I've never really been into opera, or that scene in the game for the matter...

But it sure sounds better than those horrible beeping sounds biggrin.gif

this scene from FFVI has been one of my favorites of all time. it's a very emotional scene, and it is one of the first things i think of when i think final fantasy. however, this is not how i pictured the singing. i expected more of a toned down version, less opera, but still opera influenced.

i like parts of the new lyrics, but not all. what happened to "Love goes away, like night into day"? there were several other lines i missed, so i guess i would prefer a combined versioin.

Though "love goes away, like night into day" is a good turn of phrase, the sentiment conveyed is opposite of the equivalent Japanese line which talks about unfading, eternal love. So I can't say I miss it.

I don't miss anything about the old opera lyrics, really.

The new version is generally superior. What about better quality verse, better use of language, and greater faithfulness to the Japanese lyrics is so terrible to people? The fact that it's different than what they got attached to when they were 12?

I played it when I was 12 too, but I'm pissed that the old opera lyrics were unfaithful and embarrasing instead of being pissed that new lyrics are different.
