Just a quick poll. I'm curious what people think about Subspace Emissary. I've heard a wide range of opinions on it, but I think the above four kind of sum up the general feelings. I hated Subspace at first, but with no Internet connection I started playing more, and it actualy turned out to be a good way to pass the time until I get online. But, I think I preferred the old fashioned way of unlocking characters -- lots and lots of brawling. I unlocked all the characters via Subspace in about a week, and now it feels like there's not a lot for me to do as far as one-player goes. Music? Sure, but no rush. Stages? Likewise. 100% completion? Honestly, don't feel the need. But it was loads of fun while it lasted.

I was surprised how long it was. The Great Maze was actually pretty fun.

Surprisingly, I did actually enjoy playing through SSE. I played through the entire thing co-op with my brother the first day it came out and had a blast. The cinematics were really enjoyable and the levels were all interesting and unique. I did not really like the storyline, but watching the movies and playing as all the characters through subspace was really fun. The Great Maze in particular was amazing just because of the vastness of it and the character selection available at that point in the game. I really did enjoy this a lot.
That being said, I should note that I only played through on Very Hard difficulty. I did not even attempt to try on Intense. My brother and I played one level on Intense and got absolutely dominated. Those Spaak enemies killed me at 0% with one of those lightning blasts and that was all I needed to see. Most of the levels seemed really luck-based, too. That is, you were relying on getting the right items at the right times because some of the battles were nearly impossible otherwise (2 characters vs 4 ground enemies and 2 flying sniper clouds? No thanks). Also, some of the boss battles were just unfair. I don't mind having to dodge a lot of stuff (being a fan of insanely hard retro platformer/shooter games), but some battles didn't even give you the option. We lost on the Duon battle probably 6 times before we got really lucky with some items. Most of the attacks are blockable, but some others are just instant kill at any percent >40. Rayquaza had some similar attacks, but that was not nearly as bad as Duon, IMO. As I mentioned before, I wasn't a big fan of the storyline. I think the inclusion of most of the characters was really forced and half-hearted. Granted Sakurai was combining characters from many different franchises, so trying to find a suitable habitat for each on the same planet is a feat I can't even dream of. Still, though, it didn't really seem to flow at all. This is for most of the storyline characters, too, not just Toon Link, Wolf, Jiggles, and Sonic. Overall, though, it was a good experience and extremely fun to play through with someone else, even if it was infuriating at times. Tabuu hax, but that was to be expected so I wasn't nearly as upset. Haha. -------------------- Is PJ |

kinda wat caeser said about the difficulty. I beat subspace by myself on very hard and tried intense mode. i beat a few stages and decided to fight the final boss on intense.....big mistake.
Me and my buddy did it co-op, and it took us 37 tries till we finally beat him. my word he was hard -------------------- Kefka's Message of the week: Get off your couch noobs and get my new game Dissidia 012 |

Even without voice acting or dialogue it wasn't that bad. Actually I preferred it that way for a few reasons. -------------------- |

I didn't mind it THAT much. I mean, I would've preferred just starting with all the characters so I could get to the real Brawl-ing ASAP, but that's being a little greedy.
That being said, I actually enjoyed playing SSE at least somewhat. It was mostly over-repetitive and uninspired (particularly for boss-battles), but at least the cinematics were fun. However, I am completely, 100% soured to the whole experience because after beating it at my friends house on the first day in anticipation of transferring the save data, we found that it was impossible to do so and thusly I found myself having to drag through the whole thing all over again. -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

It took forever to get him. -------------------- |
