Who else wonders what kind of stats and skillset Balbanes/Barbaneth must've had in his Heavenly Knight/ Knight Gallant job? I bet that dude was off the hook.

I've always wondered just how powerful and important Sir Balbanes was. I imagine him as powerful or more so than T.G. Cid who is waaaay too powerful. Heavenly Knight and all, and a hero of the 100 year war. Does anyone know if they provide additional info on him in the PSP version not on the PSX version? If so, could you spoil it for me please as I doubt I'll get me a PSP anytime soon.

As a matter of fact, the PSP version shares no more information on the Beoulve patriarch than the original. His skills/abilities and whatnot was debated in this very forum quite a while ago, and if I remember correctly, the majority (and yours truly) believe he was not too dissimilar from Orlandu.

I'd guess that it's just like Orlandu's, except with the Ruin abilites, and maybe no Night Sword or Dark Sword.
...In other news, I thought this was about Ramza's PA stat. -------------------- "The Lord Bob Bree is my shepherd, I shall not want; He makes me post in Scenario topics. He leads me beside GameFOX; He restores my karma. He leads me in paths of moderation for His name's sake." -Nick of Five |

It says that heavanly night was the highest rank obtainable. So yes I've always really wondered... too bad he was poisoned so we didn't get to see what he was capable of!

So yes I've always really wondered... too bad he was poisoned so we didn't get to see what he was capable of! this is true. in the begining of the game (before he dies) it narrates that he had obtained the highest rank, heavenly knight. my opinion, is that he would have had a balance between attack and m. attack and generally low speed. he was an older knight than most others. therefore he was PROBABLY very wise. thus the m.attack being higher than normal. and the low speed comes into play due to his age. just a thought. ![]() This post has been edited by jacemm7283 on 6th June 2008 17:14 -------------------- "Life: The deepest cut that wilt not heal. I always imagined Balbanes as equal to T.G. Cid, possibly stronger.

Too bad Ramza didn't inhereit any of the sweet gear he must have had at his demise, but I do imagine that his stats were high, possibly not so much with the physical ones at the end due to his age, but in his prime, I'm sure he was indeed one of, if not the strongest warrior in Ivalice.

The whole game is set up to play on Ramza's station in life, which works wonderfully when thinking about his father.
Balbanes was a man among men, unequalled by his peers. The most disciplined, respected, and feared warrior of his time. Noble, powerful, yet still humble and wise. Ramza should have gained part of his inheritance, and set on the long path to becoming a Heaven Knight himself in his father's footsteps, but fate intervened. Oddly enough, the same virtues that made Balbanes a hero worked to make Ramza an outcast and fugitive. Throughout the entire game, you can draw contrasts between Ramza and his brothers and the choices they make. Neither of the two elder brothers exhibit a shred of the man that their father was, yet they are renowned and honored. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Zalbaag and Ramza, both, inherited their father's traits, however, Ramza made enemies out of the wrong people. Zalbaag's downfall was the fact that he had too much faith and trust in Dycedarg.

Not to threadjack, but Zalbaag was slime. He came around in the end, but he let things slide for far too long to consider him "honorable". Ramza was the only one of the three brothers that came close to following in his fathers footsteps, IMO.

I don't think Zalbag was slime at all, I think he was simply naive, placing the same trust in his brother that their father did. I mean, there is not one shred of evidence that Balbanes (god, some of these names are just ridiculous!) thought Dycedarg (yet again!) had anything to do with his death. And Zalbag had far more responsibilities on his shoulders than Ramza did.
And to be honest, at the start of Chap. 2, Ramza isn't all that honorable either. He deserted the actual Hokuten Knights and was working with Gaff, who we later find out is a total slime. If he hadn't drawn the comparison from Teta to the Princess, he probably wouldn't have become as noble as he was. Ramza's sense of justice in Chap. 1 is born of naivete. He wonders why things are different between the nobles and commoners, and thinks that if commons work hard, they will be rewarded, which is simply not true in the world of Ivalice. Of course, from that naive status he learns quickly about the facts of life in Ivalice, and then becomes briefly bitter (and rather Cloud like). It isn't until teaming up with Agrias, trying to save Ovelia, that he really starts to come into his own, and become the son Balbanes deserved. -------------------- CloudxAeris=Undying Love. ^_^ |

Quote (Lune knight @ 16th August 2008 01:37) if you all recall zalbag was the one that order algus to kill teta in order to get to the cornered golagros The order wasn't exactly to kill Teta, at least not in so many words. The order was to attack the member of the Death Corps. I think Zalbag just had too many things on his mind to worry about it, and I'm sure he felt the wound wasn't that serious. Besides, even if he did mean for Algus to kill Teta, that still makes him one of the more decent characters in the game. -------------------- CloudxAeris=Undying Love. ^_^ |
