One thing i noticed about Avatar, is the very good english DUB, sounds very authentic, made me cry when i saw it's currently airing on danish television with a danish DUB. /facepalm.

You know that Avatar is actually an american production...right?

I recently finished Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, and it was excellent. I think they're going to start showing the English dub on [a-s] pretty soon, so that's probably worth checking out.

PS: Geass (pronounced "gay ass") was sponsored by Pizza Hut, so there is pizza pretty much everywhere throughout the show. It makes for an excellent drinking game.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Macross yet, save for a fleeting reference on the first page of this thread. The original series (Super Dimensional Fortress Macross) is my favorite anime, and the multiple OVAs/series consistently place into my favorites (Macross Plus and Macross: Ai Oboeteimasu Ka? come to mind). And I'm anxiously waiting for the release of Macross Frontier in a few days! wacko.gif

My current watching project is Saiunkoku Monogatari. I've completely fallen in love with the anime - its got very complex politics and excellent humor (the rice scene from Ep1!). Although it does move slowly (a lot of the anime centers around politics), the characters are great.

The most recent anime I've watched was Nodame Cantabile. It had a nice story, and (in my opinion) the best anime OP to date. I'm a fan of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. As stated before, very interesting anime with all the politics, philosophy, and police action flying around. A fun (although extremely childish) anime I like is Akazukin Chacha... I remember seeing it as a little kid back in the Philippines in 1997 and falling in love with it. It's a fun, illogical children's anime that can still make me laugh today (although half of it may just be nostalgia). happy.gif Oh, and I have to mention the movies of Miyazaki, especially Mononoke Hime. Outstanding piece of animation!

In the past few months, I've also watched: Black Lagoon (quite interesting), School Days (not for the faint of heart!), Ghost Hunt (if you thought anime couldn't be scary, think again), and 5 Centimeters per Second (anyone starting to notice my fascination with obscure/never released outside Asia anime?).

I watched Sayonara Zetsuou-Sensei over last weekend, and it was really good and really funny, kind of like the opposite of GTO but accomplishing sort of the same thing. I want to find the manga somewhere, but all I can find are the first eleven chapters, then chapters 80-90. My usual places aren't helping me this time.

Started watching FullMetalPanic: SecondRaid via PSP while on the tread-

distracted. I look forward to Code Geass on [AS] soon, so thanks for the

I remember I used to love Dragon Ball Z, then after toonami ended the Cell Saga I sort of forgot about it. Then I found out about the new 6 disc box set and went out and got them, and I must say WOW, funimation has done a great job re-re-releasing DBZ this time. The image is super clean and the best part is that they left the original japanese mono audio FINALLY!!!

Anyone else here excited about the new box sets?

I coudn't help but buy all four that have already been released. I also bought the BLEACH season one box set, anybody knows if there're more BLEACH box sets?

Well, I kind of forgot about anime all together, kind of making a comeback to see what I've been missing!

Any recomendations besides Naruto?

And I saw a kid on a bus today, he was reading the 39th volume of the Dragonball manga. That made me a bit nostalgic, since the manga was published here in Poland about 7 years ago.

I wouldn't personally recommend Naruto, but go ahead if the fighting is what you like. I read/watched Dragonball mainly for its humour and Naruto fails in this aspect if you ask me.

And Bleach is okay, it's a bit too fight-focused for me, but at least it doesn't pretend to be funny.

I read a romantic manga called Hot Gimmick some time last week, and it was... good, but a little disturbing. It's about a girl that has sorta-relationships with three boys, one of whom is controlling and destructive, one of whom is just using her, and one of whom she thinks of as an older brother. It got really crazy really quick (not cute or funny, just crazy), but after a little while I just had to finish reading it just to see how it ended. Overall - pretty good.

For some reason, I've recently gotten myself into Magic Knight Rayearth.

This is after watching the first 18 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, a while back.

So basically, I'm skirting mainstream animé. I've seen a lot of Pokémon (almost exclusively from the Kanto, Orange Island, and Johto seasons), though Pokémon is not usually not regarded highly by "purists". I've also seen a lot of Voltron (GoLion), though that's like a generation too old for people these days, or something. I've seen a bunch of Naruto, only because the kid across the hall watched them, and I don't consider myself a fan of the series (I'm merely a person who's seen enough of it to know about various details). And I've lately added NGE and MKRE to the mix.

