I dislike "Best/Worst Final Fantasy" polls/topics because the games are different to every player. I null voted because I don't really think there is a "Worst" Final Fantasy game (at least yet...) and because all of the games are unique and fun in their own ways. It's also very odd that Final Fantasy V isn't selectable in the poll. Perhaps there's a bit of bias in this poll.
X is far from being a terrible game because, although the voice acting is excruciating at times and the characters may seem annoying, the game's voice acting is a lot better in the original Japanese voice acting. The game itself had little to do with anything else in the series besides reoccuring magic, summons, and equipment. VII is not the worst either but it's certainly the most overrated game in the series. A lot of the characters were uninteresting and the plot seemed boring to me, but I do like certain characters. Majority of the Compilation of VII seems largely unnecessary besides Advent Children, but even Advent Children seemed like it was just used for Square Enix to profit. Although VIII was the first Final Fantasy game I played, I think it's the one that I least liked from all of them (except maybe II) because the characters seem boring and the love story just seemed odd and too forced. In the latter parts of the game, battle is spent overusing the Limit Breaks and the Aura spell and the Junction system makes your characters overpowered. A lot of the reasons that I disliked both Final Fantasy VII and VIII is because they're the most futuristic/post-modern in a largely medieval fantasy series and because Tetsuya Nomura largely replaced Yoshitaka Amano. I dislike a lot of Nomura's work, mostly including the overrated Kingdom Hearts series. Sure, there are tons of RPGs set in medieval worlds, but Final Fantasy sets them apart by delivering a grand story and memorable characters. -------------------- "You underestimate the strength of a Jedi's mind, Brejik. I had no idea so many people hated Final Fantasy VIII
I thought that was one of the best in the series, and thought many other people thought so too. -------------------- Snake: I'm no hero...never was...never will be... I don't hate VIII. It had some neat aspects and the graphics were pretty. I just didn't care for Squall or his goofy weapon. I like all Final Fantasies myself, it's just my least favorite in the series

Maybe it's different for me because It was the first Final Fantasy I had ever played. I think it's one of the best of the series and yes while Squall's sword is kind of goofy, its cool too

I cant understand why sooo many people hate final fantasy 7 just because it is the most popular of the series by a mile. I also don't know why 8 is being hated on too. Am I the only one that doesnt like 9? I just never got into my main character being a thief with a tail. I might be the only one on this, but I actually really enjoyed FFV.

The FF I liked the least on my first time through it was VII.
After beating FFVI on the SNES back in 1990-something, I didn't continue on with the series until beating VII a year or two ago. It was just so different than the 8- and 16-bit Final Fantasies I remembered. Horrible graphics, dark & disturbed main character, overly-long summons, the weapon/armor system was too simplified, etc. But looking back now, it wasn't so bad. I guess I'm just becoming an old fuddy-duddy... I only really like games old enough to make me nostalgic for my childhood! |

