i'm referring to FFX , the first one, not FFX-2. just to make things clear

still new to this stuff anyways...

1. is there limit for maximum number of S.level you can get? or can you get unlimited? oO
(it seems like AP requirements for next Sphere level increase, but i dunno, i never tested)

2. how long does it take to beat the game? (assuming you did all the sidequests relatively fast, and didn't spend extra time trying to master sphere grid).

what's been bothering me is the sphere system. it seems like once i pass an empty node or stats node i wouldn't be able to active it (unless I come back to it which requires S.levels or use somekinda teleport sphere i guess?). I hear you can remove nodes that add little bit of stats (like +1,+2str) and put better nodes instead (+4 str) and even add nodes on an empty node.
(if i got any of these wrong lemme know )

So far I haven't spend any S.lvls ever since i started the game. Even if I waste some S.lvls now, would I still be able to make full use of the grid system?
It's not that i wanna play a perfect game (hell no, not in FFX sleep.gif ). I jus don wanna do stuff that would perminently keep me from getting something in the future.

Got tips?

I don't think you can stop gaining levels. Even if you make rounds all the way through the grid, you can keep going to fill spots that you've missed. And trust me, unless you run into some gates early on, you shouldn't miss anything huge by passing over it.

I beat the game without using a guide in about 30 hours. I didn't do any sidequests except for a *tiny* bit of blitzball and monster hunting for the colosseum, and I didn't get any Celestial Weapons. But I wasn't rushing either, so for someone else it could easily be faster.

You can stop gaining levels if you have so many unspent sphere levels that it won't let you have anymore. I ran into this while leveling a la Don Tonberry. But as soon as you stop being lazy and spend the sphere levels, you start gaining levels again. Just don't let them all stack up, or you'll waste a little experience. It's not game breaking, though--just a little annoying when you realize you wasted your time.

I don't have a good idea of how long it would take you to beat the game. Sorry. I do everything obsessively and level a lot and waste tons of time. My best save has over 250 hours on it.

You definitely don't need to worry about 'perfecting' the sphere grid. You'll be able to whoop the final boss easily if you play normally, and the rewards you get from the Monster Arena will help you level up enough to beat the Monster Arena.

My advice would be to just progress through the sphere grid as you gain levels. If you're out of ability spheres or something, I'd wait around to clear all of the available nodes, but don't worry about not having key spheres or passing blank spaces. You'll have ample time to go back and fill that stuff in later, and you probably won't want to change a character's path until they've finished their primary.

Seriously, don't worry about the sphere grid. smile.gif Don't bother to hoard the items that add spaces, etc., either--the Monster Arena makes it relatively easy to get plenty of those, anyway. Just enjoy it until you get to the point where you want to go crazy with leveling, and then do it by completing the Monster Arena (which is the only reason you really have to level, anyway). You'll be fine just doing what comes naturally.

I have a few FFX questions of my own I'll put in here;

I'm playing the International version of the game and I am trying to get Anima BUT I have to go and revisit a couple of temples where I didn't do the destruction sphere part of the clositer trials.. However there are now dark aeons guarding each temple so I cant get in to do the cloister!! Is there another way to get in? Or will I pretty much just have to wait until I'm strong enough to take on the dark aeons?

Secondly, How do I gain access to the area where u fight Omega? I have the airship.

Lastly, is there any items which boost the amount of AP gained after battle, and how can i obtain this?

Thanks!

For the original poster, after reaching Sphere Level 101 the AP required to gain an additional sphere level is capped. Thus, the cost in AP to go from 102 to 103 is the same as going from 202 to 203.

Going "backwards" through the sphere grid costs 1/4 of a sphere level (rounded up), so feel free to skip over empty nodes. In fact, there's so many empty nodes, you won't even think about filling them up until close to the end of the game. Throughout the game however you'll find spheres to use though, and they're quite helpful.

You'll have to wait and defeat the dark aeons. They're only guarding two temples however.

When you speak to Cid on the airship, choose to "search" and check out the islands on the eastern side of the map.

