I'm currently firing through the game trying to beast this challenge - get to near the end of the game in less than twelve hours to find a big sword yay. I'm using a PAL disc so, if I understand correctly, I'm playing the game at a fifth slower than NTSC and it's torture. I can't afford to get into a single random battle and my low levelled children are hopeless in boss fights. If it wasn't for the entire Manic's discography I borrowed from my flatmate's girlfriend I'd be sunk. I did the first disc in 2:58, five minutes faster than the first time round, remembering to take the time to get a chocobo for the Outer Continent.
Basically I'd like some input from anyone who has any knowledge that would help. By this I mean: when should you get Quina etc. I'm asking this because the FAQs I've read sound like they were written by somebody who was either living in a slower reality than me or hadn't picked up the game in about five years. "And burn through the wall in the Ice Cavern to pick up a Leather Wrist, that will help against the Black Waltz"... "Fight every random battle you come across, that will give you the levels you need to beat the later bosses". If I did that I'd probably be on the second disc in six hours. Also if you've tried this and failed/succeeded/lost hair I'd like to hear it! -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Get Quina ASAP, because Limit Globe will save your ass in some boss fights that you otherwise don't have a prayer of winning.
Also, I'm pretty sure that random battles activate based on you long the controller detects inputs mixed around with a RNG, so I've heard (and confirmed myself) that you can avoid a majority of random battles in dungeons if you walk a few steps, pause, walk a few more steps, pause, and so on. You do want some random battles to level up, but keeping them down when you don't need them will help you get through some dungeons much more quickly. And also, do the open/close trick to skip cutscenes. It helps a lot. This post has been edited by laszlow on 11th March 2008 15:04 -------------------- |

Limit Glove! That's exactly what I was looking for thanks. The first cutscene doesn't rack up any time on the clock so I assumed that the rest don't either. I still skip them anyway though. Also I didn't know about the walk, pause, walk so that's going to help a ton as well. I literally can't afford to fight a single battle I don't have to, however, so I really will just have to rely on Limit Glove and Blood Sword.
I've not played it since I last posted but I'll give it another blast soon. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |
