The game called "Final Fantasy III" for the SNES, released in the United States in 1994, is this game, FF VI. It was the first game covered by CoN, and is one of the most lastingly popular games in the series. The "real" FF III is actually a 1990 NES game that did not have any official English version until the DS remake was released in 2006.
The US version of Final Fantasy Anthology has FF V and VI in it, but the PAL version had IV and V - Wikipedia tells me that FF VI was added to the PAL Anthology in 2002, but I dunno how easy it is to find. It was also remade on the Game Boy Advance about a year and a half ago, so you could try playing it that way. -------------------- |

Yeah, only the SNES American version was named FF3, becuase it was the third FF game released in the US. It's actually the sixth intsallment of the series.
By the way, if you don't have the SNES version, I recommend trying to find it. -------------------- |

It's kinda funny how long people though it was actually final fantasy 3, rather than 6. Yup, the SNES version is fantastic, and arguably superior to both the GBA and PSX versions, from what I've heard.