The only major animé series that I've seen, thus far, is Evangelion. Really. What're big series of today, in the eyes of animé fans of the animé fandom mainstream?
- Cowboy Bebop
- Gundam Wing
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Fruits Basket
- Death Note
- The Melancholy of Suzusomethingsomething something (I forgot the name...Haruiya?)
- Bleach
- Naruto
- Inuyasha
- Yu Yu Hakusho

Interesting. I've only gotten myself into one of them.

Suzumiya Haruhi.

I currently started watching Eyeshield 21, a series about American Football that is exhaustingly funny smile.gif
Also I'm watching Blassreiter and Tower of Druaga, two new series by Gonzo, as they come out.
Also, xxxHolic:Kei, the second season of xxxHolic, CLAPM's best series ever biggrin.gif

BOO... DBZ season five wil not have the Cell Games and will only have 26 episodes, and considering this is DBZ I'm talking about, those 26 episodes translate into 13 episodes. I don't get it, how many seasons did DBZ have. If I remember correctly when Toonami aired the episodes following the Frieza Saga they showed everything from Garlic Jr saga to the end of the Cell Games.

They should've just made the entire Cell Saga into one box set, ain't that the point of making box sets? They where doing a good job releasing sagas on their entirety ( -[Vegeta];[ Namek; Ginyu];[ Frieza]; [Garlic Jr, Trunks; Androids] -) Shouldn't the Cell Saga be [ Imperfect; Perfect & Cell Games]? That blows, a saga incomplete is not a saga.

I wonder how long season six is going to be. It should be Cell Games and World Tournament Sagas, I guess they are trying to release both tournaments in one box set. F*&^*, three more months for Cell Games... even thought I already watched it!

Arrgh, Anime.
I'm running out of Anime to watch.

I like Horror,
my most favorite being Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and Elfen Lied.
I've watched Ghost Hunt, which I thought was just enjoyable and I'm trying to get through Hell Girl, but it's much too repetitive for me to bare.

I also love Blood+, but that's more Action than Horror.

....I also like Romance and Drama, heh.
The Anime made my Key are so good...
Air, Kanon, and Clannad, Kanon being my absolute favorite out of the 3.

Also, I don't really like Magical Girl anymore,
but I still love the classic, Sailor Moon, which was pretty much my first Anime, me thinks.

My first anime experience was Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazake... Mai Hime Mononoke for japanese title. Followed shortly by both Pokémon and Sailor Moon.

My Favorite Anime is ANY Miyazake movie... for series I'd be leaning towards Eureka Seven. It's cute, funny, and has an ending. For the laughs tho and if you don't mind being weirded out... FLCL. and another high recommendation is Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Sorry, none of which are horror, these were all more for overall suggestions. happy.gif

Edit
WAIT, I just remembered...Slayers is an amazing one for the fantasy or comedy crowd, i like it.

I'm more of a Manga person than an Anime person, so I haven't watched too much in a while. The last thing I watched was the Hellsing Ultimate 1-3 and I have enjoyed what they've done so far. I feel many series that go from the manga to the anime slow down too much, which this own avoids as it is fast with the bloody chaos. Music's not quite there though.

Grew up on DBZ, Digimon and Medabots.

Starsoul's list of Anime & Manga:

A:
Naruto Uncut 2 (After hearing the organal cast the majority of the english cast kinda are over the top and annoying. Don't play to pick up the rest of the series at full price)
Soultaker 1 (Ah, How I miss Anime Unleashed. It can be very confusing, but might be worth a peek. I need to get the rest of the DVDs.)

Short, yes? Time for the meat.

