Super mario RPG just came onto the VC on labor...who ISNT excited to see this game would be the more appropriate question, because too many people love this game, hehe.
I wanted to hear others experiences with this game back on SNES days, and whether just maybe this could spark ideas for a future SMRPG2...ya never know, cuz i can see the possibility (along with Sonic 4 and Super mario world 3 from Mega man 9) I personally loved the game, and like all others, wished Geno was on SSBB PS: was there a green coin hidden above a doorway in toad town castle that you can only get by jumping off a toadf's head...got this idea from rumour... -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. I don't know if it was a green coin, but there was a hidden chest in the castle in Mushroom Kingdom that you could only get on your first visit by jumping on Toad's head as he walks towards the throne room. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? Shouldn't this be in General Squenix? Europe got this game about two weeks ago, while the US just got it on Monday.
And honestly, SMRPG 2 doesn't need to happen, because the SMRPG legacy lives on in two forms - first in the three Paper Mario games and second in the Mario & Luigi games. The former was made by an in-house Nintendo team following up the success of Mario's original RPG adventure, and the latter was made by former SMRPG staff that had gone on to form their own independent game company. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga has the same writer, director, and music composer as SMRPG. All five games of those two series share SMRPG's offbeat humor, colorful world designs, and shared gameplay elements of platforming combined with turn-based combat featuring timed hits (except for Super Paper Mario, which isn't quite an RPG). But yeah, enough technical talk and dream crushing. SMRPG's great. My only real regret about that game is that I never got the Super Suit. Attack Scarf yes, but Super Suit no. My favorite team was Mario/Princess/Geno, but I could substitute around based on my mood and what boss I was fighting. Downloaded it on Monday at 9 AM. Beat it yesterday. I was very excited.
The really sad thing is, my brother and I finally caved and bought the cartridge like 3 weeks ago for like $20 (AMAZING FIND!), so I beat it before I moved in to my dorm here at school. That did not stop me at all from downloading it immediately and beating it in two days with a full course load. Also, Neal is right. That was a frog coin in Mushroom Kingdom. There's also a hidden chest in the far right corner of the bottom floor of the item shop which you can get by standing on the head of the guy down there and jumping. I think I got every hidden chest in my last play through but I'm not positive. Lasz, I have never gotten either the Super Suit or the Attack Scarf. I got 29 jumps one time but then I blinked and lost my rhythm. I was never motivated enough to try again, especially since Mario was the healer on my team. I used Bowser, Geno, and Mario for the first play through and Mario, Mallow, and Geno for the second. Even with the Lazy Shell, I preferred the other characters. I agree that there should be no sequel. This game is too good and legendary to risk spoiling through a sequel. They should focus their efforts on making another Actraiser game and more 8-bit Mega Man games instead. -------------------- Is PJ |

He's an okay character, with good defense, okay damage specials, and the best weapon in the game, but Geno's speed and attack, Princess's healing and specials, and Bowser's defense and attack would have made the best team in the game, IMO. I guess they couldn't manage without Mario in the lead for all those platforming sequences. -------------------- |

I guess they couldn't manage without Mario in the lead for all those platforming sequences. I completely agree that that team would be incredible. Geno and Bowser together is really unfair, in my opinion. Geno Boost gives such a huge bonus to attack and defense for Bowser. Plus, Geno Whirl can kill Exor in a single hit. First time I played, I picked up the Experience Booster in Seaside Town (I had 25 Frog Coins at the time; I know it is possible to get many more, so 22 shouldn't be a big issue) before I went into the Sea. Bowser gained so many levels it was unreal. I think by the time I fought Johnny, Mario and Geno were level 13 and Bowser was like 17. After a Geno Boost he was just crushing things. Healing is not even an issue, really, since you can buy heal-all items (Froggie Drink, Elixer, Megalixer, and KerokeroCola) from the Juice Bar in Tadpole Pond after you help Toadofsky. That's how I beat Yaridovich without Peach or Mallow in my team. But yes, regardless I think it would be much better if Mario could have substituted out. I would likely use Bowser, Geno, and Mallow FTW, and stick with Elixers and KerokeroColas for healing like I have been. -------------------- Is PJ |

For a team reply, i would defenately use Geno/Bowser//Mallow (dont quite remember why i used mallow...i think i liked some of his specials).
I never used peach, and for some reason i always thought she was extremely useless. This may have been due to NHEVER leveling her up, hehe. Yeah, i can see the whole reasoning behind no SMRPG2 and how it still lives on today. Glad this gem got released, and yes...i am going to buy the cartridge too. A local store still sells games as early as commodore64, atari, and colecovision, and they have maybe 3 or 4 SMRPG's! By the way...who else saw Booster for the first time and thought "Wario", cuz thats what happened here with me. As soon as I saw it on the shopping channel, I freaked out. That game is like the best game on the SNES! Now, I just need to go get some points to buy it with...
My favourite team was Mario/Mallow/Geno. I don't know why, but I always gravitate towards the original team in games. What I think is funny is that this game came out when I was too young to really understand it, so I could never get past the part where you chase Croco around the bushes or whatever. I could never catch him! I finally downloaded the ROM a few years back and I beat it to death. Unfortunately, now it won't keep a save, but it was fun while it lasted. My favourite characters are the Axem Rangers. They are very.... entertaining. I also like Geno too, I named my cat after him. -------------------- Why, hello guys! I missed the attack scarf and super suit. I was never able to get more than 17-ish jumps, I tried and failed so I moved on.
I played it a lot when I was a kid and just replayed it this summer, took me 3 days to beat. I used to be a level fiend but I didn't bother doing most of the side quests this time around, like the tadpole and and collecting all the chests. I did that when I was young and didn't feel like spending too much time on it. I found a need little trick for raising levels fast without the ring. There is a dry-bones in the sunken ship under a staircase that re-spawns after the encounter. 2 dry-bones, 2 ghosts and one of those zombies behind the tombstone. Using Mallow's thunderbolt with the critical (hit Y or B just before the barrage ends) and the fight is over, providing you juiced his MA some during the level bonuses. -------------------- Yeah, I barely post. |

I think there should be a true to the first game sequel by Nintendo and Square Enix. Even though I liked the 1st Paper Mario. Never got a chance to play the latter games though. But I think Geno and Mallow should return Geno with his traditional gun on right arm and sword on left. Mallow could have more specials and My dream girls fighting side by side Peach and Daisy and why not give Luigi a chance to shine and maybe Yoshi and double specials! Kind of like Chrono Trigger but no triples that would go too far and even though Bowser was one of my favorites make him one of three bad guys Bowser,Smithy and Wart from SMB2 and either expand the team to 4 or make it where Mario isn't always in the party but to keep it real I say put 4 in a party and make it retro where it looks like the original SMRPG and it could be called let me think ummm....... SMRPG The Dark Trio of Doom
