Swift, whilst only being 60 power, always hits, which could prove handy, though Thunderbolt and Flamethrower are already pretty accurate, so there may be no need.

Perchance I missed something, but with the exception of type coverage, wouldn't Shock Wave be a much better choice than Swift, as they're both always accurate, but SW gets STAB?

Just a thought that twanged my brain as I was reading.

Also, if you're going to tinker with status effects, maybe Discharge instead of TB, as TB's chance of paralysis is 10, to Discharge's 30, as well as Discharge being an everybody hitter, good for team battles, if paired with a ground.

Maybe I'm unorthodox for trying to sway you away from the powerhouses, but hey, I think outside the box.

If you read the rest of Wizwums post, it mentioned about how it would get schooled by ground, and rock for that matter.

Well, I think since the last time I posted here I've made no progress, but this summer I might beat the elite four or just start over again and use Turtwig, because i have no water coverage.

Right you are. Due to my detestation of having two attacks of the same type, I completely ingored the use of any other electric attacks, but that is obviously a much better choice.

And I'm surprised at how many people have the Johto starters to trade. I guess breeding along with the introduction of Wi-Fi has generally made rarer Pokemon a lot more common.

Edit
Speaking of which, now, thanks to footbigmike, I have the Chimchar family and Cyndaquil. So, laszlow, I'll be contacting you about the other ten. There's not going to be any other way of getting them, so I'll gratefully take you up on your gratuitous offer. smile.gif

Well, now I have Electrike in my posession, he's about to be bred a ton (Magcargo's Flame Body helps). I think, with everyone's help, i've finalised the moveset. It'll be:
Flamethrower
Thunderbolt
Shock Wave
Roar
That way I can shuffle around opponents until I can KO them. Also, my Gallade at level 62 compared to the other Gallade's 77, already has a higher Speed and Attack. That just shows how effective EV training really is.

Edit
I do this about every pokemon i'm training, but doesn't the Shiny version of Manectric look so awesome tongue.gif

Shiny Manectric is cool, but I think that the shiny Electrike is actually cooler, as in shiny form, Electrike has Manectric's main coloring.

So... Update.

I went off the deep end and bought a few Natural Gifts.

I also broke down and bought protect for my Shedinja. Shedinja's Setup is thusly:

Shedinja:
X-Scissor
Protect
Toxic
Natural Gift -> 70 power Steel

Keep in mind that Shedinja is so Physical-over-Special that things like Shadow Ball are pretty much useless.

But that leads me to another question: does Natural Gift get STAB? B/C if it does, I may find a way to get the 80 power Ghost Berry, as that would be godly as a physical attack for my Ninjatom (<-- What I named my Shedinja. It's actually the German name for a Shedinja.)

Also, after my "Proven Setup" (which wasn't) on my Articuno, paired with the little usage lesson I made up a few posts ago, My Articuno's setup has changed:

Articuno:
Natural Gift -> 80 power Electric
Aerial Ace
Ice Beam
Water Pulse

That gives two STAB attacks, and two WTF?! attacks. And as Arti's base Attack is only 10 points lower than his base SAtk, I feel completely fine with giving him two Physical attacks, and two Special attacks. Since he was used to complete my LeafGreen game, he was used, and never EV trained. If I could someday find an untouched Articuno, I may take the time. But I don't want to play through LeafGreen again.

Best looking shiny pokemon in the game are undoubtedly Relicanth and Azumarill. Hardly even questionable. happy.gif

leilong, is there some significance to NG Steel that I don't know about? It seems like fighting is the better option in every regard, except for against ghosts. Realistically, though, not many people will bring a ghost in against Shedinja, so you'd still be safe with that I think. I'm pretty NG gets STAB also, if you wanted a ghost attack.

Just a note on Roar: it has very low speed priority. That is, every other attack will go first, regardless of speed (except for like...Counter, Mirror Coat, Trick Room, and some others). I don't really think Manelectric is very sturdy to begin with, so Roar might be wasted on him. Skarmory can pull off Whirlwind so well because he can soak those hits, but Manelectric might just get pounded. Just something to keep in mind. Maybe Toxic would work better on him? It debilitates all non-steel types, but Flamethrower kills steels. If Heatran comes in, you're dead so he doesn't matter in this course of logic.

Crap... I just pulled a MASSIVE stupid...

So it looks like I'm back to farming this weekend... as Natural Gift USES the Berry. I thought that just having it on hand made things good... not that it was going to deplete it. pinch.gif pinch.gif

What really sucks is that the effectiveness seems lacking anyway. I get one crack with an 80 power electrical move, and I can't drop anything with that! The Major Exception to this that I've seen is that the berry is NOT consumed during battle tower battles. So although it's a terrible idea for leveling and typical gameplay, it may work out as a means to tackle the competition via link battles and PBR, and items don't seem to be used up on "images" of pokemon either.