M:
Black Cat 1-15 (Great ride, one of my favorite series, My top recommandations)
Bleach 1-6 (It's good, but I eventuly need to get more)
D. Gray Man 1-4 (I've had a rollar coster with this one, but it's starting to shape up.)
Eyeshield 21 1-15 (This is the best sport series, My top recommandations)
Gin-Tama 1-3 (Jump Super Stars introduced me to Gin, Humor is hit or miss with this one with the first two voluimes have terrific short stories.)
Naruto 1-24 & 28 (It depends on you. I've grown out of my Naurtard years but is still a good read. Wal-Mart seems to be the best place to get them cheap.)
Hellsing 1-4 (Ah, my first Manga. I haven't bought many because they arn't cheap, but another high recommandation for this one.)
Shaman King 1-10 (Meh, your choice on this one. Interesting use of myth & stories)

Don't have, but should.

Well, I found a site where I can read a lot of manga, and I meant A LOT, already translated and such. So I have basically spent my summer reading:
Addicted to Curry
Air Gear
Black Cat
Bleach (yes, I like it)
Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion (as well as R2, but its not in manga form...yet)
Death Note
Double Arts
Eureka Seven
Eyeshield 21
Katana
Naruto (the manga is much better than the anime)
Samurai Champloo
Vampire Knight

As for watching them on TV, basically most of the mangas I have read have already been turned into an anime.

At the prompting of my girlfriend, I'm reading a bunch of CLAMP stuff that I kind of had been avoiding on purpose. I've finished Chobits and CCS, and in the process of reading both xxxHolic and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. The latter two are much more my style.

Not sure if this anime has been brought up or not. I've been watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni lately. When the Cicadas Cry is how it translates, if I remember. Awesome show in my opinion. Its almost like a puzzle you have to solve while watching it. I was thoroughly confused until near the end of the first series. I'm on the second series now and the show is explaining a lot.

In my experience you come to care about the characters quite a bit because you get to watch them go through these very emotional ordeals multiple times.

Well, two years after my last post in this thread, I'm still skirting mainstream animé, though I have accumulated a bunch more series in the meantime.

As my current signature indicates, I ended up getting myself a MyAnimeList page for the hell of it, with the animé list here.

As I mentioned in the favorite animé thread, I really like Kiddy Grade and Rocket Girls, but I've been watching things pretty slowly. (I only have several days worth of watching logged, unlike some people who seriously burn through series.)

Most recently, I started watching Record of Lodoss War (the OVA), which seems to be the closest thing to a D&D adventure in animé form. And the score is gorgeous and the plot epic.

Most recently, I started watching Record of Lodoss War (the OVA), which seems to be the closest thing to a D&D adventure in animé form.

This may come from the fact, that the bulk of its script is an actual D&D campaign playthrough record.

I recently watched "Umineko no naku koro ni" (When the seagulls cry), which is set (theoretically, at least) in the same universe as the "Cicadas", but in a different place, with the only things linking the two series are a certain witch and an appearance by a bit character from "Cicadas" late in "Seagulls".
The plot starts out as a supernatural variant of Agatha Christie's "And then there were none.", but abandons the suspense murder-case approach in favour of a supernatural chess match around the fifth episode, and a few episodes later all plot integrity commits suicide, demons in bunny suits appear and the ending resolves absolutely nothing.
While I had fun watching the series, and can wholeheartedly recommend the first five episodes to almost anyone, the later in the sereis, the more twisted and pointless the plot becomes.

The soundtrack is cool, though.

How does its mind screw compare to the two endings of Evangelion?

And yeah, I'm aware that Lodoss War is based on a D&D campaign, which was later made into its own TRPG system.

Higurashi and Umineko DESTROY NGE in mind****. Trust me on this one. Higurashi is the all-time favorite series of one of my college buddies, and every time I saw it I was so confused that I had to wind down with push-ups or something.

While I can agree on Higurashi here, Umineko just goes too much over-the-top to make the mind screw effective - it's just too absurd.

Finished Lodoss War OVA.

Great epic-conflict plot. Obviously full of narm, but you run with it after a while, and take it as it is. Stuff is going to happen for maximum dramatic effect, and as long as you don't mind this obviously drama-oriented dramatic pacing, you're good to go. And the soundtrack (which I'm listening to right now) is very awesome. Classical and soundtrack/fantasy/epic orchestral. Heck, Parn's theme sounds like a piece by Handel, even.

Eureka Seven seems to be on the shortlist to be watched next, but that's a pretty big series to take on, with 50 episodes.
