Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
When I Come Around - Green Day
Any old Blink 182

Slightly more difficult
Longview - Green Day
Always - Blink 182 (Contains 2 string barred notes)

Fun and uber technical
Underground Theme - Super Mario Brothers

These are what I play all the time, and I consider myself one of the most rudimentary bass players I know. thumbup.gif

Also: the SMB thing will require you to tune down a 4 string Bass, as I have a 5 string with a low B, it's not a problem for me.

Really anything by Nirvana (though I detest the band) is incredibly simple on bass. The majority of pop punk relies on simple patterns and repetitive rhythm, so like Leilong mentioned, artists like Blink 182 are good practice. New Found Glory's "My Friends Over You", for example. A really fun bass line can also be found in Brand New's "Sic Transit Gloria".

I wouldn't spend too much time learning songs that come easily, however. It's a sure fire way to stagnate your practice and you'll begin to develop a lot slower. The best bet is to always pick songs a bit out of your range and slowly ease into them.

REPRESENT WITH THE VIOLIN!!

I, myself, played Violin, Viola, Piano, Guitar (folk), and Handbells in high school, so I know where you're coming from. What Dragon Fire said about stagnation is probably true, as I have not expanded beyond my knowledge "bass" (<- Ha ha, it's a pun!) in over a year.

Hysteria would be unimaginably complex, as it's a quick note progression that stops... never. tongue.gif Sounds like fun tho.

Most punk in general is easy on the bass and they seem to use it to keep rhythm. I was about to suggest The Clash, Ramones, or The Dead Kennedys.

N.I.B by Black Sabbath has a really cool bass line that shouldn't be too difficult. At least as far as the main riff goes.

Or you could do AC/DC. You don't know how many smart asses told me that when I was getting started playing drums. Ticked me off too, cause I could already play all their stuff.
But yeah, ACDC has some really simple but solid rythms, usually following the same progressions as the guitars I believe.

AC/DC, Nirvana, and Evanescence all have really easy bass lines. Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes is easy as hell to play on a bass, a lot of Sabbath track like N.I.B., Iron Man, Paranoid, and Electric Funeral all have easy main riffs. Enter Sandman is astonishingly easy to play as well
