The links for Amano's designs of Setzer, Mog and Umaro don't work.
Also, I prefer the sprites. They look cuter, more loveable (even Kefka) and the colors don't hurt my eyes. -------------------- You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one... |

I've never really been a fan of Amano's drawings. While he is really good at giving his drawings some sort of "soul", i just don't like his way of drawing. I am finding it really hard to explain why...
Though i must say i am impressed by some of the Amano drawings that you linked there. -------------------- All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Broccoli to die. |

I like the drawings, just not the style he draws people/faces in. It's hard to explain! The most noticeable examples that stick out to me are Locke, Celes, and Kefka. The latter two I really prefer in Amano-form, because Kefka is meant to look as completely insane as possible, and Celes cannot possibly go around fighting in a green bathing suit. Locke, however - I really dislike the Amano design, because there's no way he could be a sneaky treasure hunter who goes around adventuring with all that extra stuff hanging off. (Plus, zebra stripes. Ew. D: )

I like Amano's work on Cyan, Strago, and Banon.
I like the sprites of Locke, Terra and Leo better than the artwork. I thought Amano's style was really weird when I was 11 playing the game, but now I really appreciate the talent. This post has been edited by Ripley on 13th June 2008 01:33 |

I love everything about Amano's designs. His drawings are so detailed and there's just something THERE that I can't describe... Amano all the way. Those character sketches are just beautiful, all of them.
Edit Not to mention that, despite the greater attention that square gave to the FFVI sprites, there isn't that much room in a sprite for much detail. The sprites seem to always be lacking something. I'm sure others have also notice that the after-battle poses are odd, for it makes Terra look like she lacks clothing. Celes' sprite makes her look like she's on a swimming team. All of the other characters are alright, but I definitely love Gogo's. It has a nice look to it.
The Amano designs are too whimsical for some, but I love them. Each character has an outfit that suits them, and I prefer Locke's the most. His design actually got me to tolerate the Emo style. There's not much of a difference.  -------------------- |

The sprites seem much more compact and "understandable".
The Amano art is WAY too fancy for me. (Nomura's art is much more tolerable, in my opinion.) Also, his designs are sometimes rather creepy. Especially with the literally white skin color.
