So after getting bored of GTA IV and my 360 all together, losing all my data on FFVI Advance (which really annoyed me considering I was half way through the game) I decided to get out a console which had a wide selection of games and had a hard time to ever disapoint me, the SNES. And after looking through all my past childhood games wondering what to play, I find a game that is very special to me and I hadn't played in years...EarthWorm Jim.
This is probably one of the best side-scrolling and funniest games I've played in my life. With its wacky levels, one of a kind design and memorable characters I can't belive I ever forgot about it Anyway I decided to post a topic about it because this game is so fun and a very important game in my childhood. So I wonder, has anyone on CoN actully played Earthworm Jim? And if not I highly reccomend it, if you have a Wii it may be coming to the Virtual Console This post has been edited by MoogleMuffins on 21st May 2008 19:14 -------------------- Snake: I'm no hero...never was...never will be... I enjoyed both Earthworm Jim and its sequel very much. I never owned them but I used to rent both on holidays a lot.
It's worth noting that the original had a level missing on the SNES compared to the Mega Drive/Genesis, so the latter had a better version in that respect. EWJ2 was definitely stronger on the SNES, but if you're emulating it, you'll find the sound to be horribly broken on current emulators, unfortunately (unless someone has recently come up with one that can take care of it). The cartoons were also mighty fine, if anyone remembers them. |

I'd rather play my PS3 then play that game again, and all my PS3 does is gather dust waiting for MGS4. And I didn't know the SNES version was missing a level Tiddles, makes me want to play that level now -------------------- Snake: I'm no hero...never was...never will be... I've never actually played the game,
but my Aunty Kathy did. She'd play a lot when I was younger and I used to watch, but I never touched the controller. I'd try to actually play it, but I sadly no longer have 'my' SNES.... Earthworm Jim! Through soil he did crawl! Earthworm Jim! A super suit did fall!
Both games were amazing parts of my childhood, I can't think of games I loved to play more. Especially that one particular level where you had to catch and bounce falling cows as the tarantella played in the background. The game was a whole lot of humor throw together with a solid platform game that made it incredible. The second especially had a lot of great levels The cartoon was excellent, the misadventures of Princess What's Her Face and of course, the sheer stupidity of Jim himself. It was great. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Oh yes! EWJ FTW! I played it on the Genesis. It was one of three games I owned for the system before I sold it. Like Tiddles said, it was better than the SNES version, as was one of the other three Genesis games I owned, Shadowrun (anyone remember that blast from the past, not to get too off topic?). Also loved the cartoon show. Honorary mention to Pete, EWJ's sidekick dog who turned into a monster whenever he got hurt.

Gaaaarrroovayyy!!!
I always loved that catch phrase he did when he gave us here at home the thumbs up. I would love to see this on VC like Screwattack gamevault hinted at at Gametrailers. But like mentioned, i would want the longer Genesis game. -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. I never played Earthworm Jim, mostly because when it comes to platform games around that time, I just couldn't be bothered. I'm lousy at them.
Also, anyone who is either blizzera god or is baiting blizzera god to continue to go off topic needs to stop, please. It's not entertaining any more to watch him post about the latest game to come out and be a "blockbuster." -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? As it's coming up for the VC, and it was available for both SNES and Genesis, WITH DIFFERENCES, what direction do you think they will go with the release?
It seems like it would be an obvious choice to go SNES b/c they are Nintendo, but how would the fans react if the lost level wasn't available? I've never played the game, but as I've heard nothing but good things about the game, it would definitely be worth the 800 points either way they decide to go with it. -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! I remember that game and I play the tabletop RPG a little too But on Earthworm Jim, one of the best games ever made. Right alongside Boogerman (please tell me someone remembers that mucus-encrusted gem). I plan on getting the DS re-release of EWJ soon Edit And I loved the level with "Night on Bald Mountain" was the background music...I wanna say it was What the Heck!? Apprantley there going with the SNES version. Which is a shame because the Genesis is supposed to be the better version. I'm not sure how fans would react, maybe the majority don't even know there is a difference. I know I didn't till the other day. The best option for gamers would probably have been to work from the PC or next-gen re-releases, CD music and all - but given that VC games are apparently mostly emulated, that might have proved tricky.

I remembered this game. I thought it was ok... I was 7 and I remembered it was all hard.
Was it just me or was the song "Night On Bald Mountain" from Fantasia in one of the stages? |

Coincidentally, I was looking into the history of "Night on Bald Mountain" recently. It was used in the What the Heck!? level(s), which were the only ones I could never beat. Cursed lawyers and their paper tornadoes.

I remember renting this game forever ago for my SNES, and renting again, and buying it a a yard sale... last time I've played it was prolly about 3 yrs ago I think.
Long story short, STILL CAN'T BEAT THIS ACCURSED GAME... need to find a ROM of it and see if I can't beat it now... But I doubt it. -------------------- "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind." -Dr. Seuss |
