Russia were looking more like Argentina in that first half, I suspected they were going to just going to clinch it. Good passing and an impressive counter attack. What a disappointing second though. I think it's because they had no really inspirational player to grab them by the collar after they lost the first goal. No blame on Arshavin from me, they all played equally deflated. One shot on target in the whole game!

I think Germany are going to lose the final. Both teams are brilliant but Germany have a string of defeats in international finals so I think they'll either choke in penalties or goal opportunities, or play too casually. By now I'm sure they can melt down enough silver medals to make a trophy.

Damn. I knew I should've made an effort to get my picks in for the other matches...

Really crazy week. I'd never have thought Spain could win the cup before Monday, I'm sleeping with a Spanish woman (who will no doubt be calling me soon in hysterics), I've been drinking Spanish red wine and I'm applying for teaching jobs in Spain.

I'm glad Torres proved his worth. He played an amazing game. It came just at the right time!

It's all over now, and I think most of us can agree that the most deserving team of the tournament won it. Spain really looked untouchable throughout the last three weeks - or, hey, the last several months. They haven't been beaten in twenty-two matches now.

Sweetdude really should have shown up earlier - he made only one pick for the tournament and managed to get it exactly right, netting himself ten points and guaranteeing himself "not last" as Mertinatron never got his pick in at all. Among those who played the complete series, though, we had results that were pretty much right in line with what I anticipated after the second semi. TPN took first by two points over Del on the strength of a better pick today. I slid up into third thanks to my choice of Germany to be the champion, just as Del and TPN did (though I would have locked it up even without that).

The final results, with final prediction points in the first column and final points including Champion's picks in the second.