I chose Steel for the NG on Shedinja b/c I figured that there would be few pokemon with resistances to steel, bug, and toxic. Fighting probably is a better idea, but I don't have the berry for a strong fighting at the moment, but I do have the berry for a strong (there is no 80 steel, just a 70) steel attack.

BTW... Azumarill just looks like a Pikachu when shiny, and Relicanth looks OK...

Probopass has a great shiny, as it's rumored that they intentionally made him look kinda like Mario. tongue.gif

What do you guys think of Poliwrath as my water pokemon?

Oh, any how would you go about trading pokemon from XD to Pearl?

Oh, any how would you go about trading pokemon from XD to Pearl?

Poliwrath is an interesting concept for a water pokemon. Water always seemed broken to me that it's only weaknesses were electric and grass, things which I usually only had one or the other of. What's interesting about that, is that it seems that water is so strangely matched for weaknesses and resistances that pairing it up with another type (i.e. - Fighting) typically just adds more weaknesses to the pokemon. At the same time, you can add STAB attacks with the double type, and fighting is good to have on your team. His base stats are very average all-around as well, which almost seems a problem to me: Anything with a spiked physical or special typically is deficent in the other, giving you an opportunity to exploit the weakness to bring them down. Poliwrath (and Politoed as well) lack this factor in a substantial way, meaning they may take the unexpected hits better, but they'll need to hack longer at their opponents as well. Poliwrath is more physical oriented (not by much, but he is), meaning that he would be a waterfaller over a surfer, and his selection of fighting attacks isn't fantastic, with the exception that he can learn DynamicPunch (50% accuracy + confuse if successful), and Mind Reader (100% accuracy for the next move). It's a handy one-two combo if you feel it's worth it, and I'm sure there's other moves you could pair it with, as many fighting moves have lower accuracys. But it's still a slot taken up, and a move used if decided upon. The type combo is great in theory, but the stats may leave you lagging.

Ok... for XD, I think you have to beat the game to make it possible to trade with a GBA game, and then you have to link up via the GBA to Gamecube cable and trade the pokemon over, and then pal park them from the GBA cart to you D/P cart. I believe the concept is the same for the adventure mode on Coleseum also.

Now, to advance further in the conversation on Platinum:
What's is your collective takes on the Origin Forme of Giratina?

I think it looks sweet, but I wonder if it's programmed into D/P.
Also, it will be interesting if it somehow changes the moveset and stats like Deoxys does.

On another side note: Does anybody know of a release date for Everyone's Pokemon Ranch? I've been searching, and the only thing I ever find is that, "It should be an early release on the Wii Ware" But it's not released, and nobody seems to have an official date, meaning that either I'm looking in all the wrong places, or Nintendo is perpetuating the Pokemon craze by intentionally holding out on us.

Edit
I've been reading, and decided to finish up my Tyranitar. I have a Pupitar at the moment, and have been considering what Pokemon to train next.

As a Rock/Dark, he has very interesing utilization. I've come across a coulple STAB related issues, however.

For attacks: A physical Dark attack is a must. The two I'm trying to choose between are Crunch and Payback. Crunch seems the obvious, 120 power (80 with STAB), but payback has an interesting quirk. Tyranitar's base speed stat is 61, well low by training means, and Payback is a 50 power move that Doubles its power if used after the opponet. I suppose that the pokemon has to land an attack for the power to double, but if it does, STAB would bring the power to 150, effectively making it a Dark Hyper Beam with no recharge. It's really a matter of being greedy, however, as if the move doesn't get its bonus, it peaks at 75 power with STAB, meaning that non-STABed Crunches are stronger.

The other move question again has to do with sheer greed. As a Rock type, he needs a good rock move. T-tar learns Rock Slide and Stone Edge Naturally. Stone Edge would be another 150 power move after STAB, and Rock Slide is 112 power STABed. RS is 90% Accurate, and SE is 80% Accurate, so the question is: if I have an opportunity of missing either way, should I just go all-out with the Stone Edge, or play it slightly safer with Rock Slide?

Also, as a natural learner of the Fangs (Fire/Ice/Thunder), makes him very well rounded at contending with his weaknesses. If anyone has any Ideas, let me know.

@Leilong- Payback is probably better than crunch with the slow speed stat, and also he cant get the flinching bonus from crunch.

Stone Edge i would say because if i remember he gets insane defense and hp which would cover up the recoil.

For the fangs, i dont know. I think fire would be your best bet, because if i remember correctly rock and dark are bad against bug(might've been ground)and it also would give you ice and grass advantage. But on the other hand ice gives you good against dragon.