All celestial weapons boost AP. Do some hunting online and you'll find scores of guides telling you how to obtain them. You won't be able to get Yuna's right now, and possibly Tidus' too. The rest should be okay. Otherwise, customize Double AP, Triple AP (does not stack with Double AP), and/or Overdrive->AP on your weapons. You'll need:

Double AP: 20 Megalixers
Triple AP: 50 Wings of Discovery
Overdrive -> AP: 10 Doors to Tomorrow

in addition, he's waiting in the very very back of the cave, and there are many monsters in there that can ruin any trip. plus, the map expands as you explore, so you might want to just feel around in there for a while first.

for me, it took 40 hours. that's with taking my time, necessary training for bosses, getting a couple celestrial weapons, and playing several hours of blitzball. with a guide.

BTW, if you do want a quick way to jack up your sphere grid, check out the cactuar desert. (part of the sidequest for rikku's godhand). as long as you save up your overdrives/have quick attackers in the party.

thanks for replies, i already have tidus' celestial weapon, currently blocked from getting Yunas cos of a Dark Aeon though thumbdown.gif

So.. I'm now working on Auron's weapon (no pun intended) and im confused already.

I need to get 10 monsters of 10 different species in 10 diferent areas amongst other things, right? Some guides i've read online contradict each other rolleyes.gif

I was in omega ruins and 'caught' an adamantoise (the turtle thing) and its not in the monster arena.. so the monster arena is only looking for 10 specific monsters in each area? Man this is confusing.

Anyone have a handy online guide to the monster arena?

Oh and also.. Edit: When i looked at areas in the Monster Arena, some of them dont even 10 monsters available, usually between 6-8 free slots.

??? !!!!!

Well, you need to unlock 10 special battles in the monster arena to get the Mars Sigil. To unlock a special battle, you need to either hunt down one of each monster from a particular area OR hunt down all the monsters within a particular species. Basically, just try to defeat at least one of as many different monsters as you can with the special hunting weapons. You'll get the idea. Auron's Sigil is probably the easiest one to get, so no excuses!

You can only have 99 at a time. AP requirements do indeed increase with each successive sphere level, but I think when it gets to 25,000 AP it stays constant.

You should always activate nodes before you move on. If you're out of Power, Speed, Mana, or Ability Spheres, use their respective Distillers to make enemies drop them. When you unlock Ultima Buster in the monster arena, you will have the opportunity to buy Clear Spheres from the trainer. They are expensive. Certain "Species Conquest" monsters drop the purple attribute spheres that you can use on empty nodes. All the purple spheres increase an attribute by 4 smile.gif

At that point, you have to be strong enough to beat the Dark Aeons before you can get Anima. Only two temples are guarded by Dark Aeons - Dark Valefor guards Besaid Temple (and the whole town, actually) and Dark Shiva guards Macalania Temple. They are probably the two weakest Dark Aeons.

The winged eyeball under the Species Conquest in the monster arena drops weapons with Triple AP. Sometimes they have 2 more empty slots, which makes them perfect for adding Overdrive -> AP and Triple Overdrive smile.gif

back! dry.gif

Ok so the monster Arena is still really confusing me, the other day i caught 10 of each monster in the mi'ihan highroad, which unlocked a monster called 'Kattos' under the Area Conquest tab, so anyway i go and do some other stuff and come back to the Monster Arena and hes no longer there?!?! It just says 'unknown' where his name should be thumbdown.gif

!!?????!!

I got another question regarding on Al Bhed primer.

I just had to start over because I currently don't have my file (weee)

and I was using Al Bhed sphere from the ruins and I'm assuming I got some of the translations done by my friend's file.
Later, when I was on the crane-like ship where there is supposed to be Al Bhed Primer vol.1, I didn't see anything there.

Does anyone know if I use Al Bhed sphere thingy, the items that I don need dissapear automatically? (so if I loaded on friend's file who picked up vol 1,3,5, and only volumes I would see in my game is 2 and 4?

from my experience (two playthroughs on different memory cards) that's what happens. whatever primers have been found by any other file on the same memory card will be unlocked and un-findable in your game.
