I have many things I do not know in FFT. I can't remember all the questions right now so I'll ask a few for now and continue with edit/reply. I'm playing Ps1 version of FFT
please halp ![]() 1. I noticed that I had some Job Points for Knight and Archers when I reached level 2 squire (so I haven't done a job change) is that normal? 2. first question kinda led me to this question (because I was assuming when you get a new job, you start with 0 job points), but do you only get job points of job that you are on? (For example If Ramza is a Knight, does he only get job points for Knight? Or for all the other jobs that Ramza has as well? 3. Is there limit for how many party members you can have? 4. Does that include guest characters? 5. straight from CoN site Quote In random battles, the enemies will level up along with you, making them a challenge. At the same notion, the gil received after a battle is complete depends on the enemy levels, so it's important that the enemies have higher levels if you want to get more money from each battle. does this mean enemies only level up by taking more actions? or do their level depends on some kind of highest level of your characters / average or something else? 6. what does CT do? 7. can proposition fail? 8. Are there any ways to increase defense/magic defense other than bravery/faith? (I don't think bravery decrease the damage taken, correct me if i'm wrong) (I really wanna know coz I got stuck at one level with mages/summoners), I was using knight to tank and White mage to heal, but my white mage can't heal fast enough tongue.gif) 9. are bravery/faith changes during a fight permanent? If you decrease your faith by 20, you will have 20 less faith on next fight as well? 10. is having low faith on healer a good idea? Does having low faith decrease heal amount/chance of effect skills? and does having low faith decrease amount of HP healed by another character? 1. Okay, yes, you're supposed to start off with some points upon reaching the prequisites for the class (like lvl 2 for archer/knight) also, you can get more based on an answer I will give soon.
2. Kinda, when Ramza takes action as a knight, all his JP go to knight class, but if your chemist does an action, Ramza gets 1/6th of the chemist's gained JP for Ramza's Chemist class. This also works for classes you have yet to meet prequisites for, say your knight is gaining JP, and your chemist then decides to later on switch to squire to level up, upon squire level 2, you'll have starting JP for knight, and 1/6th of the gained JP of the other knight's gained JP. 3. Yes, there's a limit, I think its 20-24, and for the PSP, I think that's increased. 4. No, does not include guest characters, but does include special characters once you can gain control of them. (aka, stop being uncontrollable in battle) Also, a neat tip, when you kill a human enemy, if you let that number drop to zero, they may drop a crystal, and that may be able to give you abilities the enemy knew, a nice way to quickly get abilities if you have the patience. -------------------- "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind." -Dr. Seuss |

The maximum number of party members (characters you have control of) is 24, but less in the PS1 version. I think the limit is 16 if I'm not mistaken.

Josh and I actually put together a newbie guide for FFT when we launched the section for CoN. It may answer some other questions you have or give you a few pointers for jobs you may not have considered.

No problem, glad I could help, alot of these tips and tricks I myself have either picked up or learned via Caves of Narshe. Neal is right, their guide is very helpful.

I also find CoN walkthroughs very useful. Not just FFT, but other ones as well
I would make a topic to applause everyone who worked on walkthrough, but it might be counted as spam xP -------------------- I will be there... |

You're right, it is 16, which I find annoying because if you actually KEEP the characters they give you in the beginning (which I never do, I strip 'em, dump 'em, and buy a male and female with high brave and then a male and female with high faith) you can't get all the special characters. Heck, even using only 4 characters + Ramza in the beginning you STILL can't get them all! Not that I bother with Rafa and Malak... ugh. -------------------- CloudxAeris=Undying Love. ^_^ |

5. Enemies in random battles will be near the levels of your characters. If your characters are around level 50, the random enemies will be around there as well.
6. CT is your count time til your next turn. This goes up depending on your speed. 7. I have a question. Is there any way to tell how frequently humans end up in random battles, or is it totally up to chance? Because I've had run throughs of the game where I haven't encountered ANY and this time I see humans at least once in twenty random battles. Also, does the class of enemies in battle correlate with the classes available to you? Because I've never seen a class that I haven't yet unlocked.
I hope these qualify as "newbie" questions. I can't really be a newbie, since I've owned this game since I got a playstation.... oh so many years ago. -------------------- CloudxAeris=Undying Love. ^_^ |

Yeah, it's possible to tell.
each area has 4 random encounter lineup data, for those, it has between 5 and 11 possibilities, from there, it randomly appears for who is in the fight. (although only possible to tell if you look at the internal side of the game though) No, depending on the area, the lineup code will have some of the human data have jobs that you won't have, or do have available. -------------------- "I'll live on for you... Some data on various questions on this thread.
All units start with at least 100-199 JP in every class, more if the class is a prerequisite for the unit's specialty class. Spillover JP accrues even if the class hasn't been unlocked. Speaking of spillover JP, it's a straight 1/4 rounded down. Ex: Wizard gains 30 JP for an action. Allies will all gain 7 Wizard JP. Gained JP up has no effect on the spillover. If in the previous example, the Wizard had Gained JP up set, she would gain 45 JP instead. Allies would still gain 7 JP. Gained JP up and spillover JP are two separate functions; 1/6 spillover doesn't exist in the game code. Enemy levels are based on the highest leveled unit in your formation screen. This includes guests. FFT has no defense of magic defense stat. Yes, there's Faith but there are magical attacks that don't use Faith in determining damage. The only forms of damage reduction for actions that don't involve Faith are elemental resistance, the Protect and Shell status, and their equivalent support abilities (and yes, having both of the same type will stack), and Zodiac compatibility. Altering Brave and Faith during battle does affect the unit out of battle. it's 1/4 the in-battle change rounded down and the game uses the aggragate change at the end of battle. So a units that has been hit with Threaten once (-20 Br), Cheer up twice (+10), and had Brave up trigger once (+3) will lose one Brave point after the battle. Healers that will use White Magic, Summon Magic, or Math Skill are better off with higher Faith. Oh, and all generic jobs besides Mime (which has more) have the exact same MA growth; it's the multipliers which makes Wizards stronger magic users that Squires and Knights. |