Actually, on second thought, thunder fang would be good with water.

So im guessing a good moveset would be.
Rockslide
Payback/crunch if trickroom
Fire Fang
Thunder fang/trickroom

Arright, I'll give you two random starters from the first three generations for one of those Pichus. You know, because I feel generous. We can exchange FCs over PM once I get back to my DS (probably Monday).

Tyranitar is a great pokemon, but he has a huge weakness to a common type: fighting. For that reason, it isn't wise to give him a move that gains power from him being hit since most pokemon hit Ttar to kill. Most Ttars run:

Crunch
Stone Edge
EQ
Dragon Dance/Focus Punch/Avalanche/whatever

The first three are solid physical staples, the former two being STAB'd and EQ hitting basically everything else. The fourth move slot can be for Focus Punch for a quick KO if you predict a switch, or Dragon Dance for several KOs if you predict a switch. Avalanche is good for killing dragons, but bad for the same reason Payback is bad. Perhaps Ice Fang is a better option there. But those first three moves are basically necessities on ttar, methinks. Of course, you could run the special attacking alternative, called Tyraniboah. He typically has Dark Pulse and Tbolt, but the other two moves vary. I have seen Substitute and Focus Punch for the last two slots, but I don't like that very much. He can learn Ice Beam, Flamethrower, and Surf, in addition to Tbolt and a STAB'd Dark Pulse, so special sweeper is definitely a role he can fill.

Pop Quiz!

user posted image

This is a screenshot I took in Final Fantasy 5.
There is nothing special about it. Pure shot of the game. This is the shop in Karnak (the fire city). The Armor dealer is behind his counter, and he has a treasure box with him.
Well, since there's a treasure box, there must be something in it, right?

Wrong. It is purely an arrangement of pixels designed to look like a treasure box, the code for a real treasure box that has contents is not sitting there.

What is the point of this?

The "assistants" in the Pokemon Mansion are purely reaction sprites with programmed text, "You're not allowed in here." If you get to that door, you will go nowhere. It becomes much simpler to accept once you come to the realization that, much like the Matrix, there is no door. tongue.gif

I think pokemon likes to throw these quirks in just to get everyone's goat. I remember after hearing all the rumors about finding Mew at the S.S.Anne that I traded over a pokemon that knew Cut so I didn't need to get HM01, and the boat would not leave until after I could surf. I spent countless hours reaching that point that I could examine that area, and when I finally got there, I did not discover Mew, but what I did discover was a truck, completely invisible to any player that didn't take the time to do exactly what I did. And I thought, "Well if they put it here, they must have expected people to do this as an elitist thing, and there must be some proof or trophy of accomplishment for it. There was not. They just made a complete environment for the area around the ship, even though there was no point, other than they still coded in the capability of surfing on the water around the ship.

A gigantic mansion can have infinite rooms in the mind of a curious visitor who is not allowed to see them. Making a mansion out of 3 rooms couldn't be easier.

I went the most basic route with this explanation, and if it seemed too elementary, I did not try to insult your intelligence, I just wanted to explain it that way. thumbup.gif

Back before Christmas I sent my old Gallade out (level 55ish) against his Tyranitar (level 70-75). One shot from Close Combat, not even Sword Danced, took him out. My new Gallade is stronger, faster, and is now level 100. If it's Sword Danced, nothing can stop it (Except Trick Room dry.gif ).

My Manectric is now in EV-training. I will not say her final moveset until it has been tested and is proven to work. I'm just entering the Sp. Atk training, and is level 38. My only worry is that my Ninetales and Gallade are both able to solo the Elite Four, but I don't think Manetric will be able to because the moveset will not cover Ground (which sucks, coming from an Electric pokemon). But even then, the moveset can hit EVERYTHING for at least normal damage.

It's amazing how things can turn the tide...

I remember when Fighting was a joke. In my mind, 9 times out of 10, it still is. It is unfortunate, however that most Fighting moves are powerhouses. Things like Close Combat, Extremespeed, and Cross Chop. Anything with a weakness typically OHKOs on that crap.

Back in the olden days, I remember when Psychic was unchecked, and you were stupid to pull in a fighting... ever. Then came the Dark, which Nixed the Psychics, and their weakness? Fighting. Then it was a whole different game. I remember the first time I watched my Mewtwos drop to a Houndoom. It wasn't even a fight, it was a massacare.

It also sucks that Fighting beats Ice, cuz as we all know, I love Ice. tongue.gif It's okay tho, as Articuno gets that tasty, "... but I'm flying too!" Response, and then Aerial Ace FTW!

