I thought this too, at first, until a friend proved me wrong.
You don't actually "evade" the attack. Instead, Golem absorbs it for you. You still see damage numbers, but if you check your character's HP after an attack, it won't have changed. |

According to the Battle Mechanics Guide, up to the Max HP of the caster. So, for maximum effect, have a Knight equipped with the best possible gear sitting in the corner with a Chemist or a Monk to restore his MP, repeatedly casting Golem while your other three roam, immune to physical attacks.

Quote (Lune knight @ 19th January 2008 21:58) thats pretty nuts...so golem + blade grasp = invincible party? Theoretically, it means invulnerability to Physical attacks. Magic will still damage the characters, so you'll have to take precautions against that. Similarly, if I'm not mistaken, Choco-Meteor is always a 100% hit attack, so it can evade your Blade Grasp and deplete your Golem pretty fast, assuming Golem even stops it. I haven't tried, so I'm not sure. |

Not invulnerable, exactly, but a Feather Cloak combined with Abandon results in an 80% evasion rate of magical attacks (Featherweave Cloak and Reflex, in the PSP version, I think). Bear in mind that not all magic can be evaded, of course.

of course that would be asking for too much.
but having a high percent of evasion seems a little ridiculous just because no one ever hits you -------------------- "Change the world? no one can do that, Im not that naive!" |

All monster attacks ignore Golem. Unless the monster is Berserked, oddly enough. Golem otherwise only stops Attack, Charge, Throw, and Jump commands. It will stop even an attack that would be absorbed. (Healing Staff, Ice Brand hitting an Ice Shielded unit, etc...)
Thrown Balls will be blocked even though the animation plays out without Golem appearing. May block, say, an Ice 2 from an Ice Brand attack but use discretion. My memory of this is fuzzy. Blade Grasp stops everything that Golem can. so both at once is somewhat excessive. Still helpful for those occasions where Blade Grasp is disabled by negative status, though I'd suggest a different reaction. Counter is fun with two strong weapons and Golem as backup. |

The weapon will be blocked, but it won't protect from weapon magic.
I never thought much of evasion in the first run through, but after a random battle with everyone wearing Feather Mantles, I saw it helps. I was so naive back than... -------------------- Blah Blah Blah Tidal Wave Spam! |
