Is there a way to make characters learn limits faster? Does anyone know what actually causes them to learn new ones, or if anything might be preventing it? I assume it's based on either how many times you've used current ones or how many enemies you've defeated with it, but i don't really know. The thing is, I have the item for Nanaki's limit 4 but he doesn't have his second limit 3 yet. He's had his first limit 3 for about 20 levels at least, and it's driving me crazy that he won't learn his next. I suspect that it may have had to do with my keeping him on limit 2 'cause I hate losing control of characters, but I've been using the stupid howling moon for a while now and if there's any way to speed it up I really want to know. This seems to happen to me on every file with one character or another, usually Tifa.

having his final weapon on doesn't affect anything, does it?

Learning limits depends on two factors: how many times you use limits and how many enemies you kill (by any means). Here is CoN's section on Cloud's limit breaks. If Cloud has, say, Braver, Cross Slash, and Blade Beam learned, then the next Limit he'll learn will be either Climhazzard or Meteorain. If he uses Blade Beam seven times before killing 320 enemies, he learns Climhazzard next. If the opposite happens, he learns Meteorain next. All limit breaks work that way except for Cait Sith (who has only two Limits) and Vincent (who only gains new limits from slaying enemies).

Thanks, it didn't take long from there to find Nanaki's. All I gotta do is use the howling moon 4 more times. If I'd know that i wouldn't have left him set on stardust ray for so long. I wish I'd found this site sooner!

Bleh, spent 2 days trying to get cosmo memory only to find out it sucks, one single max hit. Nanaki does twice as much with his doublecut melee attack. Spent 2 hours trying to get 4x hit on cloud and never actually used it cause Sephiroth is too much of a weakling pushover. One doubled hit from Nanaki, one Omnislash that I'd been saving through the last 20 minutes of training and he's done. Took longer to beat the last Jenova, but that's only cause I did it on only Barret's and Nanaki's melee attacks to save Omnislash.

Look, I'm happy for your enthusiasm, but please just use the edit function instead of posting several times in a row. It's even in the rules.

Sorry, it didn't occur to me. I've never really used a forum like this before, I guess I was thinking of it more in the context of a chat room, I didn't think posting like that would be a problem. I admit I didn't really read the rules, I didn't figure it would be anything more than the expected no swearing, advertising, sexual content, abuse, yada yada that sort of thing. I've read it now.

I've found the Mythril Mines to be a really good place to fight multiple enemies in a single battle. Giving a character Enemy-Skill and having them wipe out entire enemy groups with a single casting of Matra Magic helps rack up a character's enemy kill count really quickly.

Can you hear it breathing?

I use the forests right outside of there on the way to Junon. There's an area where you only run into Capparwires and sometimes Blue Narciss(?) (two to five at a time). Not only do they die easily, but the capparwires do great damage to get your gauge up quickly.

Also, I am of the opinion that Stardust Ray is Red XIII's "best" limit break in terms of raw damage.

I always used the Mithril Mines and outside of Corel for learning limit breaks. The flying enemies outside Corel deal good damage to get the limit gauge up.

I always wait until the end of the game to learn limits. I like fighting around Mideel, as the scorpion enemies come in groups of four and deal decent damage, especially when the character has cover materia and fury status.
