First: beautiful trailer, but I hope the gameplay stays like it was in SFIII:TS or SFA3.
Second: this might be 3D, which, due to SF:EX makes me worry. Simply because EX sucked. Third: What Lasz said. We need some people back (Like Guile and Blanka) and some need to stay in the story (Twelve, Necro, Q). I wouldn't mind some people from SFA3 making a comeback either (Cody out of jail legally? Adult Sakura? Adult Karin? Somebody handling like Gen?), and since laughs are always good, I'd also welcome an appearance by Dan Hibiki. <bias>Also, that trailer is wrong: Ken would so kick Ryu's butt</bias> Edit Also, on a side note, CAPCOM is making an HD remake of Street Fighter 2 (can't remember which iteration exactly though ^^; ) This post has been edited by SilverMaduin on 17th October 2007 19:18 -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. The new art's being drawn by comic artists from UDON, who are amazing professional fanartists of sorts. And dude, Gen already has a new version - Yun and Yang are supposed to be variations of Mantis and Crane, aren't they? Oh well, it's been *ages* since I've played as Gen. -------------------- |

I suppose it's about time, but man, I don't know if I have it in me to learn another fighting game. I barely got anywhere with 3rd Strike. Maybe if the game stays sprite-based and, yes, Necro (I LOVE Necro in 3rd Strike) makes it in somehow, then I might be willing to give it a try.

NO.
FREAKING. WAY. First of all, I'd like to say that was an amazing trailer. The concept was excellent and it was stylistically awesome, although the facial models were kind of terrible. I had hung up the hopes of ever seeing another Street Fighter in my gaming lifetime a while ago. This has single-handedly made my day. Hopefully it will be for some consoles that are accessible to me! Although the cast of Third Strike were certainly more interesting design-wise, I'd have to say that the original crew takes the cake. I miss Blanka, Sagat, Bison, Guile, etc. so dearly, and I would have LOVED to see them run on the near-flawless and beautiful Third Strike engine. I wouldn't mind some of the Alpha cast to be there too. More than anything, I'd like to see some Yun/Yang in the mix and some good ol' Dan Hibiki comic relief. But ew, why would you ever want Twelve, Necro, or Q in the game? Well, Necro is passable and Q has a pretty intriguing character design, but Twelve? Possibly the worst SF character ever, if not in all of Capcom. ALL THAT ASIDE. I'm so pumped for this game. I was going to pick up the latest Guilty Gear to feed my fighting game hunger, and now I have something even better to look forward to. Here's hoping Capcom isn't completely retarded and keeps it in the second D. That looks amazing, I really hope it doesn't suck like EX did. Do you know what console it will be on?.

I'd better still be able to cheese with Lightning Kick, or things will be unfortunate for Capcom.

I've only ever played the original Street Fighter at arcades and I had Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES and that was it. It'd be cool to get back in touch with this series. Thanks for the link, Laszlow.

New Street Fighter info.
New gameplay systems? Does anyone know what a gameplay system is? Sounds to me like a new game. I'm glad they're keeping the platform perspective. Not just the Lightening Kick, but E.Honda rapid-tap arm battles and flying headbutt duels have to be available too. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. For example SFA's system featured a three-stage power bar and Alpha counters, while SF3's system had parrying and let you choose your Super Art. I am psyched for this game considering I have never big a really big fan of the Street Fighter series. I was reading the most recent EGM when I first caught a glimpse of this game. I dunno if it's just me or is Ryu really buff? I know he looks buff in the original Street Fighter games, but now he's HUGE!

Good point. He's buff, but not Gear of War "it's not practical to have arms this big" buff. And now he is. It's the same with Resident Evil 5. Chris has gone from a plausible rusty nail to a gym freak. I prefer playing as someone who isn't inhumanly huge; unless it's because of magic.

