i ran into a lone knight who was a guest, he was one panel away from a Minitaurus... they were the only ones there this seemed extremely awkward to me, please let me know if this has ever happened to you... please.

Let me guess... Zeklaus Desert, right?
There are a few battles like this, where you will encounter random guests who are beset by monsters. I've seen that battle in the desert, and a battle on Mandalia Plains with a random chocobo guest and a bunch of enemy monsters. I don't recall encountering any others at other locations, though. |

Please don't double-post, there's no need to do it two minutes apart.
The presence of that battle on that map is rare, but there's nothing stopping it from happening any time you enter the map from the South.
