i have a problem with emerald weapon

hey guys, im new to the forums, but an experienced FFer

but i found myself thinking during school, i have done pretty much everything in FF7-FF12, except beat emerald and ruby weapon, so i decided to get some materia training and go try

So i decided to use the method of W-summoning KOR and mimicing it. I used Cloud (lvl 81), Cid (lvl 80) and Red (lvl 75) and it was going pretty good, i calculated that i did 800k damage, but then the "problem" occured.

it revenge stamped me, and so all my chars were on 2k hp (cuz of emerald beam), so i thought k maybe i can kill it before it gets another on me, but then straight after, wtf happens

aire tam storm

u cant survive it, and i was thinkin wtf, i havent seen this happen in any vids before. maybe it was just my luck, so i decided to try again, and the same frickin thing happened.

can anybody who has a good deal of experience of dealing with emerald weapon help me please? thanks

Aire Tam storm deals 1111 damage for each piece of materia a character has equipped. So a character with 9 or more pieces of materia will automatically get OHKOd by it. A lot of guides use this to initiate lucky 7s, by giving a character 2 materia (usually HP plus, to get them up to 9999HP.) This means Aire Tam storm will knock them down to 7777, and they'll just start attacking. The best way to actually do it, is to make sure you have less than 9 peices of materia on at least one of your characters, and have W-Summon with KOTR, and Mime and Counter on all of your characters. The more pairs of Mine and Counter you have, the more times you'll attack back with KOTR every time you are hit. Basically, just keep hitting it with Miming W-Summons of KOTR (for example, if someone has 4 sets of Mime paired with Counter, as long as W-Summon of KOTR was last used they'll attack back with 8 KOTR when they're hit.) If you keep up with this set up, Emerald should be down in no time.

i had no idea about that 1111 damage thing ohmy.gif, thats very helpful

and yeh i have been lookin at some vids and pretty much all of them have mime - counter linked multiple times, so i just have one question.

is it the standard counter attack u link with mime (purple materia) or the magic counter one (white)

The Counter-Attack materia (the purple one) just attacks back with a generic attack whenever your hit (the % chance of it occuring varies on the level of your materia), whereas the Magic Counter materia has a % chance of attacking back with the most powerful spell of whichever materia its paired with.

The materia you need is the Counter materia, obtained in the Northern Cave right before the end of the game (see this part of CoN's guide to obtain it, or you can get it as a prize from the A and S rank Chocobo races.) Just win enough from chocobo racing (or get one and Master it to get another), get all that you have to Master, and then equip them.

oh right i see tongue.gif, i just beat it 10 mins ago anyways but thanks tongue.gif, i thought it was jus the purple materia in the chocobo races (won it twice now) but picked GP both times =\

maybe il get some for ruby, thanks guys

Ruby is resilient to physical attacks, and unless you spam KoTR the tougher of the two.

just keep it in mind that he will only knock out characters til you have 1 left, so if you kill two off before the fight. you'll keep the character you set-up to beat him.

Well, I couldn't beat Ruby with 2x KOTR, 2x W-summon, 2x Final attack, 2x Phoenix, and everyone with double cut (2 of them was 4xcut) and I had 2x Hades too and Dazers. That thing first took Cloud away with Whirlsand, well W-summon and KOTR went there, then it took Tifa away and there was another Final Attack and phoenix + Kotr with W-Summon, and then I just shut down my game because I had nothing to do with Yuffie.

yah, rubys defense is INSANE. with like 20 hero drinks and ultimate weapons i was doing around 4000s even though i spent like 10 hours morphing unknowns into power sources

EDIT: thats why you go into battle with 2 characters dead

W/O hero drinks, I tried spamming Highwind with Cid.
8300 with each hit. (dissapointing.)
can't remember if i used dazers that round, but i lost anyways.

You go into battle with characters dead co ruby isnt vunerable until 2 are dead and also that you can choose which 2 are dead aas if you go in with all 3 alive you dont want ruby killing your best character.

The maximum amount of Hero Drinks one character can intake is four, so don't bother using twenty!

rly guys, ruby is so unblievably easy unless ur tryin these techno methods. IMO, id rather play diff games thn lvl up 8 mime and 8 counter materias
