Alright so im playing the advanced version of final fantasy 4, and i know i want to use Rydia, Cecil, and Rosa. I really like Cid and Edward, but Yang and Kain are really strong. I know alot of you are final fantasy nerds, so would you help me out?

Why dont you just use someone, and if you dont like them switch them out for someone different?

Statistically, NOT Kain. His Holy Lance was a ho-hum weapon in the original game, and with the extra equips for the other characters, he falls pretty low until you get his ultimate weapon in the post game dungeon. Surprisingly, his Jump isn't missed so much as it's bonus damage doesn't compare well to the other character's normal attacks.
Edward's survivability is dismal, but his speed is great and power are pretty fair actually. His Apollo's harp is fire elemental and rips dragons apart. Hide is Jump's invincibility, but no damage and can be unlimited by defending instead of showing himself. It's handy to avoid Big Bang. Yang brings crazy HP and offense, but a low magic defense. His speed ain't bad either. His Hand of the Gods is holy, so does good damage against undead, combined with the Cat claw, it's a heap of pain. If you still have a Fairy claw, use it against the mech giants. Power gets by Behemoth's counters. Cid is similar to yang, but less speed and more defenses. His Thor's Hammer beats up those giant mechs and the accursed Evil Masks with ease. Also, his hammer is lightning elemental, making him a natural for Odin and Leviathan fights. His speed and evasion suck though. I'd recommend Cid and Yang. Edward's good, but kinda frail. Kain...uh...has offensive problems until post game. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. Quote What happened to Edge? Oh and ill pick Kain. The problem that i had with edge was that he, like edward, was kinda frail but doesnt have uber speed. Quote Statistically, NOT Kain. Thanks, i dont like really like him. And i dont wanna switch people out, because that would be go to moon fight for a while, back to the whale, go to the tower, switch, go to moon, again and again. And i think(not sure) that rosa and rydia are better than the twins. Edit: To Future Readers, I'm closing this because i beat this game over a month ago and I don't want to support spamming. Edge has the best speed in the game, can get close to max attack power in both hands after some levels, and has nifty stuff like Smoke.
Edward has some great elemental weapons, Chant is a solid ability, and he's reasonably quick, but even frailer than Yang. Cid is slow, but has great physical attakcs. He can't equip a shield with his strongest weapons and his best armors give low magic defense and poor elemental resistances, which is a bit of a problem later on. Cid's a hell of a tank, but his bad speed hamstrings him from being as good as the other physical characters. Yang, well, Yang's the best option until Edge's attack power catches up. He has below-average defense, and his HP caps off way too early on. Also, while his strength stats max out quickly, his attack-free weapons make his attack power plateau early on, too. Basically, Yang's a superbeast until you get some better equipment, after which he's not nearly as useful as Edge. Kain, well, he's a tank like Cid, but he also has an awesome weapon (the Abel Lance), solid equipment, and Jump, which is pretty nifty but becomes more of a defensive measure than an offensive measure once you get the Abel Lance (to take advantage of as many attacks (and Tornadoes) as possible later on). So my recommendation is to stick with Yang, and I guess either Kain or Cid for a second tank or Edward if you don't mind putting three characters in the back row. Once you get the Abel Lance and the rest of the new equipment, give those last two slots to Kain and either Edward or Edge in the last slot. Their speed will serve you well, and Yang's stats will be near their limits by the time you get most of the best equipment. -------------------- |

Cid. Just because
Possible spoilers: highlight to view he shows his middle finger to Golbeze. And he's a great guy anyway. -------------------- You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one... |

Yo Momma ive already told you who i think is the best... EDGE! His speed is way better than yangs and once you get masamune and murasame hes awesome, also he can use some type of magic which yang cannot. Last of all his throw command is ideal for zeomus if you have excalibur and "the knife." This is why edge should be used for the lunar dungeon.

I haven't had Cid in my party yet, but I can account for the others.
Yang's like a second tank. He's pretty good at it too, unleashing AoE kicks and nice damage. Edward, well, he does alright damage with his harp, but his defense is horrible. However, he can be used in a successful manner with an ingame glitch that involves getting his HP down low. Kain, he's pretty good. I'd say he's between Yang and Ed in terms of statistics. I've only had him for the beginning of the game, but through that, he's turned out pretty useful. From what I know (which is obviously limited, and I don't know how they will fare past my boss fight), I'd say that you ought to bring Yang over. I'll post back when I defeat Beigon. I voted for Cid, though it was a tough decision since 3 of my 5 starters were in your list. Though i obviously prefer kain's story, (which is very important to me) cid is stronger, and can be a brick wall when it comes to health. plus, in FFIV advance, you can use him for the final battles (im not sure if you were able to in the original FFIV). yang on the other hand, ended up being the worst of the 5 characters i used. so, if you choose two of those four, i would say cid and kain.

edge and kain because if you finish the final dungeon, you get plunder (steal + attack) and dbl jump (9999s each time almost). It took me 3 1/2 hours to go through the maze to get hanzo gloves :/
Edit oh and if you get plunder, and you are "detected by the enemy" it hits edge with 258 damage This post has been edited by §€þђΊɾδ†ђ on 26th February 2008 00:03 -------------------- [llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll] Loading Clever Response-Please Wait Hah, this is where my name goes right? |
