o/ Hello all. I'm new here, which I figure goes without saying, and I need a tad bit of help with the Final Fanasy VII PC version of the game.

I'm stuck at Cosmo Canyon when Bugenhagen (sp?) first forces you through many FMV sequences on disc 1. Well, I've scoured the web and tried a lot of the fixes that many people have suggested, but I got no where.

Now, this leads me to my point. I was wondering if anyone on here has a save game file for right after that part of the game. I have just downloaded a save file editor that would, in theory, let me edit your save file to be exactly as mine is now, just after the crash-tacular FMV fest. So if any one at all has anything of the like, I'd be much abliged.

Hell, I'll even take after the whole Gi Cave thing if I absolutely have to.

Thanks in advance for even reading this.

That page is the reason I wound up on this site, googling stuff.

But anywho, I was kinda hoping for something not so far away, but I'll definately use it if I can't find anything. Thanks.

Okay. Where to begin...

I'm running Vista Premium on a 3 month old laptop, so my stuff is obviously gonna freak with the game a tad. I scoured the internet for a week or so, and up until this point, the game has run swimmingly.

I've installed the v1.2 patch, a few others that help with crashes (ie. the chocobo patch and the battle swirl patch) as well as a couple of misc. patches, such as Break Damage Limit. biggrin.gif

So, long story short, I've played all the way to Cosmo Canyon, and I've run across the problems, and I couldn't find a single thing through search engines that worked for my problem. I found a lot of stuff that worked for other people, but everything I tried had no effect what-so-ever.

So, the whole searching for save game files led me here, and I decided to bring up my story to this forum.

And, as far as the stat editor's go, I will be using JENOVA to set my characters and items and such to be EXACTLY the way they were where I left off.

Thanks

You can't legally get it for free. That's the only answer there is as far as the board rules are concerned.

Frankly, as Free2shred00 is finding out, it's such a pain to get working fully on a modern system that you're probably better emulating the PlayStation version, if you can live with the slightly worse translation and graphics (which you also can't legally get for free, but the original PSX disc can be used in a PC drive if you can find it).

As for saves: if you'd asked me in 2000 or so, I had rafts of PC savegames from my first run that probably would've covered it, but I'm afraid they've been lost to time.

What I have found is a couple of European PSX saves around that time. I've uploaded them here in a single memcard:
http://tiddles.cavesofnarshe.com/ff7_cosmo_canyon_saves.zip
I suggest picking up PSXMemTool which should be able to convert them to PC format, in theory. It also has a region converter. I have no idea whether you need to change the region before converting to PC, or after, or whether it matters at all, but some permutation should get them to work (and I'm sure there are other converters too if all else fails).

The first save on the card is before the planetarium FMV sequences; the second is after. If you can't get the PC version going at all, then you could always kick off on the PSX version from the first save (or just view it some day to see the sequence you missed).

Hope that's of some use.

Awesome. Thanks a lot. I hope I can get one of these to work for me.

And I've already beaten the game more that a handful of times, so I know exactly what I'm missing. Which is to say, not much. biggrin.gif
