Well, I'm nearly done with FFIV (first playthrough) and I have to for the most part agree with those who said it's a lot tougher than the SNES version (and GBA). Both the regular enemies and bosses are generally harder to beat. It's not a cakewalk anymore for someone who has been playing this since it first came out. I tried five separate times to beat Dr. Lugae and more than awhile in the Giant of Babil fighting with the CPU
I did find however that there is a bit of a divide now with the battles. Something's amiss when on the moon I keep dying from Red Dragons and I handed both Bahamut's and Dark Bahamut's rear to them. I first noticed this when I was in the Tower of Zot. I was having to really fight to keep my party alive then I faced the Magus Sisters. Pretty sure my reaction was I mopped the floor with them. Anyone else have thoughts on the battles? -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

Not much I can say, since I'm stuck on dr Lugae and can't beat him for two weeks and counting.

I had to use two Elixers and a cast of Curaga to kill Dr. Lugae. He was a pain.
And yes, everything's harder, and the degree of difficulty changes a great deal. I found Leviathan about as difficult as usual (you have to just stay on the attack before he wipes you out with two Tsunami attacks in a row), but Asura was tougher because she can counterattack you to kingdom come. I'm still stuck on the Path to the Core. Every time I'm about to hit that save point I get ambushed by multiple dragons or back attacked by sorcerors or something. I put the game down about a week ago and played some Diablo II, in anticipation of all the grinding I'll be doing in Dragon Quest IV next week. -------------------- |

Valvalis was hell due to her counter attack elemental spells and weapons
Also, where is this Dark Bahamut you speak of? |

Dark Bahamut guards Ragnarok in the path to the core (or what used to be called the Crystal Sword).
I did find the moon to be much more difficult then it used to be. I was lucky though. On the surface of the moon, I got my Rainbow pudding, and went back and finished the sidequest to get the safe travel augment. I agree with most though. Phoenix is the only reason I was even able to kinda survive on the moon, and the Red/Blue dragons are harder then even the optional bosses to get the weapons. Once I got the Safe Travel augment, it was on me untill I got to Zeromus (I actually gained about 8 levels trying to get a stupid Pink Tail, which never dropped even after 8 hours of doing it) -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

Yeah, I agree with most of what's said above: Lugae is very difficult now, and the red dragons (and to a lesser extent, the blue dragons) are almost harder than Zeromus himself, who I found to be no more difficult than his earlier incarnations.
And Phoenix is almost broken - I had it on Kain, who could usually jump his way towards sticking around until the other four were down, then BAM! back in business, and with an Arise and an ether, ready to go again. -------------------- I hear the jury's still out on...science.
