Final Fantasy VII International was released on the Japanese Playstation Network Store yesterday as downloadable content for PS3 and PSP devices. The asking price is 1500 yen, or about $15.
A lot of people having been talking about whether this one would actually happen or not. I'm surprised to see it did, and would now expect a US store release will follow suit in upcoming months. Source: Japan Playstation Store This post has been edited by Phoenix on 10th April 2009 18:31 |

Question: is there a list of games that can be gotten on playstation network? I have a PS3 but not the internet connection, otherwise I would just go on and check it out for myself. Any of the other FF's or squenix games?

There are a few other Square releases, but so far Square has been releasing almost exclusively for the Japan store. The ones that come most immediately to mind are the Front Mission series (at least four or five titles), Xenogears, and a couple of those Chocobo Dungeon/Racing spin-off titles. There are no other retro Final Fantasy titles in the store.
Since Square made the jump to offering FFVII as downloadable content over there, and considering the massive popularity FFVII had in the US, I don't see any reason why they would refrain from eventually releasing the game in all regional stores. That said, Square sure isn't leaking any timelines for anyone; the FFVII release came out of nowhere and in the face of plenty of people who said, "It'll never happen." Wikipedia keeps lists of games on all of the regional stores, though they are not always immediately up to date. Any of the other FF's or squenix games? they have a lot of games in there, notably (for me) the first three crash bandicoots, spyro the dragon (bought this. its nice to re-live your childhood), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (friend got this for me, and good lord it is epic) and the like. they have a few gems here and there, but i haven't really wanted to get any of them -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the states did NOT get this. Mainly because the translation/localization was so shoddy, whereas in its native language that's not a problem. If it were released as downloadable content here it would look like the third-rate work it is. Nothing against the translators and localizers, but it was rushed too much to be of quality.

Thanks for the list Phoenix. I would like to have the Front Mission games.
I wonder what other FFs they may consider releasing. I wouldn't be surprised if it was limited to Japan. But here's hoping I'm wrong! -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |
