Well, after watching the Final Fantasy Retrospective, I wanted to play through the main part of the series (sort of) again. So, I decided to do it here. I'll be playing through on the original versions of the games. I'll also do perfect games of them (at least, as much as possible). If there's anything that'll make me lose interest in this, it'll be that. Anyway, the order I'll be going through, even though it's mostly pretty obvious:

1: Mystic Quest (to warm up)
2: Final Fantasy
3. Final Fantasy II
4. Final Fantasy III
5. Final Fantasy IV
6. Final Fantasy V
7. Final Fantasy VI
8. Final Fantasy VII
9. Final Fantasy VIII
10. Final Fantasy IX
11. Final Fantasy X
12. Final Fantasy X-2
13. Final Fantasy Tactics (to replace XI)
14. Final Fantasy XII

So... yeah. Who's betting I'll give up on the perfect game part halfway through Final Fantasy II? Anyway, now to begin...

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest

First of all, I'll say that I can't think of anything missable in this game. If I'm wrong on this, please tell me before I get too far.

Anyway, I name the hero "Bob." 'Cause that's what I always do. At the Hill of Destiny, I jump across the gap and fight the Behemoth. I manage to win on my first try.

I love how helpful the Old Man is. The fate of the world depends on me saving the crystals, and he can't even give me a hint on where they are.

...And random people in Foresta know that I'm the Legendary Hero. I wonder why I never noticed this stuff before?

Picked up Cure and a bunch of Potions, then got Kaeli.

Went to the Level Forest and slaughtered everything. I checked to make sure that level ups all result in the same stat growths. That seems to be the case, but if there is some randomness, I'd appreciate it if someone told me before I get too far.

I love the boss music in this game.

Went after the Battlefield, and easily cleared it. Got Tristam (love his music), then cleared out the next Battlefield for the Charm.

...Yeah, this game is easy.

I did that about a couple of months back when I was forced to take some holiday from work (or lose it to the system!)

Half way through FFII I lost focus and found it really hard to pick it up again!

i did that this summer sans ff mystic quest. i did speed runs, and one day is about 5-7 hours of me playing, before i would get bored and play resistance. no more than 3 days allotted for I - V (I- 1 1/2, II - 2 (i gave up for a bit), III - 3 oddly enough, IV - 2 and 1 hour, V - 1 and 9 hours. VI - VIII, 2 days each. IX took 3, X took 3 and a half, X-2 was 1 and 2/3 (i almost lost the will to live during chapter 5 when i was slaughtered by the aeons, had to train a bit for it, i was a new game, so i didnt have cat nip or iron duke, or anything like that.) tactics took 1 1/2, xii took 3 flat. it was really tedious, and i didnt nkow what to do after that, so i just went back to resistance

Good luck.

Probably should have replaced Mystic Quest with Draqon Quest. It would have been harder, but more relevant.

I wouldn't make it very far myself. In fact, the furthest I could possibly go would be VII, since I can't play FFVIII. Shame, because I should go replay 9 and 10 someday...

I'm doing nearly the exact same thing... in order. I'm playing slow for 100% on all of them and so I don't get bored. All of the main series, spin offs, both Tactics (advance and PSP) and all three Kingdom Hearts.
You said dastarb you might be thinking. But I am playing slow so...

Just wondering, would you consider doing your playthroughs in a series of "Let's Play" videos on Youtube?

The "Let's Play" videos on Youtube are videorecordings of people playing various games from start to finish (except possibly some boring parts, such as collecting enough coins to do something) and recording all of it in segments, most importantly along with their vocal commentary as they play.

Here is an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEn5huyUcsg (just search Youtube for "let's play" to find a whole bunch of them.)

You can easily get the programs you need to make a Let's Play as freeware, if I recall correctly. (I just haven't recorded one myself, but I've played around with it a bit.)

I could do it... except for 5 and 2 would really irritate me. So would 12.

I might just do that for each boss battle. Most youtube videos are so clear, how is this possible?
