I've always wondered why chocobos are such a convenient form of transportation when they have trains and airships, wouldnt they have cars with the on set of those?

I actually once thought about that myself. Wheeled, track-free transit might be in its infancy in the FF6 world. There is the Tunnel Armor, a vehicle on wheels that is not confined to tracks. Maybe the Empire had autos in the works before they went fully to work on Magitek.

And on the subject of trains, why is Cyan such a klutz with the train machinery when it's part of his own country? If Doma is technophobic (as Cyan's ineptitude on the phantom train would suggest) why do they possess the world's only train system (excluding the local underground rails below Vector?)

i dont think the whole country is technophobic, i think it's just him. some people are just bad with machines, my mom grew up in a time when TV and such was in its infancy and she still cant program her satalite to save her life. It's reasonable to assume then that he is also just not very tech savy. i also think its partly to counter the noble edger in the fact that he can use just about any machine know to man with great ease. two nobles, different skills.

This is really dumb but since I do fanart, it always aggravates me and confuses me to see inconsistencies in clothing. For instance, Relm's hat is blue in the profile picture but red in game, and in every piece of 'official art' you'll see Celes in some Westernish looking Spandex yellow thing, but her sprite's wearing a one piece and a cape. I don't know how to draw them so I make it up sad.gif(

This is more general video games, but the whole, I can tour the world in three seconds thing always makes me laugh. It takes several hours to fly across like, Texas in a plane.

Two random thoughts whilst playing the game...

Setzer SERIOUSLY has a gambling problem. I'm amazed he manages to pay for his airship and such.
Mind you, if he's a good gambler, he wouldn't have a problem

and how many bottles of cider does that old man like to drink????
I swear, when I had no idea where to go, I went into that one room about 30 times, and the cider just kept coming.

i always thought that he was a great gambler, because he's apparently famous.

i've always wondered, he must've been the richest of the FFVI Team. (other than Edgar, cause he's a king). but he had a freaking flying casino!

Setzer himself said that the Empire made him a very rich man. It doesnt really say what dealing he had with the Empire, but he seemed very pro-Vector when we first meet him in the game.

thats true. the scene i was refering to was with the opera impressario, where he seems astonished that they had not heard of him.

i guess that if he is famous and the only flyer in the world, the empire was very aware of him.

I've always wondered why there are Cure Staves.

I still haven't figured out how one actually works. Seems like every time I try to use it, I wind up hurting my already-injured character. Kinda the opposite of what I wanted to do, really.

(Or maybe not, if I want to get a desperation attack...) biggrin.gif

You mean as in a Heal Rod? Any time I have Strago in my party I give him the Heal Rod and let him attack my party members. His normal attacks are so weak there's no reason to let him fight anyways. If I need him to attack I use magic or equip him with a strong esper.

Ohhhhh, okay. That does make sense. Sweet, now I can save his MP for casting Grand Train. thumbup.gif

Something that's really subtle but always pops up when I play FFVI with someone unfamiliar with the game is (of all things) Figaro's chancellor. Everyone always assumes that since Edgar's gone, the chancellor is going to make a power grab or something and we'll have to take the party back to Figaro and reclaim the kingdom. Personally, I really like the fact that this scenario doesn't happen.

Also, I always wondered what would happen if Cyan had jumped back onto the Phantom Train after he saw his family. (Aside from the lack of samurai awesome, of course.)

The end of the Phantom Train scenario creeps me out. Reminds me of something that would've given me nightmares as a young child. Pretty much the whole concept of the Phantom Train makes me feel nervous. I wonder what inspired the idea?

One thing I've always wondered is why most of the are white people. Considering it's a Japanese game, why aren't the majority of characters Asian? Why is there no token black guy? Strago couldn't have been an old black man? Then if they ever made a live action movie of FF6 it would be one more role for Samuel L. Jackson. I'd personally cast Morgan Freeman, but that's just me.

Actally General Leo had significantly darker skin that the others, at least his menu pic did.

its quite odd this came up in another forum about Star Wars.

im sure they didnt mean to discriminate, but i do guess you are right. i suppose that there arent different races in FFVI.

Would it have been racist to make the Veldt seem like Africa? Gau could've been black. I know there are still native tribes in small villages there and such. Everyone in Mobliz could've been black and lived in huts.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. But a little racial diversity couldn't have hurt anything.

Well, to further reiterate what I said, I don't think there are different races.

If you seriously analyze it, the world of Final Fantasy VI is much smaller than Earth, and has essentially the same climate all around. There doesn't seem to be any reason for different races.

I just thought it would be pretty random to mention FFVIII in ....It was an ill-attempted joke. Nevermind...

He knew all along. That's why Leo got called back to Vector to let Kefka get on with it. Dirty bastard.

At the banquet however, I think we just assume one of his soldiers tells him about it.

What I've been wondering is how they could pronounce eachothers names so easily. I mean: GAU - how the hell are you meant to say that? G-wow? G-uy? G-ay? G-oo? dry.gif

That makes sense, but I always thought Kefka faked that, or he was just lucky.

I was just in the Fanatic's Tower, and I asked myself, how the heck does the Cult of Kefka live in this thing? Do they camp outside the tower, or what? I'm sure it's not safe to live in a tower inhabited by monsters that cast Meteor. sleep.gif

And then, I went to Jidoor, and had a grand time in the Auction House. The grandfather and his grandson in the front row - they crack me up. I just find it hilarious, how that they will never run out of money.

I did seriously try to win the Imp Robot though.

I was the only one in my class to ace a spelling test one time because Ultros used the term 'taciturn'. All I could think was "HA! Who says video games aren't educational?"

Is there someone that goes around in the WoR replacing stuff in the treasure chests with better stuff, but ONLY if you didn't already open them?

They specify gunpowder has been rediscovered about ten seconds into the game.....why are there no guns......at all?

Why do the magitek armor drivers just stand there and let Edgar and Locke go on and on about how amazing it is that Terra can use magic?

Why is Umaro level 33 with 17,200 HP when I fight him, but when he joins he's on a comparable level to the rest of my party and has an HP cap of 9999?

Even worse, if you already ate one, like right before you killed Kefka, it would probably disappear right out of your stomach and you'd instantly be hungry again. Unless, of course, that sandwich was really attached to someone or something in this world...
