame. The special effects were average, but nothing special. The use of slow-mo was excessive. And it did kind of irk me how unimpressive Shenron and Oozaru were. With all that said, I do recommend seeing this movie if you can see it for free. Just to get a kick out of how bad it is. I'm just lucky I had something to occupy me during the movie. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Quote (TlockhartV1 @ 20th April 2009 14:36) they basiccly made goku into teen gohan and made him life his high school life rest is like DEVELOP THE CHARACTERS My biggest problem was that the wrecked Goku's character. No, I'm not talking about how much change there was as far as him going to school and not being a kid and all. I'm talking about Possible spoilers: highlight to view the fact that the character, Goku, in the series was a prodigy all throughout his life. He did the Kamehameha without effort the first time, and wowed those who were around him. All the way through the series he always one upped everyone. That was the struggle between Goku and Vegeta. No matter how hard everyone tried, he was always at least one step ahead of them in terms of skill; Even the "prince of all Saiyans." In the movie Goku kind of struggled along barely getting by when it came to skill. He tried and tried to get things right, and always ended up doing something wrong. He didn't get anything right until Chi-Chi threw down some sex appeal on him. So, I just feel like it wasn't the same Goku. A lot of the other stuff didn't bother me so much, as I expected the movie to bomb, but man, they could have at least got the character projection right for the main character. Also about Goku's character that they screwed up was his attitude toward things. Unlike in the movie Goku has a happy-go-lucky attitude and at least acts like a simpleton. He wouldn't get all angsty about not fitting in.
But then again, he would probably hold more respect with his peers than the movie version Goku because he wouldn't be so reserved about letting people see how strong he is. At least they got the part right about Goku not beating someone up just because they were being a jerk to him. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

He was a whiner in the movie, and the only reason he didn't beat up the people picking on him was because he promised his grandfather he wouldn't. He wanted to though, really bad. So bad that Possible spoilers: highlight to view he found a way to beat them up without breaking his promise. Quote (Rujuken @ 27th April 2009 09:48) At least they got the part right about Goku not beating someone up just because they were being a jerk to him. Me and a friend were talking about this and thought that even this was a little out of character. Because Goku is so naive, he was saying that the situation probably would have played out more like this in the cartoon Quote Jock: Come on, let me have it. Goku: Are you sure? It's gonna hurt! Jock: Do it wuss! Goku: Okaayy...but I warned you *punch* *Jock flies across the yard and runs into a wall crushing it* and goku laughs and says: "I told you you wouldn't like it!" Can't take credit for writing that, but I would totally agree with him. There were cool parts to this movie and a lot of really small throwbacks to the series but they just completely failed to capture the overall feel of the series and mentalities of the characters (with the possible exception of piccolo). I dunno, I definitely won't be buying it but it wasn't a waste of 9 dollars to see it. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. I really felt this way too. Sitting through this movie brings on a really weird feeling. It's like, one minute it really feels like Dragon Ball and then all of a sudden it feels like something totally different. It goes back and forth and back and forth until the experience is kind of stale. Even though I was trying really hard to see this Dragon Ball in it I just couldn't 100% of the time. Honestly, I think the fact that it went back and forth like that is worse than just being different altogether. -------------------- Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world. -Tiddles |

It wasn't as horrible as I had thought it would be going into it. But, that said, it was not good.
