I know a lot of you love using the same character classes/skill sets/equip setups time and time again, so I thought I'd start a new topic dedicated to what gets you exited when playing through FFT. This can be scenario-related (i.e., I love using a female monk equipped with a ribbon, steal when fighting Elmdor to steal Genji equipment), or just your best character setup that you use throughout the game.
I will start off by saying I personally love calculators, not the actual class, but a Wizard equipped with math skills. Between using thief hats and black costumes, ribbons, chameleon robes, excaliburs, etc, I can defend myself from various status anomalies or holy attacks while damaging the enemy (or inflicting status ailment). I use these tactics throughout the game. You would think it's insane to fully magic-train a character, then put them in the slowest class conceivable, just to learn variable parameters for casting the magic you already have, but when it's cast instantly, and without MP, you have a magic user who never has to advance, never runs out of MP, and basically can terminate anything on the map (or disable it for leveling, stealing, etc) without having to move into position, waste a valuable slot for short charge (when it should be Magic Atk UP!) I even make Beowulf into a super-calculator, with his main job class (Temple Knight), math skill, teleport, and an excalibur. You can put him in any battle by himself. Nasty speed, attack all enemies and himself at once (with CT/5 Holy the excalibur absorbs Holy and if used at the start of battle, CT/5 will hit everybody ) He practically clears a board on his first turn!
Let's hear what crazy skills y'all got!

Edit: Yeah, calculators are a bit over-powered compared to everything else. But who doesn't love dominating the enemy so completely that they can't even land a hit? Aren't you just doing your job well insomuch as having the facilities to exploit the greatest advantages (and this is a far cry from using cheats or even splitting swords-- if you play straight-up). When I'm slogging through deep dungeon they can't even make me sweat. I've never even heard from fellow FFT enthusiasts that they've tried making a team of Knights, all equipped with excaliburs, and a few of them calculators, so you can repeatedly (and with maniacal laughter) launch Holy after Holy bombardment on as many targets as you can calculate. Am I alone on this one? I thought it was genius.

Hmm, while i acknowledge the power of Math Skill, i have grown to hate it more and more. Ever since i attained all the math parameters (along with Orlandu), the game has become incredibly easy.

It would be more interesting if there was actually a challenge suited to match the power of "super-parties", but there are none. Enemy calculators or faster bosses heck even clever fixed xp - ct - level - height values in the beginning of a fight to counter calculators would fix this problem, i think smile.gif...

ANYWAY, for my favourite class id have to go with Chemists. Not because they're very powerful or anything (though their ability to use guns can make them versatile), i just like the idea of chubby men running around on the battlefield throwing medicine at everyone smile.gif...

i always like to keep most of my people as knights when i play the game, initially i might fight against random battles and against myself to learn other abilities like black or white magic, but for proper battles, i always send a elite group of knights to the slaughter, mwa ha ha.

plus the knight looks so cool! but for one of my people i normally make him the knight blade person (don't remember his name) but he has brown medium length hair and a cool green design. smile.gif and the fact you can get it so early in the game is a plus for my liking of them.

My favourite class is the time mage. It's too fun stopping an enemy and casting meteor on them. As a support character they help your group, and raising their faith to the low nineties makes the spells work with great frequency.

Wizard with Draw Out. Wizards have the highest MA in the game, and Draw Out attacks ignore Faith, always hit, do solid damage, have great buff/debuff effects, have no charge time, and differentiate between ally and enemy. It's my favorite skillset.

There are a lot of good classes, but I like knights and samurai best. Knights for their high hp and breaking ability, and Samurai because of their draw out and support skills.

I, too, think Knights are the coolest job class. I also really like Laszlow's Black Mage with Draw Out combination.

I'm in the process of building up a Summoner with Math Skill. I have a fondness for the all-powerful spellcasters because like this thread's creator stated, Math Skills are very effective, however, I'd give him Swiftness support ability for the higher-tier Espers in addition to Teleport as his movement ability. As far as accessories go, I'm torn between the one that boosts all elemental attacks in addition to some status defenses or the Magic Gauntlet.

Nice to hear I've got a convert, Fabulous. I do so love to use one of those after I've learned Elidibs' summon, Zodiac. And you're right, having Short charge is a must to making their summons useful (or swiftness if that's what it's called in the other version). I would suggest a wizards rod and a flash hat for starters, maybe a chameleon robe for it's absorb holy feature, or a black costume to avoid stop (a ribbon on a female calculator is best for negating status effects), and I like using red shoes to make teleporting more effective, as well as the extra MA +1 (again, if you are using a female character, using a Steimson for auto-haste can be fun, too. Heck, you could even go the chantage route and auto-regen, auto raise if you think that you're enemy has even a remote chance of hitting you). Send another magic user like Beowulf to cast faith on this mighty Summoner, and rain down magic death!

I change this setup a bit for my Math Skilling Knights, usually skipping any decent armor for a Mage's robe (MA +2), magic gauntlet, excalibur, etc. The key being to get their MA as high as possible.

With you there thumbup.gif Monks are favorite class since they have both offense and support moves

When I make Math Skilling nukers, I never do them with a Summoner. For a few reasons - A) Short Charge is important for Summoners, as you mentioned, but that also removes the opportunity to give them the MA Up support skill, which ups magic damage by 25%; cool.gif Summons cost large chunks of MP, and if you want to make them useful at all for long battles, you'll want them to either have Item as a secondary or MP-restoring support from a teammate. Now, I'm aware that Math Skill doesn't have casting times or require MP, but why would you put it on a Summoner instead of a Wizard/BM when Wizards have better MA and aren't hamstrung by Short Charge or MP limitations? I'd just forget the secondary and go with the class that maximizes MA.

But alas, I've given up on Math Skill recently, because it makes the game too easy. Also, most Math Skill spells require high Faith, and when I try to win versus matches on the PSP version I usually play low-Faith teams just to make my opponent's magic users useless.

Right? Like I said in the original post, Wizards are indeed the best for this. I encourage people to find their own variations, as any math skill "nuker" will tend to dominate. As for making the game too easy, well, I thought FFT was all too easy to begin with. The fact that it is possible to beat the game with Ramza by himself (which is insanely hard) is an indication that this is not a difficult game, really. If you're into making the game more difficult, why don't you try "legendary mode," or gamesharking your enemies up to 99 level. Now that's rough.

I like that Wizard/Draw out combo, though. I'm gonna have to go play with that for a bit. I usually have Ramza or Orlandu with Draw out, but that just seems like an interesting bit of versatility with your wizard.

I got my arse kicked in this game hard, repeatedly, Weigraf as a demon, Gafgarion, the Fat priest Demon, Meliadoul, Argus (That A-hole), all of them hard bosses, yes, you can level up to 99 in one fight, and master any class in one fight, but what is the sport in that?

If playing first time though, and if your like me and don't even touch a walktrhough for your first playthrough, you can find this game VERY challenging.

And every Final Fantasy usually has an uber nuke, KotR anyone?

Edit
Also, my favorite Class actually would have to be
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
SOLDIER for my FF7 Fandom (I always give Cloud Samurai 2-handed thing cuz I like knowing Cloud don't have a shield)

I go for Dancers. they have good-range debuffs (even though they don't always hit) and because i like the idea of someone dancing on the middle of a battlefield causing the foes to wither bit by bit while everyone else's fighting like heck tongue.gif I like Summoners too, because they run around calling spirits with a red horn on their foreheads :3

Wizard's with Draw Out destroy anything that comes within three miles of them.

I also really enjoy Oracles. Gimping the enemy and then slapping them upside the head with a stick is rather enjoyable.
