Check this out

So the United Nations is doing this thing where fore every vocabulary word you guess right they donate 20 grains of rice to needy families. If you're ever bored, or just want to help, you can sharpen your mind while feeding a lot of people.

Please check it out.

Anyways, I've gotten about 20,000 grains donated so far over the past day. My high level is 41, but I generally keep it around 28-32.

Seems incredibly easy to cheat at, but it's cheating for the right reasons, so why not!

Someone on my WoW Guilds forums linked this, and I found it to be easy and boring. Some people got to level 45 though, which was surprising.

Not necessarily. Its pretty easy to have a dictionary available to find the definitions.

Still, I did this for a while - donated my 25K grains of rice. Learned some new words too! Sweet!

wait a sec though... whoever is doing this, why don't they just donate all the rice they got, right now? why do people have to do vocab stuff in order for someone else to give rice? i mean, its not like the participants are paying anything, so why doesn't whoever this is just donate all they want right away instead of messing around?

It's pretty difficult for someone who isn't a native speaker of English. Most of the words weren't even in my dictionary. Though you can easily guess most of the meanings from Latin.

Seems like I'll have some fun with it.

Deja Vu, I've seen this before, on the Battle for Wesnoth forums. A subject that was touched upon is how much the donated rice actually adds up to. Ten grains of rice must really only be worht a miniscule fraction of a penny and it was said that 3k might only barely make a single bowl. It's better then no rice certainly but it does diminish the accomplishment of several hour's work.

I find the website design commendable to the cause though. Checking the FAQ will show that every time you click on a word, money from the advertising is earned and used to buy the rice. A rather creative method of generating cash, I'd say.

At any rate, I tend to fall between 29-34 as far as levels go. If I'm at the upper end of that spectrum however, that's because I'm rather good at guessing which word is correct based upon the structure. First time I played I earned approximately 3k rice... let's see how far I can go tonight.