Gamespot mini-preview
Same controls, 3D visuals with 2D gameplay, plus Chun-Li, and Dhalsim both return in addition to Ken and Ryu. Note from laszlow: Capcom, *please* bring back Guile. We don't want any more of this Remy nonsense. Also, Dudley. -------------------- |

I also heard that perhaps sometime after Street Fighter IV is released, Capcom is thinking of making a new Darkstalkers game, as well. That should be fun! Or even a new Puzzle Fighter game with Street Fighter IV-quality graphics.

Quote (laszlow @ 20th December 2007 09:21) Note from laszlow: Capcom, *please* bring back Guile. Nah. Then again, as much as I may have played SFII Champion Edition and even more Super SFII, I never really became attached to the cast of that series, so I don't get Dhalsim, either. In fact, I grew much more attached to the cast of SFIII (including Akuma and Chun Li), but even so, I wouldn't have had a problem if Capcom came up with a whole new cast for IV, too (outside of Ken and Ryu, of course). You see, I'm almost the opposite. I grew up on Super 2, Super Turbo, and the Alpha series (Alpha 3 remains, to this day, my favorite Street Fighter game). I actually held off playing SF3 for a long time because I *hated* a lot of the new characters. In the past 2-3 years I've played a fair amount of TS and have grown to like it a lot, but not as much as the older ones. Even though I still play as either Ryu, Ken, or Chun Li a good 60% of the time, some of the new characters have grown on me and I'd like to see them back (particularly Dudley; he's a beast). -------------------- |

One more issue comes to mind.
SF3 butchered the music, and it's not the same when I don't get to listen to the right music in a fight (As in, Ryu's, Ken's, Chun li's and Akuma's themes). The new sound just doesn't fit them. I hope the old tunes come back in SF4, or at least that they make something less insulting to my ears. As to the cast problem: as I said before, have some people from each game, some with maybe big gameplay changes, but still the same people (Karin and Sakura), some need to come back from SFII just how they were, like Blanka and Guile (okay, gameplay adjusted ![]() -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. In I, II, and III, the cast of each had been vastly different from one another and I don't see any reason for IV to buck this trend. I know that even I mentioned Necro in an earlier post, but seeing as I fell in love with some of the new characters in III (both design-wise and gameplay-wise), I actually look forward to seeing what new characters in IV pique my interest. It's one thing to introduce new character designs, but it's another thing when they suck (I'm looking at you, Remy, Twelve, Oro, and Sean). And these compilation games are never fully-realized games - they take reused sprites and mixed-around gameplay elements in a minimum-effort, maximum-fanservice amalgam of characters - while stuff like Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are fun games, they used zero original sprites and reeked of low production values. I'd rather see retooled, remastered versions of classic characters (Third Strike Chun Li is a great example) than BS like Sean and Twelve. So yes, I'm not sure if I'm in the minority or the majority, but I both applaud the returns of Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, and Dhalsim and also hope that they give us kickass new characters like Dudley and the twins were for SF3. Half-new, half-old is probably my ideal scenario. -------------------- |

You're getting your wish ![]() Basically, it seems the whole original SFII playable cast is confirmed to be in IV. Honestly, I'm a bit peeved by this, but if the game overall is good, I'll get over it. Plus YouTube seems to have some demo gameplay footage posted. I remain unconvinced that it'll be as smooth as SFIII, but I'll withhold judgment til the game is actually finished and released. -------------------- |

THOSE two are 1) a joke character and 2) a ridiculously unnecessary schoolgirl. They should stay in the Alpha timeline and die in the alpha timeline. But yeah, I was pretty ecstatic when I found out about the original eight returning. This already makes the cast better than half of the garbage in Third Strike. -------------------- |

Hooray for Blanka being there, and since the entire cast from 2 is coming back, hooray for Fei Long. I saw those gameplay videos mentioned earlier and they are beautiful. New character called Abel.
Yes he's got the body mass of a small whale and yes he's got amnesia. I can't really get used to the visuals either. That doesn't mean they're bad though. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |
