Ok im assuming that there was/or still is a post like this one but i'll test my luck and try anyway...
 I would like to know whats your favorite spell, animation for the spell, and why from all the FF's you've played  My favorite is Flare, with the FFT animation, The reason that it's a none elemental move and looks cool  thx oh forgive any spelling mistakes thx  -------------------- "Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it Bings" What you call dog with no legs? I guess I gotta go with Big Guard/Mighty Guard/Guardian. Hard to argue with haste, protect, and shell on all of your party members at once. It's a lot harder to choose based on looks though, there have been so many cool ones.

I would probably have to go with... tough choice... Holy. I've just always thought it seemed awesome. You know, Holy attack, devine retribution type thing... it's cool, right? I'm not just weird... right?

In the black magic department I've always liked Meteor for it's impact on FFIV's story (Tellah!) but I always like when I get Raise/life so I won't have to worry about wasting my phoenix downs.

It would have to be Ultimaga. It's the strongest spell ever! I totally beat 4 bosses in 5 games with it. It was pretty bomb.
[/stupidity] Dark Shock from FF5. Any form of an ice spell. The idea of killing someone with frostbite and/or extreme cold? It's cooler than anything else.

Fire3, because I always imagine this huge and complex animation where the character summons this giant swirling ball of fire and just launches it directly at the enemy, charring him to pieces... Although I can't recall that ever happening...

Either the surprise boom of Bolt 3, or the growing fear of Ultima. I also like Merton from Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES.

I really liked FFVII's Aqualung animation-wise. I really like Dragon/Mist from FFiv for usefulness.

I've always had a thing for electricity, so I love the "bolt" and "thunder" spells. My favorite is probably "Bolt 3" from VII, but only when you have the all materia equipped and there is actually more than one enemy on the screen. It has a better after effect than when there is just a single enemy.

As a healing fan... i'd have to say Renew, Curaga, Holy, FFT's Esuna, Haste, Reraise/Auto-Life, and all Water-elemental spells (not ice) because it just feels nice to wash away your enemies =P "Rinse, Repeat" ^^

There are so many to choose from.
My favourite is probably Ultima from FFIX. You can't get it for any playable characters, Kuja needs to be in a Trance to use it, and he destroys an entire world with it! I like how it looks the same in battle as it does in the FMV. I like Meteor and Holy in FFVII for similar reasons, but I wouldn't really count them as spells in this topic. I always want what I can't get... apparently this is normal. Ultima from FFVII. The camera angles are very cool. Meltdown in FFVIII maybe? Zell looks quite deadly when he fires it from his palm. Shadow Flare in FFVII. Powerful and very satisfying. Not too long either. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. I've always been a fan of the time magics (When they work). When you nail someone with Stop, you know you got it made from then on out.
For just appearance wise, I would go with Ultima or Luminaire from Chrono Trigger. Which is kinda like that games Ultima. -------------------- |

Use wise, I'd have to go with Big Guard, and I like the FFVII version. Animation wise, I love the look of Holy in FFT; that calming beam of light then that sudden explosive boom and pummeling impact of divinity.

I'm gonna go with Holy in FFT because I love to calculate holy on an entire battlefield and just watch the enemies be torn asunder by the holy light of God. . . ironic since your party is a bunch of heretics, and that just adds to the awesomeness. The animation for the spell is just great as well. It reminds me of the satellite beam in the movie Akira.
