For those who don't proclaim themselves "otaku" or whatever appropriated Japanese term is de rigueur these days, you've probably never had a chance to play Dragon Quest V. The original was released only in Japan (of course), for the Super Famicom and later in a remake for Playstation 2, but never off the islands of Japan.
No longer, though; as of today, you can get this game for your Nintendo DS in the US (Friday in the EU), with the enhanced 3D of the PS2 remake, but with an additional character as well. Not only that, if you're a member of the Square-Enix blog, there's also a bunch of e-tchotchkes released today as well. This release means that every Dragon Quest game but VI has been released in the United States now; DQ6 is in development at this time but has no official release planned for Japan, the US, or the EU at this time. Pick up your copy of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride from AmaCoN: Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (US) Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (UK/EU) Sources: Square-Enix Members Wikipedia -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

!!! Seriously? I've played this game for the SNES, and I loved it. I hope the remake lives up to the original...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Unfortunately I never finished the original because I couldn't choose who to marry... |

Possible spoilers: highlight to view The new version gives you a third option for marriage, the new character I mentioned above. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Well, I played it for about 8 or 9 hours yesterday, and I'm right before the marriage option. I probably could have gotten there sooner, but I spent awhile grinding to get a Healslime to join my party. Here's a breakdown of the marriage decision that I have to make soon:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Bianca: blonde childhood friend, joins at a pretty high level, average battle skills Nera: blue-haired nice rich girl, joins at a low level, really good magic spell selection Debora: black-haired mean rich girl, joins at a low level, decent physical fighter but bad at magic The new translation is good, but the accents are a little forced, especially Sancho's, which makes him sound like the Frito Bandito or something. Visually, the game looks fantastic and plays wonderfully. -------------------- |

Possible spoilers: highlight to view Interesting with the new girl, Debora... Though I'm leaning a bit towards choosing Fiora-, err, I mean Nera.. Or maybe I'll choose Debora.. I really hate deciding things <_> |
