Umm, Of the options listed... I've refused to play II after a certain point (got to the snowy northern crap and I was done) I I'd have to say OG/FFI NES was my pain in the arse. Was it truly difficult, meh, is it confusing and trying, hell yes, My poor little White Mage (named after my sis nonetheless) kept dying T-T. Oh well, as far as difficulty, I'd say Tactics, which is also one of if not the favorite game I've ever played, I... I had to use that.. that thing in your head... the b-brain. tongue.gif but seriously, I HAD to restart WHOLE game for that fight with demon weigraf (thus learning the ways of the dual save slots) pinch.gif (I actually like using tactics and had been to defeat previous enemies, thus I was underleveled for a straigt up Us V. You, the You being big bad uber demon eating me) Second time through though, I Powerleveled right before that and STOMPED his arse back to heck. I enjoyed that, but many other fights were plain difficult as heck if you weren't BOTH appropriate level and strategic.

PS: sry for the crazy long post, I could talk about FFT for a whole week straight.

My gut says Tactics for a few reasons. Mindlessly hitting the "Attack" button will carry you far in many Final Fantasies - it will get you nowhere in Tactics. Tactics is less button mashing and more like a chess match.

FFX also makes a strong argument. You have to actually bear your characters' strengths and weaknesses in mind as you fight, because you can lose random encounters if you don't.

I think FFV, FFT and FF12 have the hardest bosses. FFX has a number of hard bosses, but against the "bring in Aeon, use Overdrive, repeat" strategy, there can be no defense. FFX bosses would be a lot harder if Overdrive gauges didn't carry over, or if there were more Aeon-busting bosses like Seymour.

I think what it ultimately boils down to are the games that force you to change strategies the most. And even though Tactics is a cakewalk after the Limberry fights, I still say it's harder than the other titles. Tactics ftw, with FFV and FF12 sharing a joint second.

FFVII because it was the first I'd played. I had absolutely no idea what was going on for the majority of the game, and had to start again on the Demon's Gate. Also I didn't beat Emerald or Ruby for years after I'd bought it. Bear in mind I wasn't even nine at the time.

A similar situation for me.
But once you know how the game works, the second time round is obviously very easy, but still great fun.