I voted FFVII. I was going to go through and find links to every post I ever made that was negative about it, but I have 96 pages of posts, and figured that was way too much trouble after page six.
People who half-way know me here won't be surprised. Quote (Basch @ 12th February 2008 18:35) I have a feeling ff7 will take the cake here because it's suddenly cool to be down on it. There aren't any Final Fantasies that I hate, so I'll go with the one that I can't really think about playing again: FFVII. I played it once, its good, but when I borrowed it from my cousin last summer, I couldn't get through it again. If I could get into it like I did before, I could've kept going but it was more like "I've seen this once and I don't really care if I see it again".
FFIV is my second least favourite because once again, I can't really think about going through it again. I haven't played FFVIII or FFX-2, so I can't join in on the bashing. I'm just trying to protect my mind from being mushified. My favourite FFs, as those who know me are aware, are FFV and FFIX. -------------------- Why, hello guys! rant
FFXII's main chaarcter Vaan, come on, he had no appeal to him in the slightest, only connection that was made for him was "is my brother alive and/or ashe's ex fiancée?" the battle system, it must have took me 15 minutes to realize the little beam had to come out of my character, find the target, then wait for the character to be 'ready' to do whatever it is i told him/her to do. the hunts were pretty good, but would be better in something like Crisis Core's battle system (or to a extent Kingdom hearts, but without the jump aspect as there would therefore be 'challenges' where you have to jump to get places) the plot... I got the game when it came out and FINALLY I got to Archadia's doorsteps, having stopped every town or two because of how tedious it is for the battle system and atrocious characters. The quickening system was a cheap way to get power, in every boss fight after the fire mare i had 3 quickenings for all the characters and always managed to get the 'black hole' aftermath of the quickening barrage so the boss fights were over too soon, but when you get to the henne mines the boss battles were not around for a while, then you are suddenly threw head first into 3 bosses almost one after the other with about a 5 minute break. /rant the only flaw with FFIV in my opinion was the lack of a mini map or something as i always got lost, but with the DS FFIV, that was perfection. FFVI has to be the all time best 2D FF game in my opinion, everything about it was good, even the best to try to mod now and again. best 3D would have to be FFVII, good music, (although i am going to scream if i hear one winged angel in another game again) good battle system, even the super deformed characters, they added the cute factor to the game as a sort of comic relief. worst 2D game would have to be FFII or FFI because in FFII i never got past the 'finding the masks' part and FFI the battle system was just 'attack attack attack curaga attack attack attack attack curaga' for the majority of the game. -------------------- "I'll live on for you... That will be my penance." |

I absolutely hate FFX-2.. Thankfully I only played a small portion of that game since I was willing to give it a try, but the job system was uninteresting.. The fact that you could switch jobs during battle was just... stupid. And you use "dresspheres" to switch your jobs in that game... ...hooray, that's cool.. I stopped playing the game and moved on to better things..
My second least liked FF would be FFVIII.. I disliked the characters, the story, the GAMEPLAY... But, the card game was grand, and being such a ridiculous game, atleast it is much more interesting than FFX-2.. So kudos to FFVIII for atleast having some kind of worth compared to the likes of X-2.. Oh, and from now on I will refer to X-2 as "Final Fantasy For Girls" or FFFG. |

Id have to agree with lazlow ff 2 absolutely sucked. I tried playing it and i didnt even get the plot it was so stupid. It was so hard to level up in that game and using tomes is just stupid in this game. The worst part was the "special" words you had to remember, what's the point!

Not totally sure. Ive only played 6, and a few spinoffs of final fantasy (Crystal Chronicals, Chocobo Tales, etc.) since Ive never gotten a Playstation or PS2. I know tons about final fantasy 7, and a bit about 8. I also own XII:Revenant Wings. I personally like 6 and 7, but I have heard that 9 sucks eggs. Does that main character seriously have a friggin tail? XD

regardless of what anyone says 9 was a great game to me, it went old school again, and i like the system to learning magic, you had to actually spend some time levelling to learn it, kinda like the esper system with 6. 9 had a great story that involved more than saving the world.
To me 9 was one of the better games and definatley saved the series after VIII was released. and yes 2 was horrible, i didn't like the idea of the upgrading weapons, plus no matter what you somehow got obliterated int he first hour if you accidently travelled 3 feet to far. you can hate VII if you want, it's just everyone should hate 2....bottom line, the story was bad, the gameplay was boring, andi'm pretty sure there was some antisemitic tones in there.

Quote (Sherick @ 29th April 2008 21:17) And hating VII is an opinion? That's probably the reason this is sort of a difficult subject. Because I don't really think they've made a bad game. Even some of the most disliked ones (judging from this poll, 10 and 8) aren't really bad games. Even though 8 is hated by some people, I'm sure a same amount of people love it. They just don't post as much. -------------------- |

VIII, for reasons that have been discussed to death on these forums. I hope that if CoN ever gets back to PS-era FF coverage, they skip VIII and go straight to IX.
