I know there's another thread on this subject but not so much specifically. I already beat Ozma and all my characters were over lv.80 including Zidane, Steiner, Vivi, Eiko. Still, I had trouble defeating Ozma. Next time when I start a new game, what should I do to successfully beat Ozma without trouble? I'm putting this in a forum since walkthroughs on other websites only have one way of getting through problems.

Ozma is an optional superboss, so if you don't know immediately who it is, you probably never fought it. As I did not, so unfortunately I'm no help.

I've never even got to Ozma. It's funny, too, 'cuz I beat FFIX a number of times, but I never got far enough in the Chocobo sidequest to get to that optional boss. Unfortunately, I ain't much help either, but I'd think you'd be just fine with your chosen characters' levels.

Those levels are fine, but remember to give all of your characters protection against Dark attacks. Ozma can also use a ****ton of status-affecting attacks, so set up your gems and armor accordingly and buy a bunch of remedies/ethers for Angel Snack and Esuna. I've never had trouble with Ozma, so I imagine those levels ought to be fine. With that party, Thievery, Frog Drop, Shock, and Curaga ought to be your best friends.

Level 80 does give you plenty of HP for the characters, but I'd also suggest trying to get your players all to do high constant-damage attacks going for you. That would be stuff like:

- Thievery (Zidane)
- Frog Drop (Quina)
- Dragon's Crest (Freya)

Those can all do really high damage if you build them up, and will not be affected if you get mini-ed. But they all depend on you doing other things, like stealing a lot for Thievery, killing a lot of dragon-type monsters for Dragon's Crest, and catching a lot of frogs for Frog Drop.

And of course, use Shock, your Eidolons, and high-powered attack spells, and you can always throw things at Ozma. The problem with those is that if you ever get mini-ed, the attack power will REALLY suffer.

Higher-powered offense will be just as important as preparing yourself with proper defenses. As mentioned above, wear lots of magic-evasion/defense boosting stuff, and stuff that will absorb or defend against holy and shadow attacks. Also cram on a lot of your Anti-status abilities (espeically Antibody and Clear-Headed), and auto-regen, auto-life, etc.

I might also suggest equipping yourself with Auto-reflect, and then healing yourself using items and Auto-Regen, rather than spells. Auto-reflect will protect you against Berserk, Mini, Holy, Doomsday, and a lot of other spells that Ozma will throw at you.

In general, I like having at least two people being my dedicated attackers (usually Zidane, Freya, or Steiner, and two being support and attack (usually Dagger, Eiko, or Quina). All players can throw healing items at each other, so I actually almost never wait use my mages for healing, they're almost always attacking.

Good luck!

Giving all characters Auto-Reflect increases the chances of Ozma wiping out the party with Meteor. Ozma is smart and won't use Holy, Flare, or Death on targets that can reflect or absorb them.

Some suggestions for preparing from the start of the game:
- Hoard Phoenix Pinions. Also use Eiko in the battle itself
- Do the friendly monster sidequest.
- Avoid mass leveling until Amarant joins for the first time. The lower a level a character joins at, the more magic stones (and other stats) they can potentially gain. Leveling Marcus is fine though and strengthens Eiko due to a bug.
- When someone is about to gain a level, cram as much Strength, Speed, Magic, and Spirit boosting equipment on that character as possible. This is optional and can be tough on sanity at times, but it does contribute to boosting character stats.

As for preparations for Ozma
- Antibody and Clear-Headed are musts. As stated by others, use Shadow absorbing or nullifying equipment. Bright Eyes generally isn't needed as only Steiner has much reason to be using the Attack command. Might as well shove everyone in the back row as well; Curse is physical damage.
- Having no allies in Reflect status reduces the likelihood of Ozma casting Meteor.
- Have exactly one member who will be hit by Lv5 Death. One KOed character is easier to recover from than Curse.
- Have at least one member who can be hit by Lv4 Holy. Again, better than Curse and can be harmless to a prepared party.
- It's recommended that characters have enough HP to survive Flare Star at full HP. Ozma's Flare Star does target's LV x 50 damage.
- Ozma has hefty defenses so sneaking in a LV3 Def-less from Quina helps out with damage output for characters lacking powerful defense ignoring attacks.

A few hints for the battle itself before I conclude. Doing these will all help reduce the likelihood of Curse
- Have Ozma at 50% or lower HP
- Have no allies in Mini status. (cure Mini as quickly as possible when this happens)
- Inflict Darkness on Ozma. (Give it a try and see what happens; may not be worth the trouble though. May take a few turns before Ozma reacts to it. Soul Blade with The Ogre is the most reliable means of inflicting Darkness)

Is it Jade armlets that suck?

use them on all your characters if you can (unless you have better)

Although defense is sucky; magical defense and magic evade is top notch on these cheap equips! They are pretty much the polar opposite of the N'Kai Armlet

*edit* watch some videos of people doing the Lvl1 Ozma challenge, then you will realize that lvl80 is about 79 levels too high for Ozma wink.gif

Can anyone tell me what kind of being Ozma is? I mean, why does this powerful creature dwell in a harmless place like Chocobo's Air Garden?

Well level 99 would cause less problems.

Just protecting against dark and using frog drop to do 9999 damage helps too.
Also to answer the above question, it's basically a multi coloured, very nasty, high hped beach ball.

In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't.