I'm not too worried about the weakness however, as I typically dual battle, and paired with my Flygon who will have immunity to his sandstream, I think they'll make for an interesting team. I'll have to re-evaluate Flygon's STABed EQ, however, and maybe put T-Tar on EQ duty. Yay Levitate. Flygon with the speed, and T-tar with the power, sounds like a good combo to me, as long as nobody pulls two waters, and Surfs me into Oblivion, my team is still lagging in the Water and Electric department, but I'm thinking it's time for Shedinja to go, as the novelty is wearing off, and protect only helps once against the impending doom of Aerial Ace.

Extremespeed isn't type fighting...

Just out of interest, might Aerial Ace be a good move for Tyranitar? If you're predicting the switch in of a fighting type, hoping for a STABed Close Combat or the like, it'd be likely to quickly take out anything switching in. Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there (and watch get ripped to shreds, no doubt.)

My Bad on ExtremeSpeed... I saw it was a Lucario thing at one point (SSBB actually), and just assumed... pinch.gif

I may consider Aerial Ace. The biggest "argument" people will come up with is that there are much higher attack power moves that could be utilized on T-tar. But 1000% accuracy is worth something. tongue.gif Saying that the other always-hit moves are grass (magical leaf), dark (faint attack), electric (shock wave), and normal (swift), either Faint Attack or Aerial Ace would be good, and strangely... T-tar doesn't learn Faint Attack. dry.gif

Problem with it, is that Flying hits Grass, Fighting, and Bug for super effectiveness, and the STAB rock attack is gonna hit bugs already.

Plus side - Flying hit's a lot for decent neutral damage, including itself (but again, you have rock). And with the gambit of super-powered moves that T-tar has that could miss, it may be nice to have something that always will, regardless of the flashes, smokescreens, and double-teams.

The thing about Ttar is that he's weak against fighting attacks, but not necessarily fighting pokemon. Almost anybody can learn Brick Break or some other fighting move, so I'm not going to risk my Machamp getting OHKO'd when I could just bring in someone sturdier to kill him. There are two huge opportunities to kill Ttar:

1. If you bring ttar in after one of your pokes dies or just as a switch during one of your opponent's attacks, then you have to deal with the active pokemon. If he has a fighting attack and any reasonable speed, you're dead. That's it. It doesn't matter if he's fighting type or if he's a Crawdaunt (who is actually slower than Ttar, but don't worry about that). Close Combat is overkill. Brick Break will kill Ttar, almost without fail. Even my Muk can OHKO Ttar with Brick Break. So that's the biggest fear. If you bring him in against anybody with hands, you're dead.

2. If they don't have hands or any reasonable speed (maybe a Brave Absol?), then they bring in a bulky water. Milotic, Slowbro, or most commonly, Swampert. Ttar can't touch them. Sure, Thunder Fang hits Milotic and Crunch hruts Slowbro, but a Surf from any of them kills him.

So there you have it. That is how you kill a Tyranitar. Use a bulky water (Swampert is ideal) or hit him with Brick Break. It doesn't matter what type of pokemon you are; if you are both out at the beginning of a turn, and you have Brick Break, he's a goner.

Ok, my Manectric is now level 60, has it's offensive moveset done, but it's fourth slot is Thunder Wave. I don't hate Thunder Wave, but any ideas on a better fourth move? (Although it would probably help if I mentioned the rest of her moves... NOT YET!). Flamethrower isn't strong enough yet to OHKO the first of the Elite Four, but it gets it into the red.

Anyway, here's why i'm posting. Since the US is getting their Darkrai events soon, is anyone willing to trade? All I want is it in my Pokedex, so you'll get it straight back.

In addition, tomorrow and/or the day after, i'll be going through the areas in Sapphire to get the Regis, so once i've transferred them over and got Regigas, they're up for grabs.

Edit
Oh, and, referring to Platinum:

The story focuses on Giratina, who appears here in a new "Origin Forme". Other changes include new outfits for the protagonists. There have also been unconfirmed reports of alternate forms for Shaymin and Regigigas, as well as WiFi support for Undeground.

Hey FBM, if I can get out to the event next weekend I'll gladly trade him to you for a bit for pokedex completion.

Could I get your Regirock? I don't really know what I could trade you for him, but I can breed pretty much anything with what I've got right now. Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

Well, a blip in the internal clocks means I won't have them to trade until 7pm-ish tomorrow. sad.gif

Anyway, i'm not really looking for pokemon so much as the items to evolve them, so if you want to trade the Regi for a Dragon Scale (to evolve Seadra), or a Razor Fang (for Gligar). That's all i'm really looking for at the moment.

Oh, and in a few days, i'm trading in my DS for a DS Lite (I couldn't resist sleep.gif ), so anyone with my friend code will need to have it updated. Hopefully i'll be able to trade the Regis tomorrow, but if not, i'll keep you posted.
